Not what the once were

Overall Rating:
2 out of 5
By: David Meeks on Monday, September 10, 2007
From: Skyline, AL (United States)
Experience: 4 Years
Pros: Good tech support.Helpful service reps when you can get through the menu from hell.

Cons: Dropped calls, dropped calls and more dropped calls.

Summary: Verizon used to be the VERY BEST of the national carriers.Good service,Good signal strenght, good phones.I drive nationwide,so a good connection is important.4 years ago I almost never dropped a call even in remote locations. Now I can't get in a complete conversation, even in the largest cities.Like most big companies they don't care about their customers or the service they provide."The Network,"is not what it once was.

RIDING ON OLD TIMES - NOT TRUE in 2007

Overall Rating:
1.7 out of 5
By: sam gray on Wednesday, September 05, 2007
From: Miami, FL (United States)
Experience: 7 Months
Pros: It's an AVERAGE company with HIGH costs. Advertizing it as "the network'"is great marketing to cover up what is going on. I trusted old news, the CONSUMER REPORT ARTICLE 2005 but it's not accurate in 2007. Every store gave a different explanation to problems, finally one manager in Florida told the truth. Verizon is taking down towers. Result is in some areas no COMMUNICATION FOR MORE THAN A DAY! 288, selection 2 never worked. Pro? Average now, high prices.

Cons: Half and half service, dropped calls even in cities, takes an average of 3 tries to complete a call. Sells MEDIOCRE phones as "excellent yet phone on display is 5 models behind in quality so beware of store info. EX: Poor technology, poor battery, impossible to text at nite, turns dark so can't see letters, promotions exagerated, ie, free pictures but really 25 cents each, etc. etc.Technician called my phone "a piece of junk' - manager eager to exchange it but could not improve the service.Veriz

Summary: Shop around and don't believe the adds.
And don;t believe the Verizon of 2 years ago works in 2007.
The current one is riding on OLD reputation and will be mediocre for 2 or 4 more years - towers being rebuilt.
Shop elsewhere unless it's the only phone you can get and then try pay-as-you-go along with a phone card.
Will cost much less and get better service. Wish I had known. Expensive experience!

Please, I want to come back!

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5
By: Sabrina Lambert on Saturday, September 01, 2007
From: Santa Clara, CA (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: Great Customer Service, Phones, Customer Service, ALWAYS a Clear Signal, Customer Service

Cons: I'll let you know when I come across one

Summary: I seriously regret the day I dropped this service. I thought I'd try to save money by switching companies - my cell phone life has been a living hell ever since! I have tried all of the major providers (Cingular with & without AT&T, Sprint, Nextel, Metro)and hands down, Verizon is by far superior. I won't go into the horrid details, but my word! I can't believe that we, as consumers & end users, are allowing these companies to straight rape, pillage & plunder the way they do. I mean, even my worst dates will offer dinner & a movie. I just threw my "Gettro" phone out the window today on the freeway. I'll be taking this months payment to the first Verizon store I see in the morning. At least I'll have some sanity back in one area of my life!

Pros: Cool Phones

Cons: Insurance, Prices, Coverage

Summary: This insurance is a rip off ... I pay a 50.00 deductible if my phone is lost or stolen and have to call Lockline to SEND me another phone... What the HELL??? Also I feel that when I travel home which is in Adams County/ Jay County line I have no service AT ALL!!! When I go to the store on Coldwater I have to wait at least an hour and that was whenever there was only like 2 other cusotmers there... the store needs more reps!!

One of the best carriers out there

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5
By: antonio Ortega on Wednesday, August 22, 2007
From: Albuquerque, NM (United States)
Experience: 4 Years
Pros: Great service, Great customer service, they make you feel valued..

Summary: I have been with all of the carriers, T mobile, Sprint, Att/cingular(or whatever they are calling themselves) Altel, Cricket. I have had nothing but bad expeirences with them all. T mobile, worst customer service ever, they blame you for everyting and charge you extra charges for everything. 1000 anytime minutes was more like 100 min out of network and you were screwed after that plus if you travel you can rarely get service anywhere other than a city. Sprint was not too bad with service but worst customer service ever. None of them actually seem to be able to speak english. They all read from a script and will keep you running in circles when you are looking for help. All I wanted to do was get my phone to work and it took me 3 hours switching from rep to rep and every time i was transfered the person seemed to know less and less about the problem. Altel was ok not very good service. dropped calls all the time. customer service was ok.. Now for the worst ever...Att/Cingular. Fewest dropped calls my ass..wait wait forget what i said i never dropped a call but that was because i could never make a call. Every time i would try to dial out i would get that stupid message all circuits are busy please try again later..lets just hope i'm not being murdered.. i was trying to call my family to check on a loved one and tried for half an hour to call out i finally just searched for a pay phone..then the customer service..such rude arrogant people...they treat you like you are stupid and are bothering them..and also they are closed on weekends( are you freaken serious) they give you and emergency number that you can dial and wait on hold for 2 hours to be told we can only troubleshoot if you have problems with your bill please call back on monday.. then without letting me know they extend my contract saying when i changed my text plan i agreed to a new 2 year..

