Rev-A speeds are not slow, I average 900Kbps to 1.9Mbps down at home, every airport I have been to I average at least 1.2Mbps to 3Mbps down whereas wifi is so over utilized average speeds are 200Kbps to 300Kbps down. It's the same for most hotspots. Also, even if your are able to update you still won't have 3G on your iphone, 3G is the radio not software, other words you have to by a new device. Do you know why Att and Tmo tout wifi on their phones? Att and Tmo's edge networks are snail slow. Wifi is so over utilized the ave down speed is 200-300Kbps, I ave 900Kbps on Sprint Rev-A.
