Danger News
Just two days after I returned "Tony Hawk's Proving Ground" to GameStop because I couldn't do manuals with the Wii remote, T-Mobile showed me how lame I really am by throwing the new Sidekick LX Tony Hawk Edition in my face. The TH Edition will add video recording, Bluetooth file transfer, and stereo Bluetooth functionality to the current LX's feature set. Lucky for you LX owners, all of the new goodies will be coming to standard edition Sidekick LXs via an over the air update... Having trouble with that hostile takeover bid for Yahoo!? Don't worry, go buy a handset innovator in the meantime! Microsoft announced that they have acquired Danger, Inc., provider of software and services powering many a mobile device including T-Mobile's popular Sidekick family of handsets. One can only imagine that a Windows Mobile Sidekick will soon be in the offing, and maybe WinMob will be getting the "cool teen" treatment as well.
Meantime, Starbucks dropped something of a... With all of the Sidekicks you see all over the place, you'd think that Sidekick maker Danger, Inc. would be rolling in money, right? Nope. Apparently they're $7 million or so in the hole after reporting $28 million in net losses for the fiscal year ending this past Sept. 30. While that sounds like a giant loss, it's actually not atypical for a large startup that's been relying mainly on private funding.
So Danger has said they're going to pursue an initial public offering... T-Mobile is now making it even easier to access your Myspace account by introducing a new app that enable Sidekick users to fully customize the user interface and get real time updates. Basically users will now be able to edit their profiles, optimize photos (add or remove), receive new friends request and messaging notifications along with the ability to read, reply to or post comments.
Unfortunately they are going to do a multi-week roll out so you may have to wait until October to... Always-On MySpace Mobile Platform Enables Real-Time Updates and a Custom User Interface for the T-Mobile Sidekick
BELLEVUE, WASH./ PALO ALTO, CALIF./ LOS ANGELES — September 20th, 2007 — T-Mobile USA, Inc., Danger, Inc., and MySpace, the country's most trafficked Web site, today announced a highly integrated MySpace Mobile experience for the T-Mobile® Sidekick®. The announcement marks the first partnership between MySpace with T-Mobile and Danger.
"Sidekick users are often the... A growing number of reports point to new handhelds coming from Sidekick-maker Danger in the next year. Most likely more than two new models are on tap, both from SK 1/2/3 manufacturer Sharp and Motorola, which means QWERTY-loving consumers may have some interesting choices in the coming months.
The Sidekick 4, Slide, LX, and LE have all been tossed around the Web as possible/probably forthcoming model names, with various renderings and specs accompanying the reports. Check the... IntroductionYou've seen it on TV and in the movies, and you've seen it in the hands of celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. T-Mobile's Sidekick 3 is the favorite gadget of many on-the-go hipster, and with good reason. Built for E-Mail and instant messaging as much as for phone calls, the SK3 is a 21st Century communicator with fun design touches meant to appeal to the young - or young at heart - user. Is the Sidekick 3 a worthy upgrade to the SK II? ...
