HTC G1 White Cell Phone
Here it is! It's a G1 party as Noah unboxes the first Android phone. Be sure to catch all of our video reviews of the first Android phone, the HTC G1. During the live demo at the T-Mobile / HTC / Google Android launch event, Doug got a chance to take a closer look at some of the T-Mobile G1's hardware. The device comes with a 1GB SD card, USB port, and removable battery.
This one's a little thin, but it's been a slow news day so what the heck ... David over at TmoNews swears up and down - or blogged, anyway - that a trusted source got wind of some kind of a "new" G1 coming from T-Mobile soon and a myTouch 3G Version 2 already on tap for next year: First, MyTouch is now considered a franchise name for T-mobile. ThinkSidekick. Other details were pretty sparse, but apparently topics ofdiscussion were a “new”... To key, or not to key: that is the question. Throughout our coverage of newly released and upcoming Android devices, you all have posted a lot of comments. Topics run the gamut from style to battery life, and virtually every aspect in between has received a nod. But there is one subject that draws more comments than all of the others combined: hardware versus virtual keyboards. Of course, personal taste has a tremendous role in determining what... If you've been having any issues with your T-Mobile G1 Android phone, help is on the way. A new fix is being pushed over-the-air to Android cell phones. T-Mobile customers will receive the update over the next couple of weeks. Here are a few of the fixes you can expect:
Google Search by voice
Google Latitude, a new feature of Google Maps for mobile used for finding a friend's location on a map, sharing your location and status with friends... Battery life has been my most significant complaint about the G1. So I decided to find every instance where power was being used unnecessarily and eliminate the waste. Following these steps significantly extended the life of my battery. And I've continued to use the features that make the G1 worth owning. Of course a lot of these options apply to other devices as well. Some are specific to the G1. Recalibrate the battery I thought this problem... I don't want to kill anyone's Black Friday shopping buzz, or discourage you from buying the G1 as a holiday gift. But I have dedicated a lot of posts to pointing out the benefits of this phone, and it's operating system, Android. I think it's time that I cover some negative aspects of the device. Most design problems become apparent over time, and may not be recognizable during an in-store test. They're not the kind of thing you want to be... The T-Mobile G1 is the first cell phone to utilize Google's new Android OS. Key features include a full slide out QWERTY style keyboard, 3G data, Wifi, Google maps with street view, 3.0 megapixel camera, music player (1GB memory card included), touchscreen, stereo Bluetooth and video playback Pros: capacitive touch screen, good resolution, excellent web browsing, nice querty keyboard, marketplace.custom desktop with widgets and apps Cons: no 3.5mm headphone jack must use usb adapter, not very stylish, battery life not the greatest expandable up to 2600 mah if your willing give the phone some thickness stock battery is 1150mah Summary: i have been following the g1 since the rumors first escalated of the device and i must say i,m not mad that i followed this phone. first and foremost the phone is not stylish not the least bit but features this phone have are very good with all the apps, different widgets and the growing android operating system you make this phone your own.It proves there is much more to come in mobile world Pros: It runs Android. Amazing Capacitive Touch Screen -Best Screen I've used since the iPhones. Android interface is nice and responsive and comes with Android Market for 3rd party programs. Cons: Battery life could be better just make sure to charge it every night. I wish that it had better styling, I'm not big on the plastic but it looks and feels nice and solid in the hand for being mostly plastic. A problem with Android is that your tied to Google services, which you can port stuff over so it's not that big of a deal it's just a bother. Summary: It's a good phone, but your paying for it with the required data service at $25 a month and $200 initial price tag. I recomment whole heartidly. Pros: Android! And a keyboard + trackball! Cons: Silly shape & sliding design, wonky USB port. Summary: ANDROID! This is everything good about the iPhone, on a decent handset! Coming from the iPhone to the G1's physical keyboard, I make practically no mistakes while typing. Thanks to the trackball, I don't really need to zoom in on web pages anymore, and for any complaints about it's native browser, you have options! I have personally tried Browser, Opera, and Steel, with Steel being my personal favorite. Flash is compatible and in the works, more than can be said for the iPhone. The apps, while not as numerous, are pretty amazing, with access to more hardware functions than any other phone out yet, making them MUCH more useful. The only things that bothers me is that the screen, when extended, doesn't hold itself in a straight line, parallel to the top row of keys. With my Libra Moon, I like my lines to have angularity! Like everyone, I also don't understand why there isn't a standard headphone jack, even if it had to be next to the proprietary ExtUSB one. Hopefully other Android phones will utilize other sliding mechanisms (like on the TouchPro2!) and port designs in the future! 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful Summary: this is the best phone ever made.now all t mobile has to work on is the service 2 out of 3 people found this review helpful Pros: Does everything that the Iphone does. The white is a eye catcher for women. Key board makes it so easy to txt. Apps Market is Free!!!! that means that shazam that is so cool on the Iphone G1 has it for free.. Three screens Count them 3 that you can swip over too. Oh Google street view kicks ass if you stay in a big city. Cons: Battery Life sucks, I mean it really does. I.M sucks it keeps kicking you out.. Cam is slow, and thats about it. if you can live with those it is the best phone since the car Phone!!! Summary: You will love the phone. It does everything, like i mean everything and all Apps are free!!!! if you thinken bout getting the phone get it. Its cheaper then switching to the Iphone and its different.. Has the best touch screen next to the iphone. I love it i have no second thoughts about it. 4 out of 4 people found this review helpful All HTC G1 White user reviewsanyone please convince me that G1 black is the best color to get?...and the advantages of the black G1 phone to the brown and white ?...hope to hearing back from you................and this phone doesn't have T9,right? or the white one has? I see. I've toyed around with the 3 main ones (not brave enough to try sweeter home yet) and they all have pros and cons and I just can't decide on one so I'm just sticking with the regular home screen for now. Thanks for the reply. here's a vid I did, but I didn't do Sweeter Home justice. It's all a matter of preference, really. i like aHome, but they are dropping 3rd party widget support with Cupcake, and are embracing the new Android widget standard. Since I am running Cupcake, I use the non-Cupcake version of aHome to keep all my widgets. Well I guess I'm answering my own questions. Right now I've downloaded the open home lite and I really like it. I'm stilll getting used to it. I think I may go with it for a while and then switch to the other replacements and go from there. Any extra insight would be appreciated. After a quick search of the site, I see that you have reviewed all 3 of these. Which one would you suggest and why? After having used them for a little while is there any one that stands out more than the other? Thanks for everything!! Keep the android news coming. John,Which home replacement would you suggest for the g1? If you haven't done it already, would you be able to write a review of ahome, openhome, and dxtop? Better yet would you be able to do a video review of them all? I know you're busy so even if it's an ongoing or long term review that would be great. Thanks! i have a g1 and it is the best phone i have ever had. the blackberry doesnt have an app store. it has really great email system. notifies you everytime. i would say get a g1 and also it doesnt have that good of a gps so idk. well i am glad i can help and expect new g phones (i cant say anything else) soon (2 m)you will have to guess what that means since i cant say much more Than you very much and you were right lol the thing about the G1 though is I hear it has an abysmal battery life and I would love to wait for the new G series but I have no idea when it might be lol if the curev just had 3G and better apps it would be easy though I do love the idea of the whole toch screen and QWERTY keyboard well hello fellow nerd!!! (i hope)well in your case you dont seem like much of a business user so i have to agree my G1 rocks though i am glad it didnt break because the process to get a new one sucks.all right here is the phonescope (dogfight style battle)the g1 has something very much like the appstore that will soon have tons of applications just like the iphone, it is a beautiful device that only lacks a headphone jack and possible thinner...
