Samsung Moment Cell Phone
Here she is; Sprint's vanilla Android alternative to the Hero. With a full hardware QWERTY, an 800 MHz processor, and a luscious AMOLED display, I'd say Moment is a good contender. I'll be passing this one along to Noah very soon so stay tuned to PhoneDog for his coverage. I just might have one turn up for review over at DroidDog as well, so be sure to check in. The Samsung Moment announcement was yesterday, but due to the crowded nature of the actual event, the hands-on footage was rushed. Fortunately, we met with Sprint executives who gave us a personal tour of the device and its capabilities. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! Samsung announces their first U.S. Android device, the Moment. It even has Pac-Man! Verizon jumped into the Android game with both feet last Friday, selling the much hyped Motorola Droid and its more-than-capable little Sis, the HTC Droid Eris in stores across the nation. With the US' number one wireless carrier now selling phones built around Google's Android OS, the platform is poised for a big uptick in mass consumer adoption. Heck, AT&T might even start carrying a Google phone before too long.
We want to take you on a... In contrast to hyped-out lead-up to the Verizon/Moto Droid, Sprint’s Samsung Moment kind of slid in and had a fairly quiet debut over the weekend. This was the phone that the booth babes at CTIA wouldn’t let us hold. They were under strict orders not to lift their paws off the handset, and actually let us bloggers hold it. I know — At this point, it’s all moot. Everyone can put their hands on it now, as Sprint officially... Sprint went ahead and formally announced the Samsung Moment, an Android OS phone powered by an 800 MHz processor and featuring a side-sliding QWERTY board and 3.2" AMOLED touchscreen. Moment will be available from Sprint November 1st for $179.99 with a two-year contract and after a $100 rebate.
And yes, Moment will support Pac-Man. Seriously, it was in the media kit. I love Pac-Man. Not as much as Galaga, but still.

UPDATE: Sprint just made it official. Available November 1 for $179.99 after rebate, on contract. Specs coming soon!
So Samsung's got a press conference scheduled for 11 AM Pacific time at CTIA today in San Diego. They've hyped the event to journalists as all kinds of really important. We're all pretty sure they'll be using the time to unveil what leakers have been calling "Insinct Q," their upcoming Android OS device set to launch on... The Samsung Moment is an Android capacitive touchscreen device with full QWERTY slide-out keyboard. Other key features include Wi-Fi, 3.2MP camera, accelerometer and proximity sensor, advanced stereo Bluetooth technology, and GPS capable. We will update specs and upload high res. images when made available.
The device is currently exclusive for Sprint and will be... Pros: Easy Texting on both physical keyboard and on screen. There are apps to download for free that can fix almost any problem with the software in the phone.Astounding screen clarity. Browses the web as good as a mac book. WIFI allows you to browse internet even faster and save a bit of battery. Cons: Battery life is short until good apps are downloaded and GPS and other aspects turned off. Does not have external alert for text messages. Summary: I purchased this phone two weeks ago after debating between the HTC Hero and the Moment ( much like everyone else). So i decided not to come to a final decision til i had hands on experience with both in the store. After messing with both i came to the conclusion that they were relatively the same.It just seemed the Moment was much faster at browsing the web and better to text with. Seeing as i mostly text and browse the web it was a no brainer for me. I quickly discovered that battery life drained on this phone faster then any phone ive ever seen. So i turned off the wifi and GPS on it and a few other things and now it can go a day without charging at all. The only major flaw with this phone is that when the screen is locked, when i receive a text it rings but there is no external display meaning, if I dont hear it, then i wont know i have a text until i just got to "messages". Thats a big problem with me since i listen to my Ipod alot. Other then that, I'd have to say this is almost the perfect phone for the casual uses of texting and web browsing and other typical aspects of phones. I honestly believe this is an amazing phone for anyone no matter what their main use for their phone is. I say that because i cannot find a flaw that prevents the full use of every feature of the phone. Pros: Display, number line on keyboard, responsive overall, D pad Cons: Vibrate seems weak, learning curve for keyboard, rotate quirk, initial setup Summary: I've only had the phone a few hours, but so far I think I'm going to like it. The display is very nice, bright & clear. The