Noah Answers Your Questions - Helio Ocean or Samsung Instinct?

Q. I am looking at new phones and my problem is this: Which do you rate higher, the Helio Ocean or the Sprint instinct?  (I'm not switching to another GSM network for other reasons, so iPhone is o-u-t)  (I know Sprint and Helio use SK, so calling should be the same, right?)

Also, are there any other phones you'd recommend on Sprint that may be better than the Ocean (I'll be using it mainly for multimedia, email, web, txt, video/pics (taken on the phone), and navigation ((note: I'll be using these features ALOT=multiple times a day)))

So, can you help me out?

A. You should have the same signal strength and data coverage on Sprint as on Helio, yes - Helio leases network space from Sprint, so it's basically the same network.  If you go with Helio beware - Helio just got bought out and may be closing its doors before too long.

The big difference between Ocean and Instinct is that Ocean has two physical keyboards - one for dialing and a second for QWERTY - while Instinct is a touchscreen-only phone.  Also, Instinct's screen is much larger.  Beyond that, each offers some unique (and very good) features:  Ocean has integrated search from the Home screen and several cool social networking features, while Instinct has tons of multimedia offerings and an excellent GPS and Live Search system.

They're both great devices - I think the difference comes down to how much you want the physical buttons.  Instinct has a pretty good touchscreen, but if you send a lot of messages you might like Ocean's QWERTY board better.  Also, Ocean is smaller and thicker, while Instinct is bigger and thinner.

You might want to check out the BlackBerry Curve, since it combines a real QWERTY board with a pretty good camera and multimedia player.  It's not as fun and flashy as either the Ocean or Instinct, but it really works well - especially for messaging.  RIM is also preparing a bunch of new BlackBerry devices (Bold, Javelin, Thunder) but they're not quite out yet.

The other Sprint phone I'd recommend isn't out yet -- I'm pretty certain that they'll be releasing the HTC Touch Pro and/or Touch Diamond later this Summer or Fall.  These are both Windows Mobile devices, and will replace the Mogul (Touch Pro) and Touch (Touch Diamond) in Sprint's lineup.  While I'm not a big Windows Mobile fan, I reviewed Mogul awhile back and thought it was excellent.  Touch Pro should be even better - QWERTY, camera, full smartphone & Web support, and a new user interface.

Noah Answers Your Questions - N95, Instinct, or enV2?

Q. hey first off I would like to say awesome reviews on youtube. Ive been looking at three phones to buy; Nokia N95, samsung instinct and the lg keybo(env2). I am looking for a good internet phone with an awesome mp3 player and easy to text. Do u have any suggestions? A. Thanks for the kind words - glad you like the reviews!  Since you said "Easy to text" I have to ask if you like to use T9 or full QWERTY to text.  If you like full...

Noah Answers Your Questions - T9 on the Instinct?

Q. Noah, you have very informative videos and think that you are great at your job. I have a question about Sprint's Samsung Instinct. I am fairly efficient with a QWERTY keypad, but I am so much faster on a T9 layout. Is the Samsung Instinct capable of a T9 text entry? I noticed in your YouTube video "Sprint Samsung Instinct vs LG Vu vs iPhone - Long Version " that when you entered the number to text (right past the 10:00 mark), the numbers had...

Noah Answers Your Questions - What is over the air downloading?

Q. In your instinct vs iphone comparison you said with the Instinct you can download 'over the air' and the iphone you cannot. what does that mean and what does it mean to me in a practical sense? Also, what other limitations would this feature, or lack of the feature, cause? A. Over the Air downloading means that you can purchase and download songs and video directly to the phone using your cellular connection.  Apple limits iPhones to...

Noah Answers Your Questions - Comparing the LG Dare & Samsung Instinct

Q. Hi, I saw your comparisons of the LG Dare and Samsung Instinct and I had some more questions about the two. I have some specific questions for the two phones that I'd like some answers to 1. Which touchscreen is better? Which is more responsive? When you're typing which screen works better?  I've heard ppl vouch for both sides so I'd like a good extensive opinion from an actual reviewer. 2. Which browser is better? Because I've...

Noah Answers Your Questions - Instinct video feature

Q. Hey Noah, just got a question for you about the Instinct. Sprit mentions on there site that you can see movies on the phone when side loaded in a Micro SD card and I was just wondering what the quality of this feature is and how does it work? A. Thanks for the message.  In one of my Instinct videos I showed a video that was loaded onto a microSD card and played back on the phone.  It works great - if you have a good quality...
Noah Answers Your Questions - Can the Instinct go on YouTube?

Noah Answers Your Questions - Can the Instinct go on YouTube?

Yes, you can go on YouTube on the Instinct.  It connects to YouTube mobile and then uses Instinct's media player to playback the videos.  It's not the same as iPhone's custom YouTube app, but it works just fine.

    Mini-Review: BlackBerry 8220

The first ever flip BlackBerry is a winner, so long as you play to its strengths.  While the 8220 is very large for a modern day flip phone, it's lightweight and slick looking enough to trick you into thinking it's a little smaller than it really is.  I've had the 8220 for just under a week now, and I very quickly grew used to carrying it around in my pocket.  No, it's not as thin as a RAZR or as small as a low-end sliderphone,...

Hey, look what just came!  Thanks, Vanessa ;-)  Here are some photos of the black LG Lotus for Sprint.  The QWERTY board feels GREAT so far, as those bubbled chiclet-style keys make up for the relatively small size of the layout.  Sprint's new One Click UI is sort of cool and helpful and sort of overdone; I'll have to play with it more, but I hope it winds up being handier more often than it gets in the way.  And I'm...

First off, how cool is it that HTC dropped some significant cell phone news on the blogosphere via Twitter the other day?  I'm not saying Twitter itself is/isn't cool, but rather that it's neat to see a tech company innovate when it comes to communicating with the media.  Particularly so a tech company that uses the word "Innovation" in their marketing materials.
