LG Venus Cell Phone
What’s Good: Beautiful display; Context-sensitive menus; Extensive feature set; VZ Navigation works very well
What’s Not Good: Half a touchscreen sometimes feels gimmicky and frustrating; Touch controls sometimes unresponsive; Poor voice quality with unacceptable hiss on some calls; Somewhat bulky overall
Bottom Line: Venus’ half-touch/half-not display is an interesting idea that ultimately frustrated me more than it charmed me. The screens are beautiful and the morphing menus great, but I found myself wanting to touch the entire screen and not just the lower portion. Some won’t mind this, though, and for those Venus may be a dream come true: it’s a feature-rich slider with a beautiful high-res display and access to all of Verizon’s multimedia offerings save VCAST TV.

Read full review » Check out Noah's sneak peak at Verizon's Voyager and Venus smartphones scheduled for release this November LG's KF600 "Bikini" is basically a non-Verizon version of the LG Venus with a different, and perhaps slightly sexier, name. Bikini is also a bone thrown by LG's Naming Dept. (is there such a thing) in the direction of LG's Sexy Marketing Dept., as evidenced by this recent flood of ads featuring a fine young thing in a two-piece swimsuit posing with the new handset.

LG is not the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile phones but they may just be the leader in consistently bringing super hip, gotta have it cell phones to market. In the past six months or so they’ve unleashed an armada of eye catching handsets, including the Voyager, Prada, Viewty, Shine, Glimmer, and Vu. Not to be left out is the Venus, a Verizon Wireless slider phone with a unique split-screen display. At first glance... Venus looks like the hi-tech luxury item it is. Slightly wider and larger than today’s average slider phone, Venus has an eye-catching chrome rim around its display and a grippy faux-leather backside that feels nice in the hand. My review sample was finished in classic black, and a pink version is also now available through Verizon. The back panel houses handset’s 2MP camera lens, and also snaps off to reveal the battery... I tested Venus on Verizon’s CDMA network in the San Francisco Bay Area with less than pleasing results. Signal strength was generally good but voice quality was pretty shaky. Calls often exhibited digital distortion making the person on the other end sound a bit “robotic” or garbled. In a handful of cases calls came through with enough static that I hung up and tried again. I checked around the Web and noticed that a... Pros: Look and Feel. Cons: Silver on side came off from normal use. Touch Screen not accurate. Durability. Summary: After 6 months of normal use, this phone came apart. The only thing connecting it was the cable. We tried getting this covered under manufacturer warranty but Verizon would not accept that. If phones are marketed to 13 year olds, they should be able to stand up to a 13 year-old. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful Summary: I had this phone for a few months and everything was working fine. Then there were some software issues so I took it back to the Verizon store and they replaced it. Phones should be designed to take a little bit of damage. I try to be careful with it but the second time I dropped it the screen cracked. It was sitting on my lap, I forgot it was there and it made a short drop about 3 feet to the floor. It also had difficulty charging so I took it to the verizon store and the salesman told me "It's a piece of crap" and that there was nothing they were going to do for me. I've been finding way to get it to charge by setting small counter weights to hold the cord in exactly the right position for it to make the phone charge but now it wont charge at all. The touchscreen is cracked and unreadable so you don't know what the buttons are. I was shocked at how poor the durability was. In the end the verizon guy said it all. "It's a piece of crap." Pros: none Cons: silver on the side comes off, bad camera, battery life is bad, and everything else about it sucks Summary: i hate it. it is so so so so so so so very very very bad and terrible 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful Pros: looks good, music player is decent, nice form factor, camera setup is nice Cons: horrible battery life, touchscreen is gimmeky at best, keypad is terrible,C amera also horrible bad build quality overall Summary: got my venus nearly a year ago, it worked decently for the first few weeks but then the touchscreen started to go. Let's get this straight: the touchscreen isnt that good to start with, i'll touch one corner and it'll select the exact opposite or i push as hard as i can and it wont register sometimes th screen registers a click but the phone wont. Now the screen is horrible, i can barely get it to work, and i dont abuse my phones. without use of the touchscreen all you can really do is make calls(thats why i marked down ease of use, without the screen it isnt easy to use at all). The keyboard was good to start with too but now its really mushy, keys get stuck, they wiggle loose, the paint is coming off of them, once again i dont abuse my phones so i dont know why it's happening. Overall build quality was decent to start with, it had a good wieght and the back has a nice feel, however it's very plastiky. Now it feels like its falling apart, the slider mechanism feels like it'll throw the screen off of the phone if you slide it too fast. The camera is a piece of junk too. I know its only 2mp but i figured it would be a little bit better then it is. Every picture i have is horribly blurred, movie capture is just a bunch of blurs moving around, you need to have the phone still and the subject still to have any chance at getting a good shot. Now dont get me wrong, this was a good phone when i first bought it. It had extremely nice screens, it didn't feel too shabby the touchscreen worked and all of my friends were jealous of its good looks. However it seriously needs some work on the hardware side to make it worth it, and the software could work alittle nicer with the phone too. i dont know if it was just mine that fell apart or not but i hate my phone now, im ditiching it soon it's so bad. Pros: It is a amazing phone. Camera is superb. Cons: none Summary: The venus is a very well thought out phone. E verything about it is great. The video and music features rock. The slider feature is helpful and texting is easier then it looks. 2 out of 6 people found this review helpful All LG Venus user reviewssorry my bad the word gay was overly used by me and i did not mean any offense to any readers well yah but its a cool phone. take the chocolate 4 example. not much features, doesnt mean its gay. venus no offense but the decoy is just plain gay no faetures except it charges ur headset just go buy a mini charger from staples for 20 bucks which phone should i buy between samsung glyde lg versa lg voager lg env2 lg dare lg venus or samsung alais see with me it doesnt matter, i always have to charge my phone up ... everyday. i have had the original EnV, the Venus, and now i have the Glyde and every single time i have had to charge it up during the day .. and most definitely through the night. i dont think it really matters what type of phone you have, if you are an avid texter, like playing on your phone, and make calls.. its going to die. i text a l o t and all of my phones hv died by...
