Test drive: Parrot minikit

Unlike the majority of my family and friends, my car did not come fully equipped with built in hands free Bluetooth compatibility to allow me to talk on my mobile while driving with my hands at 10 and 2. This really wasn't a problem for me until California passed the hands-free law, and now, I can't drive and talk with the phone up to my ear.

I tried getting used to the Bluetooth headset and just couldn't do it.  Although the Samsung WEP420 by Bang & Olufsen fits nicely and was certainly stylish, remembering to charge it and carry it from house to car was not for me.  So, I embarked on a mission to find the perfect car kit. My first victim is the Parrot Minikit Bluetooth car kit.

Perhaps, I should let you know that I have a slight problem with directions – I don't like taking them, and I am not good at reading them. Fortunately, this little guy is very easy to use.  Charge it, pair it with your device, and when a call comes in, it lights up red and green to answer or ignore. Also, lucky for me, the directions are only a page long. Paired successfully!  I make my first call to my mom, who always complains that she can't hear me on my cell phone…crystal clear. No complaints. It was not only very easy to use with great sound quality, but I didn't have to remember to take it inside to charge (you can charge it in your cigarette lighter or AV outlet.

My only complaints are that it's very difficult to hear when it's ringing – which can be a bonus for some, but it was hard to know if I was actually dialing until the person answered. I also hate the visor clip. I wish that they would make one that just plugged into the lighter and clipped down there out of the way. Very, very minor cons. I may have a solution to my problem! Still have a few more to check out – stay tuned.
