It's the battle of the touchscreen messaging phones. Noah pits the ever-popular LG Voyager (Verizon) against the newcomer PCD Quickfire (AT&T) in a PhoneDog Dogfight. Installment #1 of the PhoneDog Mailbag. Noah answers your questions on Samsung Glyde, Apple iPhone 3G, LG Voyager Titanium, and new T-Mobile phones. Noah gets all over the new Voyager Titanium for Verizon. It's like the old Voyager, but in Titanium (not black), and with Visual Voicemail and Rhapsody support. Q. My phone plan is up in 2 weeks with Sprint. I'm really not sure which phone I should get I'm looking for a touchscreen phone with a keyboard. In your opinion what phone would be the best and it has to be from AT&T or Verizon. I thank you for taking the time to read this.
A. The HTC Touch Pro (Sprint/Verizon) or "Fuze" (AT&T) is a great touchscreen phone with a QWERTY board. It runs WindowsMobile, so it's a full... It's been a little while and the mailbag is overflowing! Let's get right to it:
John asks:Hey Noah, I am thinking of getting a new phone on the Verizon network. Currently I have a Samsung Alias. I want to get a phone that has stellar messaging capabilities, like good email support for mutliple accounts, twitter, IM (AIM), and facebook with good web browsing, also. I am thinking of getting a Blackberry Curve, what else do you suggest?... It's the maiden voyage of the PhoneDog Podcast! On episode one, Noah covers the first week of September in cell phone news: iPhone 3G woes, Google Android and Google Chrome, and T-Mobile's first official 3G phone. We also review iPhone 3G, Voyager Titanium, and the iMate Ultimates, and preview this week's CTIA Wireless show in San Francisco. Verizon sent me their new LG Voyager Titanium late last week and I played with it throughout the holiday weekend. Voyager Titanium is a sharp-looking phone and it basically works like the original, save the additions of Visual Voicemail and the Rhapsody music service. Visual Voicemail works pretty well on first blush, though you'll be paying a few bucks more on your VZW bill each month to use it.
Upgrades aside, my feelings... Verizon Wireless today launched the LG Voyager Titanium, a modest refresh to their flagship VCAST Messaging device. The new Voyager features support for VZW's new Visual Voicemail service and VCAST Music with Rhapsody for compatibility with Rhapsody's over the air music store. The new Voyager otherwise seems to be the same as the original,
featuring a clamshell design with an exterior touchscreen and interior
secondary display and... Pros: everytihng is great Cons: battery sucks Summary: if u are thinking about getting this phone i would try it out and u will enjoy it 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful Pros: Qwerty Keyboard, better upgrade, responsive, and web browsing is great too. Cons: The only cons i hav with this phone is that the battery life is short and that you can type with full keyboard with the touch screen when you're sending text or picture message but you can do it when your web browsing and other things that require you to type. Summary: Overall this is a great phone and the only thing I would change about it is it's battery life and change it so that you can text with the full qwerty keyboard on the touchscreen. This is one great phone and i even wrote the review with this phone too. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful Pros: -touchscreen -keyboard -speakerphone Cons: -battery life! Summary: I love my LG Voyager! I love all the features! The touchscreen is amazing! The keyboard is big so its great for texting! The speakerphone is great I use it all the time! One thing I hate about it is the BATTERY LIFE!!! Overall I think everyone should get this phone! 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful Pros: I love just about everything about my new Voyager, the touch screen rocks and I rarely open it unless required. Cons: However...it would have been nice if you could access the speaker phone from the external keyboard, it is ONLY accessible when the phone is open...what good is that? Also, LG manages to provide a qwerty keyboard on the external screen when you go to my music and choose search and are instructed to "tap here to enter text" so why not have this same qwerty keyboard as a text message feature instead of the traditional 3 letters to a number keyboard? Summary: Can anyone explain these 2 shortfalls that would have really made this phone a "can't live without it" phone? 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful Pros: 1.touch screen 2.keypad 3.media features Cons: 1.battery life 2.not a "pocket phone" Summary: Well this is an all around good phone. A great gift for anyone. With a touch screen and keypad its very unique. The only people this would not be good for is younger children( the touch screen could break). 8 out of 9 people found this review helpful All LG Voyager-Titanium user reviewsThe envV Touch, the Voyager's replacement, will be released June 5th, so I'd hold my horses. when u say every two, you mean enV2 If you like the LG Voyager, wait and get the LG Voyager 2. It is coming out in June or July. It is gonna be so awesome...I CAN'T WAIT!!! Voyager!
Dare is alright it has a nice touchscreen but ive heard its not for heavt txters, nither is the krave. its got a terrible touch screen. I like the glde but the QWERTY board is to small and the touch is worse than the krave and the update dosent help at all!
I love the voyager, great touch nice QWERTY board ive heard that opening the clamshell can be difficult one handed! so theres my opinon hope it helps!!! I really want one of these phones but cant decide@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP Totally Voyager! every person i know in NOT impressed by the env2~! welll thanks for all the help guys! i actually decided to get the env2 in black and i LOVE IT! It's not too big and I don't like the rumoured photos of the env3 or the voyager follow up which actually (i dont believe) is a step up from the origonal voyager. Just like the dare and the versa! well thanks! voyager all the way...ive had plenty of experience with both phones...the voyager is pretty bulky and doesnt have a 3.5 mm jack but it does have a qwerty keyboard if you flip the phone open....the dare has a software qwerty keybord but i find it hard to use...after that its all personal preference I am getting a new phone next week and i narrowed it down to these two phones, from peoples opinoins i want to know which one to get before next week. I need reasons why to get either phone and i need a person with experiance with both phones (it would also help if Adam had a dog fight! about these phones.) Just to let people know i like to text sometimes so i like the voyager in that section but the dare... Hi im getting my new every two from verizon in about 10 days and i was wondering if i should get the Lg voyager in titanium i mean it is what i am looking for in a phone but it is also getting pretty old and i was wondering if there is any other phone from verizon that would be better then that or if the voyager is still an amazing phone and is worthy of my free phone from verizon Buying choicesWith new service with a Verizon plan from $49.99 With pre-paid service This item is not being sold with a pre-paid service service plan by any online merchant.
