Many thanks to Andrew over at INFORM for calling our attention to his company's video, "The Secret Life of Cell Phones." The video highlights the importance of recycling old cell phones (not to mention other electronics and anything else suitable for recycling). Check it out - it's pretty eye-opening to see what happens to your gadgets after you throw them out, and how recycling them can help other folks out as well as helping to preserve our planet. Old phones can be refurbished and sold on the cheap in less developed countries, or broken down for their reusable metal parts, depending on the particular phone and the condition it's in. Whatever keeps as much of the phone as possible out of a landfill is good by me, and groups like INFORM are trying to get the word out about recycling. More and more carriers are now including free recycling envelopes in the retail packaging of new phone, so the next time you upgrade, take five minutes to package up your old handset and send i

8/11/2008 8:19:13 PMCradle to cradle; close the loop and until it's closed, choose what to put in the garbage- imagine it goes to your backyard- reduce, reuse, recycle. One item at a time; thanks for this information.

3/5/2008 8:07:14 PMI have found that the secret only works when you know more about it. It doesn't give enough information in the movie. Here's a free cd that explains the rest. You can get it at astrologychick-dot-com

2/20/2008 11:16:32 PMI work for a wireless service provider, and we actually offer store/account credit for recycling your old phone. If the phone has no monitory value, we'll still recycle it for them. There is also a great company out there called flipswap that will pay you for your old phone. You can check them out at flipswap(dot)com. By the way, excellent video. It was actually shown at our last quarterly meeting to help us drive home the importance of recycling phones and other electronics. Way to go!!

1/25/2008 12:25:36 PMIt is complex. It is still advisable to get as many uses as possible over the life of a phone. Keep your current phone as long as you can. If you decide to get a new one go check out secret-life(dot)org for recycling information. We all have to keep the pressure up to ensure there are controls put in place that prevent dumping 'e-waste'... Check out the resources page on secret-life (dot) org for deeper information. And pass the site on! Everyone needs to understand this issue.

1/25/2008 2:11:12 AMI save up my electronic equipment, and take it to the collection place, on a scheduled day. I do the same with my hazardous chemicals / paint, and I recycle my daily waste, too. I did hear about the people in 3rd-world countries, that are exposed to all kinds of bad shit, from our "recycled" stuff. Makes you wonder what they hell you should do!
