HTC Touch Pro2 CDMA Cell Phone
Noah takes a look at Verizon's current lineup as of September 2009. In this video? Smartphones and rumors about new phones. Verizon's HTC Touch Pro2 is the least expensive yet. Go figure! Noah gets it out of the box. Sprint's HTC Touch Pro2 has a real headphone jack! Yay! But it's still $349.99 after rebate ... Boo!
This weekend, I decided to take a trip away from the city and into the higher elevations for a weekend getaway. I wanted to visit with my family, and while there, to check out the scenery that the region is known for around this time. Though I brought my various personal wireless lines with me, my primary provider doesn't get service in the area. Immediately realizing the opportunity for a real-life test, I charged the Verizon...
Despite various reports about the status of the HTC Touch Pro2 on US Cellular, it looks as if the device is a definite "go." What's more, the U.S. Cellular version will be the first CDMA Touch Pro2 to ship with Windows Mobile 6.5. All of the other features are stock - a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 3.6-inch tilting touchscreen, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, and a microSD card slot with support for up to a 32 GB card.
I took the picture... After weeks of sitting at the $350 mark (and that's after a $100 mail-in rebate, meaning you'll have to shell out an obscene $450 out the door), Sprint has finally come down off of the high horse and decided to compete with Verizon's $199 pricing (again, after a $150 mail-in rebate). Honestly, with the BlackBerry Tour, Palm Pre, and HTC Hero all priced at or around $199 after rebate, they couldn't afford not to. The $199 pricing...
When the HTC Touch Pro2 landed on Verizon, I knew it would be successful for two reasons: (1) the price point (lower than any of its competitors), and (2) it's the first exciting Windows Mobile device to land on the carrier in quite some time. At $199.99 after rebates, Verizon placed the Touch Pro2 in a competitive position to rival the BlackBerry Tour, iPhone, and Palm Pre.
That being said, is it surprising that the nation's largest... Carrier: SprintRetail Price: $599.99 or via ebay Contract Price: $349.99Hot Features: WiFi, touchscreen with full QWERTY keyboard that slides out Carrier: Verizon WirelessRetail Price: $299.99 or via ebayContract Price: $199.99Hot Features: WiFi, touchscreen with full QWERTY keyboard that slides out Pros: Lots of functions. Built pretty sturdily. Both physical and screen works well. Cons: Clunky. No battery life, dies before completing a days work (7hrs if you work it is all I got). Insufficient memory. Needs to remove battery cover to use SD memory card. Likes to freeze up. Bluetooth works spotty. Slow response. Scrolling and gestures poor. Many functions but no programs to use them. Summary: Not for heavy use unless you have spare battery or you can keep it plugged in. Jack of all trades but definitely masters none well. If you don't need windows for your job don't get it. Not user friendly. Needs faster cpu and more memory. Not for everyday use. Display too small. Wouldn't buy again. Summary: It constantly freeze up. T-mo exchanged my phone twice and all three of them had the same problem. And the funny thing is t-mo tech support told me not to install any third-party software. Than what i am going to do with this powerful phone? Pros: Setting up and adding contacts easy to do, just plug into computer and it automatically updates your contacts and your calender which is also good since you have backup files on phone and computer. Sound quality is great i could listen to music and watch movies all day on it. This phone is really light weight and easy to carry around. Easily customizable and makes this literally your own phone. the screen itself is really durable. I was working and it got dropped straight on a nail and there is Cons: Phone case cracks easily but you can send the phone in for a new one. When i receive picture messages my phone will often freeze up and I will be forced to turn the phone off then back on to look at the file. The boot up process is really slow compared to most other phones I have owned but this one is also a lot more complicated which may add to the lag. Sometimes if I send a message and one is trying to come in at the same time the messaging feature will lock up so I can access anything else Summary: Overall I believe this phone is worthwhile getting if you can look past the minor flaws that this phone contains. I would recommend purchasing screen protectors and maybe looking for like a rubber sleeve that can go over the phone so the case doesn't crack so easily. 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful Pros: Display, keyboard, 3G Cons: UMA (wifi calling support from Provider) Summary: certainly a good phone but missing UMA 0 out of 2 people found this review helpful Pros: Display is great! The apps are terrific and the ease of use. Love the keyboard and the touch screen is very receptive. Cons: The battery life. That is the only thing I do not like! They need a better battery for this device it is a power-user! Summary: I am happy with the phone. Hope they come up with a solution to the short battery life. 4 out of 4 people found this review helpful All HTC Touch Pro2 CDMA user reviewsSorry for the late reply but here are my requirements:
Battery Life: At least 12 hours
IM clients (AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo).
Social Networking: Which of the phones I listed have access to FaceBook, Twitter and MySpace chat through preloaded or downloadable apps?
Music: I want to stop carrying an iPod and a phone, and my current iTunes library is close to 35 GB.
Camera: I don't care what megapixel. I take pics during the summer,... Well, depends. The touch pro 2 and pantech are both smart phones, so they WILL REQUIRE A DATA PLAN WHICH IS 29.99. They are all solid phones, but the HTC touch pro 2 is the best by far. The large offset 5 row QWERTY is the best beside blackberry devices, the screen is beutiful, and largeer than the iphone, windows mobile and touchflo cannot be matched except for maybe sense UI, The interface is AMAZING, facebook intergration, and the tilting... Absolutely...anything to quite my coworker who swears that the Storm 2 is the second coming. Sprint isn't the only one that has it for 349. T-Mobile has it for that same price and I wanted the phone from them but I'm jumping ship. I was gonna go to Verizon but apparently someone else called a Verizon store and they don't even know about the phone. I'm sticking to my gut feeling and jumping ship to AT&T for the Pantech Matrix Pro. Did my research and talked to people who have Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile. Narrowed it down to the following 3 phones: LG enV3, HTC Touch Pro 2 and Pantech Matrix Pro.
Carrier service doesn't really matter. They all work in my house. What I'm looking for is just opinions on the devices.
I would like to see this dogfight too!! I am on Verizon and I have used only BB smartphones in the past (primarily for business). Before all this Droid buzz, I was seriously enamored w/ the TP2 (again for business use) and thought the WinMo 6.X platform woudl serve my purposes very well (doc editing, email, web browsing, text, IM etc)...but now I just don't know. With 16GB on board and a snappy processor...the Droid looks very... i currently have the storm and am sick of the issues i have with it!
i was looking into getting the storm 2 for sure but after further reading i see the droid is the best out for verizon. its again not an iphone but looks like it will do nicely I agree. I will be picking mine up next Friday (11/6).
Had the Pre, have the Hero. Will be returning the Hero this weekend and going back to Verizon.
I will be looking at the Storm 2 also.
The Droid would win hands down, it's got a faster proscessor, higher res screen, more features, overall it's better. Would like to see a dog fight between the Blackberry Storm 2, HTC Toch Pro 2 and Droid. Currently on Verizon Network and have narrowed choice down to these three.
