Nokia E71 White Steel Cell Phone
By request (thanks, filthyJ!), Noah gets some more time in with the Nokia E71 and brings you a full review of this slim, sexy smartphone. While it's high time that the S60 platform got a makeover - user friendly, anyone? - the E71's hardware lives little to be desired. By request (thanks, filthyJ!), Noah gets some more time in with the Nokia E71 and brings you a full review of this slim, sexy smartphone. While it's high time that the S60 platform got a makeover - user friendly, anyone? - the E71's hardware lives little to be desired. Granted, the device can be purchased unlocked from Best Buy and other various online resellers, however the wait for a carrier subsidized Nokia E71 has been a long one. Much to the pleasure of Nokia fans, the device has finally arrived on two North American carriers: Rogers in Canada, and Cincinnati Bell in the United States. In Canada, the phone is $99.99 on a three-year agreement, while the device is free (after $100 rebate) with a... Peeped on the floor of Nokia World 2008: The E71 in new Red/Silver and Black color schemes. Dude, the Black is sweet. (Photos via E71Blog and Gizmag) I have a tip that is great for people with smart phones that are either only edge capable or on an edge only network. Using Opera Mini browser on my Nokia E71 and N95 on T-mobiles network I can browse the web faster than using AT&T or Sprints 3G networks, I've tested it. The pages load about 3 seconds faster than on the 3G networks. I have found that this is not well known among T-mobile users that I know. Today Nokia officially unveiled the E66 and the E71 smartphone that sports a full QWERTY keyboard. Although the E66 is a sleek slider, and the E71 comes candy-bar style, the devices both support Microsoft exchange and are set to be messaging devices at the core.
Blutetooth compatibility, GPS, expandable memory perfect for a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash come standard on both handsets.
Sadly, they won’t be available... Nokia today made a bunch of fashion-conscious power users happy with the official unveiling of the E66 and E71 smartphones. The two handsets more or less share the same specs, but rock different form factors: The E66 is a slider with a standard dialing/T9-style keypad, while the E71 is a 10mm thin candybar with a full QWERTY keyboard. Personally, I think the E71 looks pretty hot - like a BlackJack II or Moto Q9, but built by... In January, our own Noah Kravitz reported that the Nokia E71 would be available in the second quarter of this year. Well, we are ready for the roll out!
Peter Ha at Crunchgear posted images of the E71 smartphone this weekend that look sexy and sleek. Based on the other recent Nokia offerings, this should be a fully loaded device. Earlier reports claim that it will come packed with a 10mm thin body with a 3mp camera, WiFi, GPS and HSDPA... Pros: Battery Life, Screen, mp3 player, Nokia Internet Radio (added), apps availabe to download - Nokia forums to provide tips and tricks! Cons: Small/tight keypad Summary: I used to have a BlackBerry 8830, but it was the company's phone and I had to give it up when I left that company. I liked it a lot. I had the Sony Ericsson w810i for personal use, but the screen was too small for browsing. So, I was going to get a BlackBerry for my personal phone, but I saw this phone and decided to try it. I like it. (Loved my w810i too) I used to have Nokia phones before the Sony Ericsson. I like Nokia support websites and forums. The e71x is AT&T's version of the e71. AT&T added a bunch of crap on the device and it does not have some of the features of the e71. Despite this, there are some great Nokia e71x Fourms on the internet and you can find out all kinds of tips and tricks! I was able to add some apps that are really neat! Plus, I just found out how to remove some of the crap that is on the phone too! I really like having a 8 GB micro-SD card. I play mp3's often and the battery life is good. I also have the Nokia Internet Radio (tip from a forum) on it and that is awesome too. I can listen to HD Radio stations. It is a nice phone and I'm glad that I decided to get it. It was $99 with a $50 debit card. So, I guess you can say that it was $49... I recommend getting the Krussell case for the phone. Also, it is really made well. It's a little heavy, compared to all of the phone that I have used and to the BlackBerry 8900 (Wife's phone). I'm very pleased with it. Pros: dedicated mail/calendar keys etc easy navigation to commonly used apps slim, lightweight, felt sturdy Cons: everything is customizable, but there aren't previews to define what your customization will be. smart phone with no threaded texting? difficult to dial numbers buttons are too close together Summary: I used this phone heavily for 4 hours, customizing, texting, calling etc.... I took it back. The phone feels sturdy and well built. The OS is fully customizable, which I liked. I disliked the lack of preview for theme changing. didn't immediately connect to wifi, disconnected if you weren't actively using the browser! Had to rescan to reconnect. There is no threaded texting, could not set up my .mac email. I could do that on my old verizon razor! browser with awful, loaded slowly even on wifi. The OS is intuitive, but not as intuitive as it could be. I attempted to download apps from Nokia's site, everything I tried to download told me that it was no longer available??? The keys are too close together and for crying out loud... it's a phone, why do I have to hit two keys for every one number that I want to dial? atleast offer a number lock option! Very frustrating! It did sync immediately with my macbook over bluetooth, quite seamlessly! Even my iPhone didn't do that! I was quite impressed! Overall, great idea... needs some tweaks to be a useful phone.... Hopefully Nokia will take care of that soon! 