Sprint Roadmap: HTC, BlackBerry, LG, Palm, Sanyo on Tap for Summer
A purported "internal Sprint document" is floating around the InterWeb, apparently originating from HowardForums. The image shows Sprint's supposed Q3 '08 New Product roadmap, and is highlighted by the mysterious "MP6950" by HTC, which could be a Touch Dual, Touch Diamond, or even a Touch Pro. The current HTC Touch for Sprint carries the MP6900 model number, so logic would dictate that the 6950 is some sort of successor - I'm guessing Diamond but hoping for Pro. A launch date of September 2 is listed for this one.
Beyond the new HTC, Sprint users can (supposedly) expect these other releases this Summer ... unless this thing is a complete and total hoax ... or it's for real but the launches get pushed back, as often happens:
- July 13: Palm Treo 800W, BlackBerry Curve (Red) -- These could actually be slated for 7/21, it's hard to tell from the image
- July 27: LG Rumor (Blue)
- August 17: MotoRAZR VE20, Sanyo Katana Eclipse (SCP-6750), Two PC Card refreshes
- September 2: HTC MP6950 (as per above), Samsung M220 & M320, Motorola Renegade V950 & i365

Three of the heaviest heavyweights take center stage in part one of this PhoneDog Dogfight. In this corner - the iconic iPhone 3G. In that corner - the "Windows Mobile with a cherry on top" HTC Touch Diamond. And in, uh, that corner - the super-spec'd Samsung Omnia. Whose cuisine will reign supreme? Looking for a great messaging phone to use on the Sprint network? Well, Noah has found one in the LG Rumor. The bar style device come equipped with a slide out QWERTY keyboard that when opened, automatically switches the phone to messaging mode. Other key features include a 1.3 megapixel camera with 2x zoom, media player, and expandable memory card slot. A thread on Sprint Users "confirms" release and pricing info for HTC's Touch Diamond and Touch Pro smartphones on Sprint. To be fair, the thread has images of device hotsheets, so this looks pretty legit. I just like putting words like "confirms" in quotes whenever I can.
Looks like we'll see the Touch Diamond by the middle of this month (that'd be September) at an on-contract/after rebate price of $249.99. Rumors are pointing... Q. Hey Noah - I’m looking for some information on the LG Rumor and Samsung Upstage. I’ve seen the videos and they provided me some information. I would like to know some more information on both phones and I’m curious on how texting works on the Upstage. If you can give me some information on the 2 phones that would be great. Thanks
A. Thanks for the message, and for watching the videos. UpStage is a pretty old model at this... Engadget's got this graphic that's supposedly a slide from an internal Sprint presentation/update, and it details a September launch of the HTC Touch Diamond. The good? Touch Diamond on Sprint, duh. The bad? $299.99 on contract, after $100 rebate. $399.99 and two years out the door? Yikes. I've been testing the Touch Diamond, and it's a solid device and all, but that's crazy expensive given today's US... Have you checked out our first-look video of HTC's Touch Diamond smartphone? Did you ignore it because it's not available through a US Carrier just yet? Well, you might want to take another look as PhoneArena's reporting that both Sprint and Verizon Wireless will be launching branded CDMA versions of the device within the next few months. And, even better, both carriers should also be picking up the HTC Touch Pro - Touch... Yesterday Sprint announced business email access for non-PDA phones. Essentially this means that you can connect to your workplace email from a handful of non-smartphones, so long as your work runs Microsoft Exchange Server or IBM Lotus Notes. The new service debuted today on the Samsung Instinct (you've heard of that one, right?) and will be rolling out in the coming weeks on 11 more, including the Rumor by LG; Katana and Katana II by... Hot off the UPS truck it's the HTC Touch, but in white, and running on Verizon. VZW launched the XV6900 at CTIA, and it's currently available only through the online store (should be in retail outlets April 30). So if you haven't had the chance to check one out yet, don't worry - we got ya covered.
