Great phone for those on the run*

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5

Pros: *From the Law!

You can get a phone number with any area code, great if you want to say you're from LA (323) or Las Vegas (702)

Cons: If you don't buy more airtime by your due date - even if you have plenty of minutes left - you lose all those minutes AND YOUR NUMBER.

Summary: You will be deactivated for two reasons:
1) Run out of minutes (unable to place or receive calls)
2) Fail to renew by due date even if you have minutes left (phone is disabled and you lose your phone number)

SO just buy airtime regularly, right??? Not so simple. Here's something not advertised on the Net10 site: If you buy too early, you lose days of service. Example: Let's say you buy 30 days, and a week later buy another 30. You get not 60, but only 37!!! This is because your new 30 days starts when purchased.

So you want to renew as late as possible, right?!? Well, here is the GOTCHA. Their website is highly erratic and their CS is hostile, thickly accented and only works business hours. So if you push your luck (trying only to get all the days of airtime you paid for) you risk losing your minutes and your number.

On top of that the service is pronbe to dropouts and of rough quality. I only recommend Net10 to people who need disposable phones: fugitives, spies and people on the Witness Relo Program.

Nice Phone

Overall Rating:
4.3 out of 5
By: Vickie Martin on Friday, October 27, 2006
From: Scottsburg, IN (United States)
Experience: 9 Months
Pros: Ten cents a minute, no matter what. I don't have to worry about overages and roaming charges. Motorola V171 a very nice phone with good sound. Simple plan to use, and for $15 a month, you can't beat it! I get coverage almost everywhere. Great reception, too.

Cons: Phone came with 20 decent ringtones, but I can't download any ringtones but those silly sounding lame ones on the Net10 website. They're too embarrasing to use. Sometimes inside of a store or mall, I'll get NO SERVICE when I try to use it. In most stores, its fine, and its fine at work, so I don't get what causes that. Also have to watch time limit so I don't lose my phone number.

Summary: All in all its a good basic plan for somebody like me who doesn't use a cell phone overly much, and mostly has one for emergencies on the road or something. I'm happy with it, but its just a simple plan that I need where I don't have to worry about a monthly bill.

Net10 Prepaid

Overall Rating:
4.7 out of 5
By: A. Appleman on Wednesday, October 04, 2006
From: Lancaster, KY (United States)
Experience: 7 Months
Pros: Excellent coverage, no roaming charges, ten cents a minute all the time, no unexpected fees.

Cons: Limited on phone style choices, not very many to choose from, and have to choose from their own phones.

Summary: I love Net10. I have everything positive to say about the service, nothing negative. I've never gone without network service, have never seen my phone roam (which there'd be no charge if it did) and the calls are clear... I've had one dropped call in all the time I've been using it. Terrific prepaid service.

Worst Customer Service Ever

Overall Rating:
2 out of 5
By: PETER SPOSATO on Saturday, September 02, 2006
From: HARTWELL, GA (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: great price and good coverage

Cons: horrible customer service, the worst ever!

Summary: When my Net10 Motorola C139 phone reset itself, I tried to get it back up with customer service. They said the only thing that they could do was send me a new phone and that it would take a week. The phone was fine it just needed to be brought back on line and have the minutes reloaded. Nasty, impolite, unhelpful, can't speak english, cant understand english and then said they would send me a new phone overnight...they lied!

Fantastic Deal

Overall Rating:
4.7 out of 5
By: Nathan Erickson on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
From: Milwaukee, WI (United States)
Experience: 70 Days
Pros: I pay $15/month and have more minutes (150) than I really need and the option to add more at the same price whenever needed. No extra surcharges, taxes, ...

Cons: Phone is not fancy but it suits my needs. The only pain is that you need to remember to renew your account or you risk losing your phone number.

Summary: Very happy with the purchase. It's an affordable way to have a cell phone. Includes text messaging, voicemail, and decent coverage.

Buy something else

Overall Rating:
1.7 out of 5
By: Anthony Lagos on Wednesday, April 12, 2006
From: Marion , OH (United States)
Experience: 1 Years
Pros: Prepaid ten cents no matter what. Ease of adding minutes and straight forward charges.

Cons: Horrible tech support. Lots of dropped calls and sevice outages. Blocking of downloads to phone.

Summary: My complaint is their phones are advertised that you can download ringtones etc. Their service blocks it although the phones are capable of it. THEY ADVERTISE IT! They dont have it available even though they are in almost all areas. They also will send you text messages on your phone saying things like international long distance available and 300 minutes added and deduct minutes from your phone for it. HOW DECEITFUL.We shouldn't have to pay them for their text messages they send you. I am going to unlock my phone and put a new simcard in and go with another service if possible. I would check boost mobile or something else besides net 10 and tracphone when shopping for prepaid providers. You get what you pay for.
