reception good, prices very high

Overall Rating:

Experience: 4 Years
Pros: Good Reception call wise

Cons: High Prices, Rebates take forever, verizon merging with alltel and there will be no more my circle, verizon plans are VERY EXPENSIVE

Summary: I've had alltel for about 4 years now. The reception has always been great for me no matter where I go, and I've only had a few dropped calls.

I recently got a BlackBerry Pearl and would have to say this is when stuff started going downhill. I was told I should get my rebate within a certain time frame and it never came.. I did get an email saying it had been processed and would ship within 15 days and 2 months later I still didnt have it. I contacted their rebate center and the rebate center said it just shipped out like 3 days prior.. so why did I get an email 2 months before saying it was going to ship in 15 days? I waited ANOTHER month and still no rebate.. called the rebate office AGAIN.. and they claimed it NEVER shipped, even though I told them the time I called before, they said it had.. Ridiculous, 4+ months and still no rebate.. I called alltel and complained about the situation and they called the rebate company on 3way and the rebate company sent me another check and I got it within a week.. although I still have never gotten the 'original' one they sent out.

I have my blackberry set up to receive emails from my AIM/AOL account, I will send myself emails some times to remind me of errands I have to do during the day.. and some times it takes about 4+ hours to show up on my phone, ridiculous.

I pay $89(comes out to $110 after all the darn taxes they add on and phone insurance) for 500 anytime minutes, nights and weekends starting at 7pm.. unlimited net, and texts... but compared to other wireless carriers such as Sprint.. you can get unlimited EVERYTHING for $99... so why am I paying $89 for 500 mins when I can get unlimited everything for $10 more with sprint?

I would also like to note that verizon and alltel are currently merging, and once my contract with alltel ends, I'd have to get a verizon contract with a verizon plan.. and I use A LOT of minutes with my circle from alltel.. verizon has nothing like this.. so I'd be using a lot of anytime minutes and my monthly bill would be about $150 a month.. BEFORE TAXES!!! What the crap... no thanks! bye bye alltel/verizon

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE IN OMAHA, NE

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5

From: Omaha, NE (United States)
Experience: 8 Months
Pros: My Circle, Blackberry data service, excellent customer service, coverage area, wireless card for laptop works in and out of town.....

Cons: Being bought out by Verizon.

Summary: 8 months ago I was about to take advantage of my 15 day trial period becuase I wasn't satisfied with the calls I had lost, the lack of internet I was getting and misleading info. However, I changed my mind when they bent over backwards to save me. They found that I was on the wrong plan, upgraded me to a Blackberry Pearl with NO extra charge, credited my bill back A LOT and spent an hour+ teaching me how to use the phone. I have been 100% satisfied ever since. I go out of town every other weekend and my cell and my laptop have excellent coverage everywhere I go. Last summer I went to the Sturgis Bike Rally in SD and heard other bikers complaining about lack of cell service, but my Alltel was working fine. Love my phone, my wireless card and the network. Other people complain of rebate problems, but I got mine back in about eight weeks. So far all is awesome!

Atllel can be a hassle, but there is a good side!

Pros: Great plans,ok service, price is reasonable.

Cons: Can't get A Smartphone without a certain plan, they charge a lot of taxes, customer service can be pretty good, but can be a pain.

Summary: I have been with alltel for two years and when I first got my phone they were charging me twice for the same number. I guess someone else had my number when I first got the phone. They thought I was going to pay for both, but after about two months everything was straightened out. There are no stores in Atlanta,GA area and you have to drive a hour to get to an actual store which is in Newnan. However what I love about Alltel is their my cirlce whoever thought of this certainly gets my vote. I also hate the fact that Veriozon Wireless has bought them out. This really sucks..but they have given the opp to keep our plans...

Wouldn't recommend Alltel to "Satan" himself!

Pros: I'm back with At&T? Only pro I can think of.

Cons: Customer Service, Unavailable phone feature options, dropped calls, lack of knowledgable employees...

