This is a good day. As bad as it may sound to Aussies, I'm happy to announce that the Hero has been rooted. What does this mean? It means the phone can now be over-clocked (see comment by enlightener), apps can be run from the SD card, swap space can be run from the SD card, and a wide selection of apps that require administrator privileges can now be run on the phone. As it has for the Dream and Magic, a new world is opening up for the Hero. Your Hero too sluggish? It runs at 384 MHz with 528 MHz under the hood!

Other performance tweaks would still be possible, but I figure this is an accurate comment.
I couldn't find information on actual processor performance and figured it was the same as Dream/Magic.
Thank you for your comment, enlightener. I'll edit the post.
How does the rooting effect the lag problem the Hero has? (as Mentioned in the video Dogfight HTC Hero vs. iPhone 3Gs) Is the lag gone or still present?
I don't have a Hero to test, and if I did...I'm not sure I would. It's risky.
As far as I know, by wm-devices it is possible.. But I'm new to Android, and very interested! :D
Technically, I'm pretty sure doing this stuff is always a violation of *something.* (If I had gotten straighter, more consistent answers from T-Mo, I'd tell you what they were.)
Bottom line is that it's at your own, substantial, risk.
Also to everyone else. Rooting can mess up your phone bad if don't know what your doing. You must read A LOT before even trying this id say
