Sharp T-Mobile Sidekick Cell Phone
Ryan goes hands on with the newest Sidekick for T-Mobile & has to figure out how to use the trackball. Unboxing the brand-new Sidekick - the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008. It's not called the "Gekko" after all, but it does feature interchangeable shells that let you customize the look. This new Sidekick also has a 2MP camera with video capture, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and lots more worth checking out. Since we can’t actively cover every news article that breaks (as

Do you ever want to select text and do things with it like you do one your computer? To highlight text on a sidekick, hold shift and use the trackball or d-pad to select text. Then, you can use all the same codes you use on your computer to edit text on your sidekick. for example, press menu (3 lines) and C at the same time to copy, or v to paste. Even Z to undo! its great! Pros: Full Keyboard Great Text Messaging 2.0 Megapixel Camera Video Camera E-mail that uses YOUR accounts AIM, MSN, & Yahoo Instant Messaging Downloads Cons: Hard to dial a simple number Voice sound not that great. Kinda heavy. Deinitely not for people with huge fingers. Summary: Voice calls - The sound on this phone isn't great. Usually I just switch to speakerphone and that solves my problem but I have missed a few details in a conversation once or twice and I do ask people to speak up. But I don't talk on the phone that much so it isn't a big deal to me at all. Dialing a number isn't easy. Either you have to flip it open and use the keyboard (which the number and letters are arranged exactly like a computer keyboard) or use the ball to navigate around a number pad provided on the screen (which takes some definite getting used to). Getting to recent and missed calls are pretty accessible. Also the phone book is easily accessed. Text/Picture Messaging - This feature is excellent on this phone. You can send and receive text and picture messages easily. The keyboard lights up so the dark isn't a problem. Whenever you receive a message you have a button at the bottom to "call back" and I like that because if it's important and I would rather speak to them then looking through my phone book isn't something I need to do. All in all it seems like basic texting because after all how fancy can you get with sending a text message? But I really like the keyboard so I really like the texting. E-mail - I honestly didn't think I would use this feature but I came to find I really do love it. With this phone you are able to add your own E-mail account that you use everyday whether it be AOL, Yahoo, Gmail, Comcast, BellSouth, Earthlink, etc. and I really like that. Also a Tmail (T-Mobile's own e-mail service) comes installed on the phone. The only problem is addresses. There isn't an e-mail address book. Although you can add people's e-mail address into the phone book and then use that to keep track, I would prefer keeping e-mail addresses and phone number seperate. But hey, nothing is perfect. Web - THe browser on this phone isn't all that amazing. You can type any URL into it but it loads with the whole page as if on a computer so unless you zoom in and navigate around using the ball you can't really do much. You can't stream music or watch videos which is a downer. But I mainly use mine to check facebook, myspace, and craigslist and they're perfectly accessible on this phone. THey have lots of bookmarks installed that range from facebook, to A-Z lyrics, E! Online, google, Mapquest, MSNBC Mobile, Yahoo! Mobile Weather, DHL: Track details, Ebay, ESPN Mobile, and lots more which I thought was pretty cool. And most of those are produced into "mobile" web pages which make it easier to view and navigate around on a mobile phone. So the browser is cool, but not something I would go out and by the phone for. Music player - You can add music or videos too it and the phone comes with a memory card so you can hold lots and lots of media. It's a little tricky to figure out what button does what on the music player but it has good sound and I love that I can plug the audio cable from my car into it. 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful Pros: the buttons are small but not to small, the screen resolution is good, 3.5mm headphone jack, 2mp camera, light, the shell that you can make on the website, at home, or that are pre-made are actually really durable, the actual phone can take a few drops(dont know from personal experience but i see my friend drop hers a lot) you don't have to take out the battery to take out the micro sd card from it, of course back light board. customizable volumes. and lastly the track ball lights up when in sle Cons: have to take off the case to actually get to the micro sd card. no flash Summary: overall this phone is amazing! i got it for christmas and its still working like new. i already made two shells and they are high quality. if you put a picture its pretty cool. Pros: I love it my mom got it for me - my BFF!!! LOL Cons: Its Big and heavey than other phones you can't text during class with its size Summary: I love it so so so so so much I would recomend it ages 10+ and great for kids with busy lifes or adult and teen who love to chat and text it woul dbe the perfect one for any age really 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful Pros: The new sidekick is better than ever, it's light weight, thinner, more custimizable, better camera, awsome resolution, costs less than the LX. Cons: Voice quality is ok but not the best. Summary: I think this phone is amazing, better camera, better look, and way modern. 6 out of 11 people found this review helpful Pros: Screen - QVGA Camera - 2MP Shells - Customization in a snap! Sound quality is good but not great... Cons: Sound quality was not the best Media player feels clunky Few glitches such as keyboard sounds not always active... will be fixed in update im sure. Summary: Overall I love this new addition to the sidekick family. Its lighter than the others and much smaller. The ability to customize the shells through sidekickshells.com is amazing and offers customization that makes your phone you and fits your personality. Overall a great upgrade for anyone with SK3/Slide/LX. Not a big enough upgrade for LX users or Slide users but its there if you got the money for it. Voice quality gets a Very Good b/c not many problems with it and its clear just not crystal clear. 0 out of 3 people found this review helpful All Sharp T-Mobile Sidekick user reviewsthe 08 has video recording and the lx donent definitely go with the sidekick over the gravity...i'd get the 2008 over the lx, lx is big and clunky but the 2008/lx both function basically the same, but whatever you do, do NOT get the gravity bad news phonekid the sidekick lx 09 is coming out this month as well as the g2 shortly afterwards
g1: wait g2 coming very soon unless you like slide qwerty like me
sidekick: absolutely must wait the sidekcik lx 09 is awesome and coming middle of april
Behold: a decent touch screen phone with a nice camera and many entry level features
Verdict: Wait and test out the g2 and sidekick lx 2009 or if you really need a phone get the behold which is better i have the gravity which works great and my sister has the sidekick 2008 which is also great.but which is better??? please right back. the sidekick 08 is great i switched to the g1 non stop freezing but i got my sidekick back and thats the best thing thats ever happened to me Coming from a sidekick 3, I'm looking for a phone with a decent camera, a good qwerty keyboard, wifi connectivity and just a profesional looking phone
I've been looking at the curve 8900 and I was wondering if that phone could be a good phone for me? I like the keyboard and that it has wifi and the 3.2 camera. But I've never had a blackberry. And that's what bothers me. I heard they are great but I think it's going to be a big change and I... 1. a new sidekick is coming out so if you really want it you may want to check it out
2. the gravity is pretty nice but the new sidekick is also, it will come out soon
the HTC touch pro is a good choice if you want the touchscreen
the HTC S743 is good if you don't need the touch screen
if you don't want a smart phone, you could get the sidekick and unlock it, or look around
hope that helps :D
I've been using the touch pro for a while now, I really like it.
Once you get used to the QWERTY, you can text really fast. Touch-FLO 3D makes Win-Mo much much easier to use.
