SunCom.....not the Phone for the average guy

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: Ryan Clontz on Friday, October 06, 2006
From: greensboro, NC (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: Phone service works well in the city and on most major highways.

Cons: Only offer cheap phones with no/limited support. Coverage off of main highway and citys is non existant. Would recommend Cingular if looking for a GSM band phone.

Summary: Summary is that even though SunCom offers great phone plans and sounds great on paper, it is a phone carrier needing MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR improvement in the the next few years to be able to compete with TMobile and Cingular. I would not recommend this carrier based on the drop call rate which is.....ALL THE TIME.

Suncom Just DOESN"T get it!!!!

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Janet Brower on Monday, September 25, 2006
From: Waxhaw, NC (United States)
Experience: 8 Months
Pros: I like Harry Connick, Jr.
I like that the taxes, fees, etc are included.

Cons: Their customer service is TERRIBLE!!!

Summary: We got switched to Suncom during the AT&T buy-out. We had to switch to their phones (Motorola) even though we had almost brand new phones. Their phones are not good quality. My daughter's screen goes black and drops calls, phone will shut off for no reason, etc. When we called, were told that was Motorola's problem not theirs. Were told to contact Motorola and ship phone to them for repair. If we chose to do this, Suncom would graciously allow us to "rent" a loaner if any were available.
Additonally, Suncom kept calling me telling me they had a plan that would save me money if I would switch to one of theirs from my existing AT&T plan. They neglected to tell me that changing to this plan would start a whole new 2 year agreement. When I discovered this months later, Customer Service said that the representative who helped me stated in her file that I was told this. In essence, they said I was lying and that I had no recourse unless I wanted to break the contract and pay the fee.
I'm just waiting out the rest of my time until I can dump them!

From: hinesville, GA (United States)
Experience: 3 Years
Pros: Prepay calling plans' price is very good

Cons: Rooming fee and area of the roaming fee

Summary: I have had this service for 3 years, and enjoy it because i know each month, what my bill will be. I just do not like that when I go to another location in the state the roaming fee is too costly.

Suncom-worst service Ive experienced in 12 years

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Michelle Gilley on Tuesday, September 05, 2006
From: Elkin, NC (United States)
Experience: 15 Months
Pros: I would love to say something positive, but I honestly cannot think of one good thing.

Cons: Where do I begin? I live 0.6 miles from a tower, and almost NEVER have a signal in my home. I actually have to leave and drive around or walk around outside to find a signal, which of course I lose as soon as I push send. Countless times Ive been on the road and had to stop and use a payphone just to make a call. Ive had a cell phone since '93, and this is by far the worst service Ive ever seen. Doesnt compare to any other company Ive tried.

Summary: I never, ever write reviews, but I hate Suncom enough to write this one. Please dont make the mistake I did. Imagine having a cell phone that you NEVER use, then go to a company who will actually be around in 2 years.

Can't wait for contract to expire!

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: HEATHER HOLDREDGE on Tuesday, August 22, 2006
From: WEAVERVILLE, NC (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: Not a whole lot

Cons: Everything about their service is bad.

Summary: I had to move and moved .2 miles from their tower. I have no reception at my home with a very young infant, so I had to get a landline phone. We had been using our cellphones as primary phones, so we pay nearly a hundred a month for them. I called CS and tried to see if I could lower the bill since I can no longer use the phone as a home phone. Although I have had service with them for 2 and 1/2 years, "There is nothing they can do". They also said that I could not cancel my contract unless I paid $200+ PER PHONELINE. So now I pay $95 a month for a total of about 200 minutes! This is only the latest problem. I have also had to call 7 times to get somebody else's name off the bill. For some reason, there was somebody else's name, along with my own, on my bill. Not to mention we were lied to when we originally signed a Suncom contract. When we called them on it, they said that agent had been fired for misleading several people and yet they would not let us end the contract. There are tons of dropped calls, reception is fine, but go a block and you have none, and forget calling tech support unless you have 45 minutes to wait to REPEATEDLY hear Harry Conick Jr. and the annoying Suncom jingle. I would NEVER recommend Suncom to anybody.

NEVER choose suncom!!

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Amanda on Tuesday, August 02, 2005
From: Asheville, NC (United States)
Experience: 6 Months
Pros: None.

Cons: Everything from customer service to dropped calls is negative with Suncom. If you have questions about your phone the typical answer is "sorry I cannot help you" after a 15 minute automated phone runaround! Dropped calls are very frequent (and 'sorry there is nothing they can do')The phone often gets busy signals where you cannot make or recieve calls.

Summary: I believe that the only way that this company has ANY actual customers is the fact that they charge you $200 if you drop out. I really do not believe that there is much positive about this entire company and it only is only a hassle to deal with the people who are supposed to be "customer service Reps" I would tell anyone who will listen do NOT waste your money!! And do NOT waste your time, just look for anything else.

Stay Away From SunCom

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Sara on Wednesday, June 01, 2005
From: Winston Salem, NC (United States)
Experience: 30 Days
Pros: The phones make excellent paper weights when they aren't working....which is most of the time.

Cons: The worst customer service of any business I have ever had to deal with. The phone selection is very poor and they only offer one phone without a camera. Call reception is the worst I have ever experienced...calls are dropped on a regular basis, whomever you call only hears static, your voice echo's on the line, voicemail notification usually takes 24 hours, and unable to text message.

Summary: Not only has the reception quality been horrible since day 1, but customer service is unwilling to help in any way. You never get the same person on the line twice, and often hold times are around 40 minutes. Everyone tells you something different, but nobody is willing to stand behind anything that is ever said or promised. Repeated calls were made to customer service concerning call quality, however nothing was ever done to improve it. Finally another company told me about the 30 day buyer's remorse period. I called to confirm this policy with customer service and was told I could use this policy to cancel my service without penalty. When transfered to the department that handles service termination, I was told that I had been told wrong and I had only a 15 day period to cancel. Even though I called repeatedly during this period, nobody within the company ever informed me of this policy. They have no idea what they are doing or even what their company policies are....STAY AWAY FROM SUNCOM!!!