Summary: I thought that since my daughter had Alltel and my AT&T contract was up that I would try Alltel. What a mistake! I went online found phones for me, my wife, son and daughter-in-law. I ordered the phones, which turned out to be on back order, which you aren’t told until the next day, so much for next-day shipping. The phones finally arrived when I was out of town on business. After I got home a week later, my son and daughter-in-law inform me that they can’t get reception in their house. I then find out that some of the phone features that led me to pick this particular phone have been disable by Alltel in order to keep me from damaging my phone, like I need them to tell me how to use my phone.

After a week I call Alltel to find out what I needed to do to return the phones and take advantage of the 15 day money back guarantee, I was told; “We are sorry to see you go, but this isn’t the right number to call.” When I asked for the correct number, I was told that she didn’t know the number.

Now that I have cancelled my service, they are fighting me for the “early termination fee”, and since I haven’t paid them while waiting on the require arbitration, they decided that, “hey we have his credit card number on file…” they charged my card $1000, early without my permission. Early termination fees are $200 X 4 phones for $800, I guess they need the extra $200 for handling charges? I have filed a fraud charge against them for unauthorized use of my credit card.

Bottom line, Alltel is under-handed and does not stand-up to their obligations. Don’t use Alltel, as bad all cell phone companies are, Alltel is sucking the scum from the bottom of the pond.

Alltel's lies

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Brent Loehr on Sunday, December 28, 2008
From: Omaha, NE (United States)
Experience: 8 Years
Pros: recently: None. Two years ago I had excellent customer service and never dropped a call

Cons: False information, terrible customer service, lack of resolution ability, lack of product knowledge

Summary: Recently, my wife's service through qwest ended so we decided to add her to my service at Alltel. We went through a kiosk at the mall and we were looking at upgrading to smart phones. When asking about our options, the representative told us the Moto-Q had an excellent battery life and with the plan we were signing up for we would Both have unlimited Text,Data plan, and internet. I opted for the curve and my wife went with the Moto-Q. This is when all the problems started. It took me almost 7 mo to get the rebates back. Every time I spoke with them they would give me a different excuse: you didn't submit the forms- then when I explained that they had already processed my wifes rebate & both rebates were submitted together in the same envelope with all the required documentation, they told me I submitted the wrong forms. After going back and forth for almost two mo. they told me they would just give it to me because I'd been with them for almost 5 years, of course never admitting they were in error for not processing the rebate to begin with.

After having the Moto-Q we've realized that we were mislead with this phone as well. The battery dies after a full charge in about 3-4 hours with minimal use. We were lied to about our service.

We were told that we would have unlimited text, data, and internet for Both phones. However, my wife's internet has not been working for almost 3 months now. When she first inquired at the Kiosk where we got the phones from, she was told someone within the company had disconnected the service but they couldn't tell her why. She was instructed to call Alltel which she did, and the gentleman she spoke with there told her he didn't know why it was shut off either but that he would have it turned back on. Today, we contacted them yet again because her internet is still not working and we were told that our plan didn't cover internet usage on both phones and we would need to pay an additional $20 a month to gain her access to the internet. This is rediculous because we were told we would have unlimited internet when we signed up for the plan which is why we opted for the smart phones to begin with. This would be comparable to purchasing internet through your cable company, paying the additional fees every month, just to find out after you've paid the fees that your internet has been shut off because your plan that you purchased doesn't cover the internet!!

I was a loyal alltel customer for over 8 years now but am sadly dissappointed in there customer service and mis-information. Buyer Be Ware doesn't quite cover it anymore. They refuse to do anything to resolve the issues we are having and rather than try to help, they want us to pay more! Do not go through Alltel, they will mislead you in every aspect while purchasing their products then refuse to take responsiblity for their mistakes. They had the nerve to tell us it was our fault for buying the products and services from the Kios

Pros: Everything! Good prices, My Circle, Customer Service.

Cons: Cambridge, Ohio store. :(

Summary: I absolutely LOVE Alltel. I ALWAYS have service. Hardly ever drop a call, and if I do, they credit my bill back. Customer Service is great, and from the U.S.!! I can understand them and they are willing to do ANYTHING to help! I can change my plan ANYTIME without extending my contract! THATS AMAZING! I have been to several stores and they are so GREAT! Even an agent I always go to. I think its Russell Cellular in Heath, Ohio. They are the largest agent in the U.S. so they are almost like corp. They have all the new phones at reasonable prices and sometimes have older phones where you MAKE money after the rebate!!! SO COOL!!!!

