Terrible Service

By: Kimberly Coen on Monday, October 22, 2007
From Palo Alto CA (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: MyFaves option allows unlimited minutes to any five numbers, making it more affordable

Cons: Constant dropped calls, lack of reception, bad customer service, extortionate early termination fees of $200 per line (family plan of four lines = $200 x 4 = $800!)

Summary: I switched from Cingular to T-Mobile to join my boyfriend's plan, thinking it would be a good way to save money. Unfortunately, it was far from worth it. After a few weeks on the plan, my job switched offices within the same city (less than 5 miles away) and I soon found out that my new office had no reception whatsoever. I went for 3 months without being able to make or receive any calls while I was at work before I decided to switch back to Cingular. As a result, we were charged the $200 termination fee. When my boyfriend called to dispute it considering the circumstances, the customer service representatives pretty much did not care and said they'd only waive the fee if the reception was affected at the billing address. This is ridiculous considering these are mobile phones that do not just sit at our house. My boyfriend also had other issues concerning his phone and service, but none of the issues were resolved. Every time he has called customer service, the calls would last at least one hour since he is passed from one incompetent representative to the next that give him the same cookie cutter answer. Even when you get to the "supervisor," they still do not seem to know what they're doing. They attempt to be friendly and personable in order to mask the fact they don't know what they're doing. Although Cingular is costing me double what I would have to pay with T-Mobile, at least I can actually use my phone and expect to receive professional customer service.