D pad is useful for negotiating crowded links in webpages. The touchscreen seems responsive, with smooth resulting actions. I like having dedicated numbers on the keyboard, as I find I type numbers quite often (I'm an engineer). A concern I have is that the notification vibrate seems short & weak. This doesn't seem to be adjustable, and I'm not sure it's going to be noticeable enough for meeting reminders. I thought I was getting used to the keyboard, but I found I was typing b's instead of spaces. I think I'll adjust to it (I previously had an Alias with a tiny keyboard). The portrait to landscape rotate works well in applications, but I don't know why it doesn't work on the home screen--only sliding out the keyboard brings up landscape mode on the home screens. Another concern is a little bit of movement between the screen and keyboard when it is slid all the way out. It's minor and probably inevitable with a slider. I had some issues initially setting up the device. I had to wait a couple of hours for my number to be ported from Verizon, so I didn't setup the phone at the Sprint store. I stumbled through it. Google kept giving me password errors, but my gmail contacts & calendar finally ended up syncing. Now they are working fine. I've messed around in the apps store a little bit. Apps are quick & easy to download. I've found a few that my friend's iPhone has and searched for a few that aren't out there. From my brief experience I would say this phone looks promising. I can't comment on battery life yet. I've been playing with it a lot, but the battery indicator movement is giving me some concern. I'll provide an update if my opinion changes. 4 out of 4 people found this review helpful All Samsung Moment user reviewswill the samsung moment for sprint be running the new android 2.0 anytime soon? or is it already being shipped with it? or if its being shipped with 1.5 still, is there an upgrade either OTA or online? It is not multi touch but a kick butt device. I have had all three and though I miss my BB i cant possibly go back. Android OS is amazing The Moment is multi-touch Sense UI on the Hero probably eats up all of that extra memory, making it a non-issue. you should go for the hero its just a better phone, it doesnt lag unless your running a crap load of stuff . i played with the moment, screen is nice and it is noticably faster but not deal breaking and i guess once you go sense you dont go back (to vanilla that is) I'm still deciding - but I have time.I'm a long-time Palm user: have been using the Treo series for several years so the Pre seems like the natural progression.OTOH, my personal "stuff" is all handled by google (voice, mail, etc) - so an Android-based phone makes better sense.I'm buying a new phone in December or January; we'll see what Sprint has to offer in a couple of months. Well I have had the moment for about a 10 days now and for the most part I like it. the key board is so much better than the pre. I wish the phone were not so bulky but I guess you can only cram so much into that size of a phone and this phone is loaded. I like the size of the hero. There does not seem to be many accessories like a case that is made for it. The worst thing about the moment is that the battery life is awful, or there may be a... I'm trying to decide which phone to get. I like the fact that the moment has a nicer screen and faster processor.
but I'm not sure if it is a better phone than the hero. Can someone explain if below is true and if one is better then the other.
I found this on the BestBuy site.
The moment supports CDMA 850, 1900
The Hero supports CDMA 800, 900,1900, 2000, 2100
What is the difference and is one needed over the other.
I also... I'm afraid youdidn't, I went for the Samsung Moment and I'm loving it!!!I've been playing with one of my co-worker's Hero for a few days and I was convinced that was the phone I wanted, but I went to a Sprint store yesterday and held the Moment and the Hero side by side and compared most features, and I liked the Moment a lot better than the Hero. The screen is brighter and the colors look more vivid, my wife immediately noticed it without me... The Tour has a poor keyboard in my opinion, the keys are not really spaced and it is easy to hit the wrong button. I currently have the Hero and it eats battery like a beast. It can become laggy at times and I do miss having a hardware keyboard. I have been having problems with the Heros email client and so I believe I will be getting the Moment since it has an actual keyboard for when I get frustrated with with the touchscreen.

I currently have an old smartphone with a touchscreen, syncs with my outlook and is windows based. I'd like a good camera and camcorder if possible, and other extras but need need a phone that will sync my 2outlook calendars with ease and is intuitive like the iphone. The Hero or wait for the Moment?
