Dogfight! HTC HD2 vs. Google Nexus One - Part 1

I was convinced going into the that I would spend most of the dogfight talking about how great the Nexus One is. But with Sense, the HD 2 has plenty to offer.

For most of the video John only complains about windows mobile ui an that was annoying. Noah please!

With all do respect to John, I think Noah should have done the dogfight. That video was just useless to put out there for viewers to see and weigh options between two phones. It doesn't take a died hard android nor windows mobile fan to understand my point of view. That didn't even seem to be a dogfight. John mostly said good things about the N1. How can you do a dogfight between to phones when you know less about the other?...I'm no windows mobile fan but a great android fan, but seriously, before releasing this video to be viewed by gadget lovers, you should've reviewed it and edited things that should've been edited. Nonetheless, thanks for putting it out.

I agree. John admittedly states that he has a bias against HD2 being that it runs win mobile. It's obvious that he knows nothing about it's functionality and makes lame points like how nice the weather front end looks as opposed to the fact he wasn't looking at the right settings section that he complained about. Big fail on this dogfight.
Noah would've given a better comparison given that he's not a big fan of either os.

I really want to like android, but I want the simple ability to go to a web address without the use of google search. All of my win mo phones have had a version of pocket explorer that acted like a web browser that actually has an address bar. If Android can't do this, what else can't it do that win mo can? Hopefully Microsoft doesn't jump on this iphone user mentality bandwagon. If they do, please keep win mo the way it has functionality and give the graphic whores their zune phone as a separate line.

Um, it does have an address bar, the default homepage is google.com. What are you talking about?

Android has a normal browser. I'm using it now. No need to go through google. Although google does have a nice "mobilize " service that formats a page for a mobile device, but its use is optional.

google.com is not an address bar. It is a search site similar to yahoo, bing etc. google.com will not find my ftp site since it's not on their search library. But a real broswer would take me to my ftp just by typinging in it's ftp address. All of my win mo and symbian devices can, why can't andriod or iphone without an ftp app?

@ IanKen. show me how to get to my ftp via android's browser. I've been looking for a way to do so but it keeps bringing me to google's search site saying site not found.

My Nexus One is the Boom Boom POW! But I'm definitely getting the HD2 as a second phone to carry around, looks slick even without my beloved Android.

I like this battle, not because I am considering the N1, but because you gave me a good look at the size of the HD2. I am getting that phone when it comes out in April (predicted availability at T-Mobile). And it was great to see the displays compared.

The N1 has the same size display as my old Touch Pro2. So I know what it is, but seeing it next to the HD2 helps cement my decision to get the HD2. (I said "old" TP2 because I sold it in anticipation of getting the HD2.)

Bonus Smack: Would it have killed you to wipe off the fingerprints before doing the review? I know that made for some good drama when saying "these screens are fingerprint magnets," but we all know that.

I would have liked to see the HD2 with its beautiful large display without evidence that you have a bucket of KFC chicken just to the right of the shot.

if you'd payed attention, those finger print marks are being left during the comparison. he would have to wipe the phone every time he touched it.

Ripato... I see that now and stand corrected on the fingerprints, but the bath towel, it still has to go.

Indeed! towels are for drying. not for background

I do reviews on YouTube, personal stuff, nothing big. But even I would NEVER use a bath towel as a background for device reviews.

Well at least you made sure the towel was clean. LOL.

(You are right, the animated weather is the best feature of the HTC Sense user interface/shell. You can see my demos on YouTube, check under YouTuber: heartinsanfrancisco

Bonus tip: For an OK "tech" background in an emergency, use the top of your notebook computer, assuming it's black. Or you can use a notebook case / carry bag's large flat surface.

There's lots of things you can use other than a bath towel, sheet or carpet.

Helps if you can tell the difference between HTC Sense and Windows mobile settings before you expertly comment lol. I guess you missed that tab on the Hero as well and blamed it on Windows Mobile ... LMAO
