Samsung Instinct-M800 Cell Phone
What’s Good: Supports every feature Sprint offers; EV-DO Rev. A data speeds; Good touchscreen response; Bright, clear display; Excellent GPS/navigation and voice command features; Good visual voicemail feature; 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo Bluetooth; Second battery included in packaging; Excellent value at $129 retail price
What’s Not Good: “Full HTML” Web browser is disappointing; No IM support; No calendar synching; No support for user-created ringtones or background images on menu screens; No phone as modem support on mandatory Simply Everything plan
Bottom Line: Sprint’s new flagship media phone is a very good device, even if I wish they’d skipped the whole “Instinct vs iPhone” marketing campaign. The Web browser needs work and mobile IM addicts will be left in the cold by Instinct, but otherwise Instinct offers solid support across a huge variety of features and excellent implementation of GPS-based navigation and voice activated commands in particular. Though plans start at a hefty $70/mo, if you use the unlimited data, navigation, and Sprint TV it’s actually a good value. And you can’t beat the $129 price tag.

Another Internet speed test pitting four 3G phones against one another. The takeaway? 3G coverage is lousy in Oakland. Or ... Noah has no idea what he's doing. Noah puts Instinct and iPhone 3G head-to-head in a Web and speed battle. First is a raw download speed test, and then a few Web page load tests. Who won? Watch the video and find out ... Two of the Summer's hottest touchscreen phones go head to head. LG Dare for Verizon vs Samsung Instinct for Sprint: Who reigns supreme? One last Instinct video covering GPS, Visual Voicemail, and the Calendar. Overall it's a really solid phone. And at $129? Best value goin' for Sprint customers wanting a high-end device. Too bad there's no calendar synching, though. Three hot touchscreen phones - which one's right for you? This is the loooong version of a head to head to head between Instinct, Vu, and iPhone. Tom, our noble leader and Top Dog, tipped us Editors off late last night to a forum post by which all other forum posts should be judged. So long as you're not a stickler for grammar and punctuation, that is ;-)Seriously, PhoneDog reader "elserg" went above and beyond in outlining the happy dilemma facing Sprint customers this holiday season. With all of these super tricked out smartphones supposedly ready to launch, which one should he... When we first received rumors of the Samsung instinct "Mini," it was assumed that the phone was going to enter the market as a smaller version of the popular touchscreen device. Based on the latest pictures, it now appears (and is assumed) that the Instinct S30 will be replacing the original phone. Sporting a design refresh with rounded edges, many of the specific features aren't known as of yet - however we stand behind our original... Some photos of the rumored Samsung "Instinct Mini" hit the Web today, and I figured instead of just regurgitating the Insinct Mini rumor you've probably read in four other places by now, I'd also give you a run-down of all of the Sprint-related rumors du jour. Yeah, yeah, I'll show you the Instinct Mini pics, too. Sprintusers' user "phonetec" posted four photos allegedly taken by him/her (with a BlackBerry Curve, if you... It's that time of year ... No, not Christmas, Hanukkah, or Winter Solstice time ... It's year-end awards time! The PhoneDog Editors will be selecting our personal Phone of the Year favorites over the coming weeks, but we're more interested in what you have to say.
Last but certainly not least is Sprint. When they weren't busy launching their Xohm WiMax network, Sprint put a ton of marketing muscle behind the Samsung Instinct. ... Great news, Instinct fans - or so it would seem. Opera Software has
announced the availability of Opera Mini 4.2, the free, junior version
of their excellent Opera Mobile Web browsing software. And it works on
Instinct!According to the press release: Opera is also
announcing today that people using the Sprint Instinct can upgrade
their firmware and download Opera Mini, find out how here: http://www.opera.com/mini...