Early Termination Fee?

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Tim Flagler on Saturday, December 06, 2008
From: Fayetteville, NC (United States)
Experience: 6 Months
Pros: Was good before they defrauded me.

Cons: Might take your money.

Summary: Had two year contract with $500 deposit, six months into it I deployed to Iraq and placed my account on hold and paid last bill. In Kuwait I got online and checked the account and everything looked good.

Six months into deployment I get letter from Alltel saying my account has been closed and I have a bill for -220~.

I inquire and am told I was charged $45 in December when I placed my account on hold end of September. Then because I didn't pay a bill I wasn't aware of in a month it should have been on hold they canceled my account and deducted a early termination fee from my deposit in addition to what I can only determin is a error billing.

The kicker is that when I attempted to resolve the issue I was seemingly talking to outsoursed employees in India with little English knowledge. They went arround my questions and didn't acknowlege my logic on how it didn't make sense for me to be billed months after placing account on hold.

They informed me they would send me a refund as it was listed as a credit with their company. Obviously getting half of my deposit is not acceptable..but after nearly a year since receiving my account closure notice I still have not received any of my money. AS it stands now I have been defrauded out of my entire deposit.

Horrible!!!!!!

From: Cape Coral, FL (United States)

Pros: My Circle..I guess

Cons: The worst customer service I've ever experienced with a provider.

Summary: Alltel is just horrible, plain and simple. They have all these commercials on TV comparing them to the other wireless giants, but I would take T-Mobile over them any day. My boyfriend got 2 phones-one for me, one for him. Because he was the one who went to the store and purchased the phones, the account was put in his name. Since I pay the bills for the household, he wanted me to be an authorized user on the account so that I could call and find out whatever I needed to. They ALWAYS tell me they can't talk to me without him being present, even though he has repeatedly told them to tell me anything I want to know about the account I pay the bill on. In addition, they charge you for things they claim they have blocked. We have told them repeatedly to block text messaging on our phones, yet we still get charged almost every other month for unwanted text messages. My boyfriend tried to get some old games removed from his phone at the store so we wouldn't keep getting billed for those, and the CSR told us that he couldn't remove the games because the phone was "severely water damaged". The phone works perfectly-he can make and receive calls and there is no static, nor are their physical flaws on the handset--so you tell me how there is water damage? They are just not Customer Service oriented at all--they think their customers are idiots and they talk down to them as such. My circle is a nice feature but T-Mobile has that now too and I was much happier when I had their service..the only reason we tried Alltel is because my parents had had them for awhile and seemed please. I think that's because my parents don't use any features and only use their phones in emergencies. If you are a major cell phone user and know you will have to deal with customer service, I don't recommend Alltel to anybody.

Awesome Service

Pros: Awesome Customer Service. I rarely have to call up the CS, but when I do, they are always willing to work with me. I have been with Alltel since 2005, and it is 200% better than T-Mobile. Since I live in a small town, it's hard to get good cell phone service, but it's absolutely perfect here and all the way to where I go. My father is a truck driver & says theres barely anywhere that the service is zero bars. Their prices are also a good deal, and they will always let you know of promotions.

Cons: Alltel stores are not conveiniently located! I have to drive an hour one-way to get to an actual store--if you have problems and are required to go to a STORE, NOT AN AGENT, it's a hassle! Also, the agents usually have old phones even after they have been discontinued.

Summary: I won't ever change to a different provider unless they let their service go down the drain. I'm happy with my service & after my (new) 2 year contract was done on Oct 26, I got to get a brand new phone at the "new-customer" promo price. They really take care of their customers.

Pros: Reliable service, great pricing, great coverage, love My Circle, awesome customer service on the phone, love the online access to billing.

Cons: Poor choice of phones sometimes. Retail stores sometimes have incompetent employees.

Summary: I have been with Alltel since 2001 and have had no issues with them. I do not plan on changing my cell service ever, unless things drastically change. I have always had a great experience with customer service on the phone. Some retail stores have horrible employees, but I just avoid the ones that I have found are like that and deal with most of my issues on the phone. I love Alltel Online access. It is great.
