Bad coverage

Overall Rating:
1.7 out of 5
By: mark h on Wednesday, February 14, 2007
From: durham, NC (United States)
Experience: 6 Months
Pros: Cheap

Cons: Dropped calls, and plain no service

Summary: I get really bad service -- as in, don't get calls for hours at a time -- in parts of Chapel Hill. Durham is slightly better. I would avoid it in North Carolina.

Thank God my contract is over!!

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: Mike Nocher on Saturday, February 10, 2007
From: Ladson, SC (United States)
Experience: 6 Years
Pros: Really cheap price.

Cons: EVERYTHING else! Dropped calls, store support, ability to correct any problem.

Summary: I have had Suncom for about six years. In Columbia, SC I never had any problems with dropped calls and reccomended the service to everyone I knew. That was then. I've lived in the Charleston, SC area for three years and lose an average of 4-5 calls per day! My house, exit 205 and mile marker 196 on I-26 are all areas that I can not talk. When I have called customer service, they were nice but not at all helpful. First, the technician tells me that the problem is that I live too far away from the nearest tower and that I must be within two miles of a tower. Then he figures out that I live 1.5 miles form a tower. Oh well. There goes that theory. Then another one tells me that they are aware of the issues on I-26 and that they are "working on it". I guess I expect too much to think that I should be able to use my cell phone on a major interstate near a large metropolitan area. I accumulate between 1900-3700 minutes per month for business and personal reasons. $60.00 is a great price, but I would love to be able to talk without being disconnected. I wil change service this month.

GREAT!!

Overall Rating:
4.7 out of 5
By: Brandon Hillton on Thursday, February 08, 2007
From: rogersville, TN (United States)
Experience: 6 Years
Pros: suncom is cheap. the service picks up generally great around home.

Cons: not for the traveler.. unless you want to pay roaming charges..

Summary: great, cheap. it's only $150 to pay for four lines or service, unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited texting, and unlimited web usage. you also get 300 roaming minutes, which is very useful if you go on a vacation or are the average buisness traveler.

they also offer nation wide service that doesnot roam and picks up mostly everywhere.

customor service is great.
have had for about 6 years now and wouldnt switch.

cheap phones. and they work good too.
but, if something does go wrong with the phone, they ship it back to the manufactuar and they give you a replacement phone while your's is being fixed. all at no charge

its GREAT!! i would recomend it to anyone!!!

SunCom gets it

Overall Rating:
4.7 out of 5
By: James Bunch on Wednesday, January 17, 2007
From: North Charleston, SC (United States)
Experience: 3 Years
Pros: unlimited minutes, great service coverage, and awesome phones

Cons: The store stays crowded and it takes awhile some time to get help.

Summary: I have read some of the reviews written here and find most of them quite amusing. I read someone complained about unlimited minutes not starting before 7. No doubt a sprint rep. Then I read someone else complaining about them not shipping replacement phones. It because you get them at the store. The other good one was cheap phones. Dude you get what you pay for, so go ahead and be cheap and take the free phone.

I love suncom. I would never go back to sprint, verizon or nextel. I have had them all and had a company alltell phone before. I love my Treo and my service and would reccomend suncom to anyone who lives in the southeast and talks alot. They have a nice selection of quality phones and the service is outstanding. There is no such thing as the perfect cell phone company but suncom is pretty close.

Three and a half years with no other phone service

Overall Rating:
4.3 out of 5
By: Robbie Bendell on Thursday, December 28, 2006
From: North Charleston, SC (United States)
Experience: 3 Years
Pros: Great prices, rugged phones, good service, no major problems

Cons: voice mail sometimes comes a little late.

Summary: I have been on my gf's plan for more than 3 years, and we have no other phones in the household. We have had really good service and luck with this plan and carrier. I was added as an auth user on this account years ago, and I have never had to call, because I have never had any problems.

Terrible Coverage and Service

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: Jonathan Judson on Friday, December 22, 2006
From: Fayetteville, NC (United States)
Experience: 4 Years
Pros: Taxes included in bill.

Cons: Cheap phones, bad service.

Summary: I have had Suncom for about 4 years. For the first year I seemed to have almost no problems. Over the last three years I have had nothing but problems. Half of my County gets choppy service and I have had countless dropped calls. I work in a profession that requires me to work all over the county, so half the time I can't use my phone, even though Fayetteville is a major city in North Carolina. I called Suncom about the bad cell phone reception and they gave me some ridiculous explanation as to why they apparently have only one cell phone tower for half of the county. One technical person blamed the terrain (which is flat). Another technical person blamed the lack of towers and said they would be adding new towers at some point. When I got this phone, they advertised that they shared networks with other providers should your phone not reach the Suncom Network....so why do I get no reception when my co-workers on other networks DO GET RECEPTION? I feel like I've been ripped off and will be dropping Suncom as soon as possible. As I sit here right now in my office in the MIDDLE of Fayetteville, my phone says, "Emergency Only". Thanks a lot, Suncom.

By: Daphne Gorham on Monday, December 18, 2006
From: winterville, NC (United States)
Experience: 1 Years
Pros: none

Cons: Do not lose your cell phone claims are the worst to deal with

Summary: I have never heard of a company not shipping out cellphones. The worst customer service the worst plans ever. They don't even offer plans beginning at 7pm no packages with texting. Bottom line do not ever get a service plan with suncom

By: Heather Remy on Thursday, December 14, 2006
From: North Charleston, SC (United States)
Experience: 4 Years
Pros: great reception, few dropped calls, great unlimited plan

Cons: Small coverage area in Southeast only/not a national carrier

Summary: I have been with Suncom over 4 years, and I have been nothing but pleased with them. I love the plan, I have had very few problems. I guess I can't ever move out of the Carolinas, because I NEED my Suncom Unplan

Poor phone quality

Overall Rating:
1.7 out of 5
By: Dennis Farmer on Wednesday, December 13, 2006
From: Raleigh, NC (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: Phones have been of very low quality

Summary: I have 4 phones in the family. SunCom is no help with defective phones. I have had to return two motorola phones to the manufacture a total of three times in the last 14 months and now I have a phone that does not work again after 1 repair and 1 replacement. (V220). I was a previous ATT customer and have not enjoyed the switch. Overall coverage pretty good, but plans not that great.
