Motorola showed a few nifty handsets at CES in Las Vegas back in January, but was almost a no-show at 3GSM in Barcelona last month, sparking more rumors about the one-time King of Handsets possibly looking to spinoff their mobile phone division.  A wee bit of good news came in the form of a rumor that the ROKR E8 is headed to T-Mobile USA, but it was overshadowed by the disappointment that none of MOTO's leaked multimedia handsets made an appearance of any sort at 3GSM.

Fear not, MOTO FANS, the rumor mill just kicked up a little of your favorite kind of dust.  Unwired View is speculating on some "Major handset announcements" coming from Motorola at CTIA in Las Vegas on April, sourcing a MOTO VP that the site said they spoke with at 3GSM.  While no specifics were attributed to said exec, UV put some pieces together and came up with this short list of goodies for Motorola at CTIA:

  • A 5MP imaging phone developed jointly with Kodak that also features the ROKR E8's morphing keypad
  • The MOTO MING 2 (A 1600) Linux smartphone
  • A Q9 update with Windows Mobile 6.1
  • A new music-centric slider phone that may be the ROKR E10

Here's hoping the guys at Unwired View are on to something here.  It'd be nice to see MOTO back in the game.  Once upon a time they rocked the cell phone world with the StarTac and RAZR, remember?

AT&T announces Motorola Z9 Slider with GPS

AT&T announces Motorola Z9 Slider with GPS
AT&T made the rumor mongers feel smart today, announcing the availability of the Motorola Z9 handset.  This slider phone features onboard GPS with AT&T's navigation service, which is now called AT&T Navigator.  You'll also get quad-band GSM coverage with support for high speed data (3.6Mbps HSDPA), stereo Bluetooth, and microSD memory card expansion. Sadly, the 2MP camera everyone thought would be coming on this phone has been traded in for a lesser 1.3MP model. ...

Verizon Wireless announced three new handsets that the rumor mill has been expecting for a short while now.  Details below - all three phones will be available in April.  Hopefully, all three phones will also be at the VZW shindig tonight so I can get my mitts all over them and report back to you. The Motorola Q9c is a business-focused version of the Q9m smartphone that made its way into VZW's lineup last year.  Q9c will ship with Windows Mobile Standard 6, VZ Navigator, and...
