Walkmen and a modem: SE announces K660, W890, and W380 phones and MD300 USB modem

Sony Ericsson dropped two new pieces of gear on its North American faithful today, along with a few higher end handsets with quad band GSM support (but no US-spec 3G bands) should you care to import them for use in the US.  SE also talked about their "vision for convergence of mobile content and services," kind of like everyone else has been doing as of late.  But on to the gear... The W380 is a Walkman phone built around a...

Sony Ericsson to launch three new handsets this Tuesday?

Sony Ericsson is reportedly announcing three new handsets starting this Tuesday. The W380i, W890i and K660i are all a welcomed additions to Sony’s already impressive line-up of phones. The W380i which replaces the W300 is on the lower end of the feature rich spectrum, but still adds “gesture-based control” which allows the user to change song selection by shaking the phone side to side. Next we have the W890i which replaces the W880i adding a...

    Mini-review: Pantech Matrix

Pros: 3G, full QWERTY,  total messaging package, good value, feels tough. Cons: GPS isn't free, it's pretty thick. I'm loving the selection of messaging devices this season: Propel, Gravity, Slate, Quickfire, Rant, and Matrix are a few off the top of my head, but I know there are more out there. If you're heavy on text and into the novelty of experimental form factors, the Matrix should be at the top of your list. The C740 is an updated...

    Bluetooth etiquette

Those of you who follow Noah's Bark and phonedogTV know that kravvykrav has had his share of dangerously close encounters with people who talk on the phone while driving. Most of us have had similar experiences, and the rest have at least been annoyed. Even when using bluetooth, there are activities that just don't mix with phone calls. Some are risky, some are funny, and some are just plain rude. When you're in the driver's seat, leave...

What I dislike about the G1

What I dislike about the G1

I don't want to kill anyone's Black Friday shopping buzz, or discourage you from buying the G1 as a holiday gift. But I have dedicated a lot of posts to pointing out the benefits of this phone, and it's operating system, Android. I think it's time that I cover some negative aspects of the device. Most design problems become apparent over time, and may not be recognizable during an in-store test. They're not the kind of thing you want to be...

    Double up deals from AT&T

AT&T has a "two for the price of one" sale going on the Pantech Matrix and Samsung Propel this Thanksgiving, and it will be in effect at least until Sunday. It's kind of a messy deal. You have to sign a contract and pay $129.99 for the first device, but you'll get a $50 rebate in the mail. Still, it's a cool way to get messaging devices into the hands of couples. A worker at a local AT&T kiosk told me last night that he was doing a...