now on to verizon..i have been with them for 2 years never a dropped call..also the best customer service i have ever had...they spend time with you actually explaining things..they go over you features and plan to save money..as to one of the previous comments a person put on here they do not extend your contract for everything..they only extend from what i understand if you change your calling plan and have less than a year left..also if you are like me and have busy months every now and then if you call by like 3 days before your end of bill month you can make the change to save from overages.. i do this like 4 times a year..also they can have the calling plan go back down for you when your min start over for the next month and you not even have to call back..if you do that the contract that you had to resign when your changed is like it never happened so there is no extension.. this is the second time i have been with verizon as i had to move internationally for a while and a great thing they have is if you have to cancel before the contract is up you dont necessarily have to pay $175 ea

Verizon - It's the network, the service, the phones- Thumbs down

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: Barb D on Monday, August 20, 2007
From: Oakbrook Terrace, IL (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: None

Cons: Worst phones (esp. Motorola); calls dropped constantly, longest wait time for 611, and they will extend your contract EVERY TIME you make the slightest change to your plan (which they don't tell you!)

Summary: BEWARE - the worst cellular experience I ever had was with Verizon. Unlike my current carrier, they won't let you change your plan without re-starting the 2 year contract every time!!! Their rates are highest; the phones poorest, and again, the constantly dropped calls make it impossible to count on a real conversation!

poor coverage

Overall Rating:
2.3 out of 5
By: Ed Deinarowicz on Sunday, August 12, 2007
From: Apex, NC (United States)
Experience: 4 Years
Pros: it works great! everywhere else

Cons: barely works in Apex or Holly springs, NC

Summary: Verizon is a great wireless company, we have found that after many phone calls that there towers here are what they call drive thru towers(which are not good if you live in the mentioned areas above)after about 7 calls they now are going to release us from our contract. This is just an FYI for those of you in these areas. Oh yeah we were told that we would have excellent coverage in Apex before we moved here. Make sure you check the coverage maps

No customer service support

Overall Rating:
2 out of 5
By: Thomas Funderburg on Friday, August 10, 2007
From: Elkhart, IN (United States)
Experience: 1 Years
Pros: IN calling and coverage.

Cons: Network outages and dropped calls.

Summary: I bought my Verizon phone and went with the PrePay plan of 350 anytime and 1000 nights and weekends for $50.00 a month. I still had around $30.00 of credit at the end of every month. No rollover. I went on vacation and missed making my monthly payment. I called and asked for a couple days grace until I got back. NO way, "Pay now". I switched to T-Mobile with no coverage problems or dropped calls and more minutes and much cheaper.

good coverage, bad customer service

Overall Rating:
2.3 out of 5
By: unhappy with verizon on Friday, August 10, 2007
From: jacksonville, FL (United States)
Experience: 10 Years
Pros: probably the best coverage of any cell phone company

Cons: bad customer service, expensive plans, not the best selection of phones.

Summary: I have been with Verizon for nearly ten years now but will certainly switch to another carrier when my contract is up this year. I recently moved to central Florida and have somehow started going over my minutes by the 100s says Verizon. I received a text msg from Verizon saying I was in danger of going over my minutes so I started watching carefully who I talked to and when. I later learned that the message was sent after I had already gone over by nearly 200 minutes!! What was the point of the "in danger" warning if you have already started charging me. When I received my bill, it was nearly $200 more than usual. They said I could upgrade to more minutes but they would add two more years to my contract! No way, especially since it's a computer error and I haven't really been going over my minutes. But of course, how can i prove this? it's their computers that log my phone calls. I tell her to look at all of my previous statements, my minutes have never been this high, ever. Why all of a sudden would i start talking 200 minutes more than usual. She has no response and says sorry, that's what the computer shows. So i started keeping track of who I call and for how long. But it's my word against theirs. I called again to try to convince them of the mistake and she says, well i can give you our customer credit of $15 and I'll double it to $30 because you've been a good customer for so long. O thanks, $30. Apparently, each verizon customer gets a credit of $15 every 6 months for being a customer. But it isn't advertised. I asked if I could apply all the credits that i haven't used but of course not. I guess it's a blessing in disguise because my disappointment with Verizon has just forced me to research other, better cell phone companies, which are few. Anyway, i will certainly not be a Verizon customer for much longer. If you are a Verizon customer, don't forget to use your credit every 6 months.