great... Has anyone out there upgraded their Samsung Instinct to the latest firmware rev.? I got a few reports that Sprint and Samsung have unleashed a new version that focuses on the Web browser. Sounds like there might just be a full screen option (mapped to the Voice Command button) as well as general speed and stability improvements.Got an Instinct? Upgraded it? Hit the Web and let us know how it is! Pros: none...but the looks Cons: everthing! Summary: i had this phone for a while , when i first got i was hype. and thats all it is "hype". the phone didnt even work properly...since i got it it been given me problems i been thru 4 since november already.....thinkin bout gettin a G1(android)??? 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful Pros: I love this phone! It has very good response. You can adjust the sensitivity for the screen and calibrate it. Texting and typing is sooo fast. Really good conection. When my friends dont get service, i get it crystal clear. Sprint has the best and cheepest plans. I haven't had a single dropped call and i had this phone for about 7 months. It has several neat options that you can toggle on or off. This phone is very durable. It fell out of my poket millions of times and it doesn't have a scratch Cons: The camera could have been a little better with maybe 3 instead of 2 mega pixels. It will rarely lag or freeze a little bit. Since it is a fairly new phone and design, some games or apps are not compatible but there is still a large selection. Summary: Very fast and durable. A very customizable phone but they should make more accesories for it. Plans are the best and cheepest. Still pretty much the best phone out. It is very competitvely priced. Recomend this to almost anyone! 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful Pros: The phone has many features which are eye catchers, but useful only when, rarely, there are no better alternatives. Navigation is the exception and is excellent. Nice selection of ringtones. Television is fine given current technology, but still not where is should be (it wouldn't be tolerated from a real television). Frequent automatic server backup of basic contact data. The phone has a "substantial" feel. Two batteries. Cons: The phone is constantly updating something, which sounds good if you don't happen to need to, say, make a call when this happens. If one of the many features is being used and a phone call comes in, the phone, then, will completely lock up and the battery must be removed for the phone to again work properly (very frustrating, over and over). The display keyboard is difficult to use without tiny fingers or without a stylus...don't lose the ONE provided. Summary: This phone is more gimmick than useful. Looks nicer than most and is poised against the Iphone and the Gphone; it pales except with the navigation feature which is very impressive. Email feature, too, is quite good, but the phone needs to be reset (remove battery; is this why we get two batteries?) occasionally when this feature, among others, stop updating. I think I can live with this phone, but I am not sure it would be my first choice now that I have used it for over 3 months. If I lost it, I would buy a different phone. I probably would not comfortably recommend this phone to a friend. For a two year contract I would tell the friend to either wait or keep looking at other phones. 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful Pros: The phone is amazing the text works great camera is good, internet is pretty fast, everything works great on it, the phone looks and feels good too Cons: The GPS freezes sometimes which could be pretty bad if you dont know exactly where your going, the phone has froze on me once or twice Summary: Overall the phone is great just a few glitches here and there but thats going to happen with any phone 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful Pros: The touch screen, the network is blazing fast, the many features, incredible gps..the sound is lod.. the list goes on Cons: The camera is funny.. every time i take a pic it says fuzzy picture warning.. maybye its a good thing? Summary: Its a great phone it has every thing u need for a touch screen phone and mpre, the tv is cool, all the features are great music player and every thing is good 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful All Samsung Instinct-M800 user reviewshello my Question is can i put some of my itunes on to my verizon barrage? i have a big library of itunes on my mac book? I dont want to spend anymore money then i have to please help. i have multipul removable storage files. i dont know which one to click. then how do they get transfered to my phone after iv put the music in the file The S30 runs on EV-DO Rev. B which is slower for data speeds than Rev. A. This is CDMA speak for "3G," which is the commonly used term for GSM carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T.
The S39 was meant to introduce Sprint users to touch screen phones that haven't had one before, hence its initial low price. The M800 (original Instinct) is meant to actually be a "higher end" Instinct, but probably only by virtue of the fact that they continued to... My contract for my phone is ending soon and im thinking about getting either one of these phones, the regular instinct comes with more accesories such as a second battery, a portable charger, phone case, and a 2 gb memory card included in the purchase, however i dont know much about the other phone if there are any tips on either of these phones please comment. Also tell me if there are problems with them, Thank you very much & please post... I own an instinct right now, and i changed from a blackberry curve to it. In my own opinion if you want a good calander for appointments get the Curve. If you want good games, get the curve, the instinct basically has none. Texting on both is about the same. If you are going to email get the Curve because the instinct lags when a message becomes greater than 300 chracters. Battery life is better on my instinct and it came with the extra battery,... definately go for the instinct i dropped mine and there is a fairly noticeable scratch on the top but thats it im going to get a case for it and then put the inviseble shield on it but its definately my best phone I have ever bought.. I just discovered this while playing with the Instinct. While on a webpage, you can use the entire screen to display the webpage by pressing the 'press to talk' button on the top of the screen edge. Each press will toggle the full screen vs regular websize screen.
Also, instead of using your finger to scroll the webpage up, down, left or right you can press the photo button (this will display an icon in the upper right corner of the screen with... hey guys umm on the samsung instinct for sprint; when you go to the web browser instead of moving the screen with your finger you can move the phone in any direction and it moves the screen without you touching it oh well thanks for letting me share. And if u download the opera browser 4.2 into yo' INSTINCT then it will be jus like the computer and every other phone w/o a FLASH, but yeah i would still consider the HTC TOUCH PRO ay the phone is pretty good wit the addition of the opera browser 4.2, but really if u think about it no phone really has instant messagin, it's rare on these up to date touch screen phones Buying choicesWith new service This item is not being sold with a service plan by any online merchant.
