What’s Not Good: Big, bulky, heavy, and not particularly attractive; QWERTY thumbboard is not as good as those on other recent HTC phones; Lacks 3.5mm headphone jack; No Stereo Bluetooth or video capture/playback support out of the box
Bottom Line: Android will change the game, and while far from perfect, the G1 is more than compelling. I have a list of complaints a mile long but they’re overshadowed by how fun the Android user experience is on the T-Mobile G1.

Read full review » I haven't had the chance to test this one out for myself yet but it looks pretty great. I think it's safe to say you shouldn't be running the auto-rooting app on your myTouch. From what I've read, that phone presents a different set of problems in terms of hacking. Progress is being made though. I don't have a G1 on hand right now, but when I do I'll post the results. We want to take you on a... It's no secret that HTC's G1 - the first device to ship with Android - has become a hacker and modder playground. As far as I know, it is the most tweaked and twiddled phone in the annals of (somewhat) mainstream consumer-grade gadgetdom. People who couldn't wait for highly-anticipated features or accept the limitations imposed by security concerns made the G1 exactly what they wanted it to be; perhaps what it should have been from the start.... Citrix used the iForum 2009 in Singapore to show off an Android version of their receiver software, which is already available for iPhone. Citrix compares their virtualization experience to turning on a television. It's a one-time, 15-minute set up. I'm really tempted to ask why anyone would want to do such a thing, but I recognize the significance of the ability to run Office on an Android device. I just don't need it personally.
... So you're in love with Sense, but can't afford (wait for/settle for the US 2G of) HTC's Hero. Well, LevelUp Studio has what you need in the form of five Hero-inspired beautiful widgets called...Beautiful Widgets. They cost €0.99, which is about $1.40. I purchased mine the day they were released, which I would guess was about two weeks ago. Since then, there has been one widget added, and at least one fix for the clock/weather widget,... Man, oh man. Once you get sucked into the culture of cooked ROMs, it's hard to break free. Don't get me wrong, I don't have the vaguest understanding of how subversive coders accomplish the fruits of their (and others') labor, but I sure am seduced by said fruits...and pastries. David over at TmoNews swears up and down - or blogged, anyway - that a trusted source got wind of some kind of a "new" G1 coming from T-Mobile soon and a myTouch 3G Version 2 already on tap for next year: First, MyTouch is now considered a franchise name for T-mobile. ThinkSidekick. Other details were pretty sparse, but apparently topics ofdiscussion were a “new”... Pros: capacitive touch screen, good resolution, excellent web browsing,nice querty keyboard,marketplace.custom desktop with widgets and apps Cons: no 3.5mm headphone jack must use usb adapter,not very stylish,battery life not the greatest expandable up to 2600 mah if your willing give the phone some thickness stock battery is 1150mah Summary: i have been following the g1 since the rumors first escalated of the device and i must say i,m not mad that i followed this phone. first and foremost the phone is not stylish not the least bit but features this phone have are very good with all the apps,different widgets and the growing android operating system you make this phone your own.It proves there is much more to come in mobile world Pros: It runs Android. Amazing Capacitive Touch Screen -Best Screen I've used since the iPhones. Android interface is nice and responsive and comes with Android Market for 3rd party programs. Cons: Battery life could be better just make sure to charge it every night. I wish that it had better styling, I'm not big on the plastic but it looks and feels nice and solid in the hand for being mostly plastic. A problem with Android is that your tied to Google services, which you can port stuff over so it's not that big of a deal it's just a bother. Summary: It's a good phone, but your paying for it with the required data service at $25 a month and $200 initial price tag. I recomment whole heartidly. Pros: Android! And a keyboard + trackball! Cons: Silly shape & sliding design, wonky USB port. Summary: ANDROID! This is everything good about the iPhone, on a decent handset! Coming from the iPhone to the G1's physical keyboard, I make practically no mistakes while typing. Thanks to the trackball, I don't really need to zoom in on web pages anymore, and for any complaints about it's native browser, you have options! I have personally tried Browser, Opera, and Steel, with Steel being my personal favorite. Flash is compatible and in the works, more than can be said for the iPhone. The apps, while not as numerous, are pretty amazing, with access to more hardware functions than any other phone out yet, making them MUCH more useful. The only things that bothers me is that the screen, when extended, doesn't hold itself in a straight line, parallel to the top row of keys. With my Libra Moon, I like my lines to have angularity! Like everyone, I also don't understand why there isn't a standard headphone jack, even if it had to be next to the proprietary ExtUSB one. I also have the G2 and am not crazy about it at all, the touch keyboard is too finicky for me. The Market has apps comparable to those of the iphone. I think the iphone is overrated....imho. I'm currently using an iphone 2g on tmobile and am really considering on buying a g1 for the 3g data. Would it be a good switch?

Big difference in monthly fees and T-Mobile requires its customers to pay that amount whether you use the apps or not. AT&T gives you the option to use and a trial period as well. Please and thanks. Have a good one If you like your current phone and service, then don't change. I had the G1 and currently have the iPhone 3G (not S). There's not much difference in speed to justify a switch. I didn't like T-Mobile's service in my area and the area I traveled in. Otherwise, I would have been fine with the G1.
I miss the G1's customizability compared to iPhone for certain things. The iPhone does have a lot more apps. But the question is, are you going to use... I know that it is late, and maybe there is already an answer to the question, but on the off chance that it hasnt been answered, or that someone else like me stumbles onto this topic it would be nice to have an answer posed.
What your talking about are 2 seperate things. Using an application to compare pricing info, and someone using a device for fraudulent purposes.
Yes the G1 does have the ability to check barcodes through applications...
I've had a G1 since November 2008. The rest of my family (2 parents and 2 siblings) all have iPhone 3GSs and are on AT&T. I had the original iPhone for a month when it was released but reverted back to the sidekick. This was before the App Store came out. I like my G1, but there's just something about the speed of the iPhone 3GS that makes me want to get it, along with the multitude of apps that it offers. I'm not sure whether I should get...
