Saturday, August 02, 2008Just to clarify - When on a 3G network you are provided a service. For example, Voice, 128k data, 384k data, HSDPA etc. So customer X can have a voice plan and be allowed to use data up to 128k. If customer X wants to pay more then a service is authorized lets say at 384k. So, T-Mobile has launched a voice centric 3G network in NYC at this time. Therefore your speed test is limited to the account's authorized data speed. They are still in the process of optimizing their network and until you see data plans being marketed that service will be restricted. If comparing apples to apples here, given the fact that ATT has more customers then theoretically T-Mo will win since their network would be less loaded (since it is new) ATT has had 3G launched and optimized already. Therefore of course their network will be faster. Look for more T-Mobile 3G by Christmas to stuff your stockings. In the end, 3G is 3G and your data rate will be relative to the signal quality on your phone. You must be near a site and in an optimized network to get good throughput for ATT, for T-Mo or any carrier for that matter.

iPhone 3G: Apple vs the World

iPhone 3G: Apple vs the World
