Work Support: Sprint Announces Corporate Email for Dumbphones

Noah Kravitz

Yesterday Sprint announced business email access for non-PDA phones.  Essentially this means that you can connect to your workplace email from a handful of non-smartphones, so long as your work runs Microsoft Exchange Server or IBM Lotus Notes. The new service debuted today on the Samsung Instinct (you've heard of that one, right?) and will be rolling out in the coming weeks on 11 more, including the Rumor by LG; Katana and Katana II by Sanyo; and the Motorola RAZR, RAZR 2 and KRZR.

Could you tell I cribbed some of that paragraph from the press release?  It's Friday - I'm feeling lazy.  Basically this should add welcomed functionality for folks who don't really want or need a smartphone but have to keep tabs on that work account.  So, you know, if you're the type who likes to spend Wednesday mornings at the beach with your KRZR instead of at the office with your Treo, this is for you.  Actually, now that I think about it, this makes the Rumor a powerhouse of a cheap little handset so long as you don't need full Web access or mind the small display.

The service will be included in Sprint's Everything plans, and also be available as a $9.99/mo add-on to other plans.  Sprint also offers Mobile Email for non-workplace accounts, don't worry.  Want to learn more?  Click right here,

Thursday, July 10, 2008The instinct cannot view .pdf files. The "No Viewer" error is the Instinct's default error message for any unknown filetype trying to be used on the phone. The only "possible" way would be to wait for people to make software for the phone that can enable it to view such filetypes.

Sunday, June 29, 2008i dont think you can view pdf's. i have successfully downloaded jpg's and transfered music from my itunes, but not pdf's. Although the instinct can do lots of things, it's not a "smart phone" and can't do many computer like things.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008HELP!!! I have the Instinct and really love it.... BUT no one seems to know how and if I can view an attachment to an email, hotmail or work (outlook). i sent myself an email and when i select the attachment it says NO VIEWER save to card? then it saves it supposedly either on the SD card or the actual phone. I can locate the file but there is no option to open and view... PLease HELP!! Sprint says i should be able to see it...You are the best most reliable reviewer so if anyone can figure this out it woudl be you!! (by the way the file was a pdf document)

Better browsing: Samsung Instinct firmware upgrade addresses Web browser

Has anyone out there upgraded their Samsung Instinct to the latest firmware rev.?  I got a few reports that Sprint and Samsung have unleashed a new version that focuses on the Web browser.  Sounds like there might just be a full screen option (mapped to the Voice Command button) as well as general speed and stability improvements.Got an Instinct?  Upgraded it?  Hit the Web and let us know how it is!

Noah Answers Your Questions - LG Rumor or Samsung Upstage?

Q. Hey Noah - I’m looking for some information on the LG Rumor and Samsung Upstage. I’ve seen the videos and they provided me some information. I would like to know some more information on both phones and I’m curious on how texting works on the Upstage. If you can give me some information on the 2 phones that would be great.  Thanks A. Thanks for the message, and for watching the videos.  UpStage is a pretty old model at this...
Instinct: Sprint Releases Individual Application Updates

Instinct: Sprint Releases Individual Application Updates

At long last Sprint's given the go ahead to its vendors to unleash a slew of application updates upon Instinct owners.  A post on Instinct Insight details the release process, and makes it clear that the actual app updates are coming from the third-party software makers and not directly from Sprint.  Sprint basically opened up the floodgates here and its up to the vendors themselves to decide what to release, when, and how (or so says...

Noah Answers Your Questions - T9 on the Instinct?

Q. Noah, you have very informative videos and think that you are great at your job. I have a question about Sprint's Samsung Instinct. I am fairly efficient with a QWERTY keypad, but I am so much faster on a T9 layout. Is the Samsung Instinct capable of a T9 text entry? I noticed in your YouTube video "Sprint Samsung Instinct vs LG Vu vs iPhone - Long Version " that when you entered the number to text (right past the 10:00 mark), the numbers had...

Noah Answers Your Questions - Instinct video feature

Q. Hey Noah, just got a question for you about the Instinct. Sprit mentions on there site that you can see movies on the phone when side loaded in a Micro SD card and I was just wondering what the quality of this feature is and how does it work? A. Thanks for the message.  In one of my Instinct videos I showed a video that was loaded onto a microSD card and played back on the phone.  It works great - if you have a good quality...

Instinct vs iPhone: Noah talks gadgets on WBPM's Electric Morning Show

My interview ran this morning on The Electric Morning Show on WBPM FM of Poughkeepsie, NY.  I talked "Instinct vs iPhone," and generally about cell phones and gadgets with hosts Andre and Jack, and had a blast.  They're good guys and, well, I love to talk (just ask my family), so it was great fun.  Looking forward to doing it again ... and hopefully Gene Hackman was listening and is gonna give me a call any moment now. ...

Instinct to support wifi?

Well, this was a real setback when I was looking on a phone on the sprint network. I thought it would have wifi but later found out it doesn't. Is there any talk about it supporting wifi later on? And if they choose to do so, will it be a hardware update, or could they add wifi just by releasing new firmare? Also what are your experiences on sprints evdorev network? is it fast for internet browsing?...

WiMax: HTC drops super shiny WiMax phone on Russia

    HTC T8290

Might this be a peek into our near-term future?  I hope so.  You're looking at the HTC T8290, a shiny, sleek, badass looking piece of kit from HTC destined for Russia's Yota network. What's neat about this device, besides its obvious good looks, is that it packs both GSM and WiMax connectivity so you can get your voice and high-speed data on in style.  There's a 3.8", 800 x 480 hi-res display for all of that content you'll be...

More on next HTC Android phone

First off, how cool is it that HTC dropped some significant cell phone news on the blogosphere via Twitter the other day?  I'm not saying Twitter itself is/isn't cool, but rather that it's neat to see a tech company innovate when it comes to communicating with the media.  Particularly so a tech company that uses the word "Innovation" in their marketing materials. Second, my post about the possibility of the HTC Touch HD coming to...

Of course, if you do there's text galore to tide you over until those G1s start shipping on the 22nd. So what's kaziko...

Hands-Free: Driving with both earbuds in is NOT okay

    Driving with both earbuds

For the past few weeks I've been considering writing a post about how California's law against driving while holding a cell phone has done pretty much nothing to curb the habit - at least in the Oakland/Berkeley area where I live and work.  Yesterday on my bike ride home from the office I figured out why I hadn't penned the post yet.  The law has done something, I think.  Sure, I still see at least three drivers with cellies in...
