Merger? : Helio and Virgin Mobile in Talks to Join Forces
Could everyone's favorite MVNO be looking to merge with a less cool but bigger and badder MVNO?  Could be. Multiple media outlets have been reporting that Helio (everyone's fave, if you ask me) and Virgin Mobile USA (actually bigger and badder than Helio) are in talks to join forces.  Details are a little bit sketchy right now, but one scenario desribed by The Washington Post has Helio's parent company SK Telecom buying out Virgin Mobile USA and then pouring some cash into the...

At Your Service?

Pros: Got it for an extra phone. Good signal most everywhere, reasonable price, (although I haven't checked the competition lately.) Great for finding your regular phone when you misplace it!

Cons: Customer service ranges from great to an absolute nightmare. This is the nightmare.

Summary: One of the advantages of Virgin Mobile (or any prepaid) is that you can change the area code (I've been working on it for a week now,) if you're going to be in a particular area for a time. Then everybody still locked to landlines won't have to call you long distance. It's great to have one stashed in your console too, when you can't seem to remember what your regular cell phone is under.

But a word of warning. Don't try and actually do it. (Change the area code, that is.) It can take forever, and when you do, at least in Nashville, where they seem to be out of numbers, it seems that your balance is reduced to $0.00, no matter what it was in the first place. They finally got me a new Nashville number, but when they did, it made my balance of $77.10 disappear into thin air! Now "Simone" wants me to top up. I'll do that when pigs fly and Mt. Rushmore sings "God Bless The USA in four-part harmony!" Or I get my $77.10 back...maybe.

Worst customer service I could ever imagine

Overall Rating:

Pros: none

Cons: no real customer service.

Summary: I'd give them zero stars if I could.
Customer service is the worst I have ever encountered just shockingly bad. If you ever get to speak to a real person they are rude, unhelpful and 80% of the time your call will be dropped if they put you on hold.
I wish I had read these reviews first because when I changed my plan online I had no idea I would loose my minutes. I called the customer service number and after 15 minutes of listening to their rather condescending robot automated service managed to get through to a real person. Its not easy because there is a tree of questions that you have to answer correctly before 'Simone' will even consider letting you speak to a real person and very limited options. When I finally got through to a real person she told me she could change it back but I would not be able to use my phone for 72 hours (?), fine just switch it back. She put me on hold and then the call was dropped. Another infuriating 30 minutes trying to find a real person to talk to I got through to someone, I made sure he did not put me on hold so I would not get dropped, he told me he could refund what I had paid but had no way of getting my minutes back. I asked then if I could cancel my service and get my $75 balance returned to me and he said no. I asked to speak to his supervisor. The supervisor was the coldest and most snide person that I actually had to question that he was a real customer service rep. He confirmed that if I cancelled my service I would loose my balance and of course I could not get my minutes back. As soon as Ive used up my balance I will get rid of Virgin.
I had a problem before where the web site told me my transaction had not gone through and to call a customer representative. I ended up being charged 3 times for the transaction that supposedly had 'not gone through'. When I called and got through to a person my call was dropped twice and then I got through to a lady in Sri Lanka who knew nothing about what was going on and was not able to understand me. It took me 3 hours over 3 days to resolve this issue. I really wish I had given up Virgin then.

Virgin Mobile?

Overall Rating:
4.3 out of 5

From: Rockford, IL (United States)

Pros: Never had a drop call or bad signal. always had my favorite Country ringtones without looking for hours for them. The best costmer service i have ever seen. Cheap phones for people on a budget. Most reliable pre-paid i have ever seen. Uses Sprint Best network. always change plans to meet peoples budget. it's cool if you have a old plan that you like and they updated it and it doesn't fit you you can keep the old plan and price but once you upgrade to the plan you can't go back to the old plan. v

Cons: And the bad parts i hated about virgin mobile. First they didn't use sim cards so if you want to get a new phone or you lost your phone you have all the info and contacts gone (Not your Phone Number). Their phones sucked i hated that they used the same phone brand over and over again, they need to mix it up alittle like in the virgin mobiles in other countries. their Pre-Paid plans when always changing sometimes for the good and most of the times for the worst (In my case). they charged an arm a

Summary: Overall i think Virgin Mobile is a very good Pre-Paid Cell phone plan. It's never let me down in signal and service. A Good starter phone company to get your kids to learn to budget their not only money but minutes and uses.

Good but pricey

Pros: Ok signal, call record available online

Cons: Rates are too high. Can't disable text messaging.

Summary: I have Virginombile for a teenager. The signal (SrintPCS) is adequate where it is used. The call record is available online. Customer service seems good. However, the rate of $.18 per minute is now less competitive with other prepaid providers and we will be switching.

Virgin Mobile is one of the best prepaid services!

Pros: no hidden fees, little to no dropped calls, superb customer service & nite/weekends minutes start at 7pm! not 9pm.

Cons: small choice of phone & since they change plans, unlimited nite/weekends plans kinda high.

Summary: I got hooked on Virgin Mobile about 2 years ago. This is one prepaid phone company that is very trustworthy with outstanding service. Did you know that if your phone is lost or stolen, you can shut your VM phone down right from the website?? I had mine stolen on a Saturday nite & within minutes, I went to website and shut my phone down. The following Monday, I contacted VM customer Service & they gave me another Snapper (cmd8915) for about $35 rather than the full purchase price! That was awesome! I can't really say anything too bad about Virgin Mobile because I have had nothing but a pleasant experience with them!

Re: Never heard of this one.

I had one of these awhile back.  IT was the brand that I got when I was using Virgin Mobile's prepaid cell phone service.

Re: Which company offers the best Pre Paid service.

I find all the prepaid plans pretty expensive.  TracPhone and Virgin Mobile I have found to have at least good service.

Re: anyone with virgin?

I have virgin mobile and nah you don't buy a card every month, you pick a plan whatever you wish. You get your monthly bill and they just take it out ofyour account monthly.Very simple. MY bill is 45

My friend is planning to order Virgin mobile online. Do you know any details of virgin mobile shipments? We are not U.S. residents.

Re: Which company offers the best Pre Paid service.

I'm going to assume you meant "Durable phones". Cingular probably has the largest selection of phones, but no mobile to mobile minutes. :( Besides pre-paid only carriers, many national carriers