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful Pros: None that I could find. My V3xx Razr was better than this phone. Cons: Too many to list here, read summary. Summary: Please do not disregard this review. This is my sincere unbiased opinion and I had very high hopes for this phone. I bought it and used it for two weeks. For starters the apps you download from Nokia won't work. You can't play real player files that are larger than 3mb without first running them through Nokia's conversion software even though the phone has real player installed. Phone doesn't charge over USB connection. Headphone plug is 2.5mm instead of the standard 3.5mm which requires a clunky adapter. After purchasing said adapter for $15 audio would cut in and out, not to mention the headphone jack is on the side instead of the top. Menus are extremely confusing, this may be at&t's fault due to their proprietary crapware they installed. Wireless 802.11g doesn't automatically connect, you must manually connect to networks. Internet browser is very slow, with 3G and wireless. Keyboard is way to cramped for adult fingers, you spend more time correcting mistakes than anything. Battery life is poor at best, you must charge every day. Also in the two weeks I had this phone I had to reset it over two dozen times. Display is also very hard to read in sunlight. Display scratched very easily, i kept it in my pocket with no change or keys or anything. Due to the fact I had ordered a case online because at&t had no specific case for the phone only generic cases. I was extremely careful trying not to scratch it. I wouldn't suggest this phone to anyone unless you have someone you despise, if so, get it for them. 1 out of 6 people found this review helpful Pros: thin, slim, easy to use, all the features a smartphone could possibly need. Cons: because it is so skinny and slim, typing can sometimes be difficult. Summary: I have had this phone for 5 months now and have had no problems with it. it is everything that anyone could possibly need. though it is pricy with a $400-$500 price tag, it is absolutly worth it and i highly recommend this phone. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful All Nokia E71 White Steel user reviewswhat is the difference between the nokia e71 and the nokia e55 ? When is the nokia e55 coming out? Thanks well, both are very solid, and are both very powerful, and both have similiar specs, so i thinks it comes down to OS and feel. Both are coming or are at a us carrier, so if you want slimness, go with the e71, but if you want OS you will find your anwer by finding which phone OS you like better. If it were me i would go with the E71 xx though. thanks for the response..! i had a curve for a little bit quite awhile ago, which i really i liked a lot.. from there i went through a few different phones over the next few years.. i believe it was a sidekick lx..then to an iphone 3g.. i ended up recently selling my iphone cause i just got sick of the virtual keyboard and wanted to go back to something with a qwerty.. so ive been looking around.. im on att and ive browsed a couple of their... What phones have you used in the past? Do you have experience with either OS? i think the only thing holding me back from the 8900 is the absence of 3g.. What are you looking for in the two devices? right after i posted a similar thread.. i scrolled down and i saw yours!im in the same predicament as you, im not sure if i should get the 8900 or the E71.....the two things i debate the most between the two is the lack of 3g in the 8900 and S60 platform that the E71 uses.. I'm debating between getting an unlocked BLACKBERRY 8900 or the NOKIA E71..if i get the 8900, im getting a great phone.. but no 3g.. if i get the E71 .. getting a great phone as well but not too sure about the S60 platform that it uses.. kinda stuck on what to get.. if anyone can help me out and persuade me in the right direction.. it would be greatly appreciated i think that since both of these have become extremely popular they should be put into a dogfight both because i want to know what phone to get and because both phones are having remakes made (e63 and the niagra) and there are very few reviews that put these to phones up against each other to see the similarities and differences have to say te ipaq 910 aint tht good but the e71 is Buying choicesWith new service This item is not being sold with a service plan by any online merchant.
