While I'm definitely not tired of HTC's Hero, I needed to write about a couple of other things real quick before coming back at you with the full specs and PR photos. We can speculate on the carrier and talk about Sense later. This post is about the hardware. Folks looking for this probably want to get straight to the menu, so let's do it; straight dope, no filler. Well, no more verbiage, anyway.

And just in case anybody think's I pulled off a post without doing anything but copying and pasting a press kit, allow me to wildly speculate that the feature which makes the US version of Hero different from that of Europe and Asia, could go beyond color. The US Hero may be the first phone to ship with Donut. I pulled that out of thin air, just so you know.
An official press release, seen here, states that "The HTC Hero will be available to people across Europe in July and in Asia later in the summer. A distinct North American version will be available later in 2009." So what will be so different about the American version of the phone?

About six minutes into my first video from a sit-down with HTC's CIO, Horace Luke, he mentions that the company is working on hashing out the Teflon coating with other colors, as the white model is the sole device currently featuring the material. The only other Hero hue seen in the wild thus far is brown. The HTC 09 centerfold, as I like to call it, showed a pink phone. Check out the vid below for a quick peek at a some other variations.

It seems pretty reasonable to associate the other colors with the distinct nature of the US model, but it's possible that HTC has more in mind. Whether or not this could include a Donut is unknown, but both are expected by the end of the year.

RE: Blackberry replacement device..just without the cellphone!

By jrcrow79 - Jul 3 12:21 PM

Ok, so being a PC Engineer, I am always looking/seeking out the next best device for anything related to cellphones/texting..etc...I ended up googling best texting device one night and stumbled upon www.getpeek.com which has an amazing device for $15-$20/month you can email/txt anyone/anytime/anywhere!!

It's called a Peek Pronto which is the latest version..originally there was a Peek, then came the Peek Classic..the Peek classic is really cheap @ $15-$20 but you would have to upgrade to the latest Peek Pronto software which would cost you about $40..yah not my best idea either so I went to www.costco.com where they have the peak pronto with acessories at no charge for $60 (90 day store return poliy as usual if I'm not happy).  But don't stop there..if you get the device from www.getpeek.com they will refund your money in full...but the monthly subrscription can't go anywhere as far as being credited or refunded (duh) .

So back to the device specs..it is a 2.5 QVGA 240x320 QVGA display..the OS is running Linux soyou know it won't gohaywire on you and the device weighs only 3.8oz.  The device actually runs off of Tmobile's GSM network..another option if you are an international traveler and don't wanna leave yer peek at home alone is a $60 montly subscription to send/receive international texting all your thumbs desire!

Anyways, hope this is a good enough description on the device..ohh..BTW..Kodak originally ame up with this device but lost its finances for it so anIndian company took it over whih you now see on selet store shelves...their customer service is just as warm n nice as tmo cellphone sertvice ;-)

Re: Samsung Eternity Service Menus! (trick)

By ThaCoBRA - Jul 3 7:27 AM

ummm... You can pick any number up to 100 for each color... You can go higher if you change [7] in the menu to a higher number (this will drain more power from the battery, however... and possibly burn out your LEDs faster if you set it too high.)

a.) press the number you want to edit (1-7)

b.) touch the text bar

c.) type in the value (1-100)

d.) click OK

e.) click OK again

simpoe

wheres the coverage on the htc hero?!

By simpoe - Jul 3 7:20 AM

so today i stumbled on an article today that htc hero passed fcc with approved bands of 850/1900 with a detailed picture of the backing and having a "sim" slot. so then i did more research and it turns out that both tmobile and at&t uses those bands but to my knowledge at&t does not use sim cards. We should start doing some research on this cause another highly unlikely reason at&t will not get the phone because it would just be a war within themselves trying to sell the hero and the iphone especially since they also just released the 3gs. but who knows companies nowdays are trying to find every bit of way to make a buck. on the other note it was really funny reading all these comments and posts about if the hero goes to at&t that they will drop iphone and what not or people will switch carriers for sure.

well  reply back with what you guys come up with or think about this.
