Summary: This has been excellent quality, no sound interference or delays. Never a problem whether calling Europe or Asia.

3U Telecom

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5
By: G Vickers on Tuesday, May 30, 2006
From: Reston, VA (United States)
Experience: 4 Months
Pros: Easy to switch, super cheap rates, great customer service. Billing on the second, not the minute!!!

Cons: None that I've come across so far.

Summary: My daughter was headed off to Spain for 4 months and I wanted to be able to call her without breaking the bank. MCI had been charging me $7.95/mo for their International plan and then charging me a per min rate that was only OK. I found PhoneDog.com via google, did the PhoneDog.com search, and picked 3U based on the countries I thought I'd be calling. I did everything online and it was so incredibly easy. Now my domestic and international calls are through 3U on my landline. For my cellphone, I chose to activate Int'l service w/ 3U as well. I spoke to my daughter during the past four months for 10 - 50 min at a time and my bill was amazingly low. I can't stress enough how easy the whole process was.

After a few years, still the best overall

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5
By: Pete H on Tuesday, May 23, 2006
From: Colorado Springs, CO (United States)
Experience: 20 Months
Pros: Great rates keep getting lower! Great service too

Cons: None that we've found

Summary: With a few years of experience, we have found the one second billing makes this plan as cheap or cheaper than any others for in-state and US calling.

Their amazing international rates (14 cents to India??!!) add more value. They've warned us when someone tried to shove us to another LD provider... even more value. Easy online access and direct tax-rate pass through makes it better still. And using our 3U account from calling card and cell phone tops it off.

What more could we ask for? I suppose even _lower_ domestic rates. But we're supremely happy already.

By: Jeremy Lewis on Monday, April 24, 2006
From: Independence, KY (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: Cheaper Phone Bill

Cons: None

Summary: So far so good. I have noticed no difference in the quality of the calls. We do a lot of international calling and the quality there is the same as with AT&T. We just have cheaper phone bills.

3u Telecom

Overall Rating:
4.3 out of 5
By: Bryan Peña on Monday, April 24, 2006
From: Glendora, CA (United States)
Experience: 4 Months
Pros: Good service!

Cons: I have had some people who are calling us long distance not be able to connect.

Summary: By choosing the lowest cost plan with my local provider and getting 3U, my end cost is only $10 more than I was paying for Vonage.

I have had some people who are calling us long distance not be able to connect, but I think it is a side effect of my recent switch from Vonage.

Worry free

Overall Rating:
4 out of 5
By: Leslie Morrow on Wednesday, April 19, 2006
From: St Petersburg, FL (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: Easy sign up process, quick activation, No monthly fee, 1 sec billing, easy to update/change my payment method, email reminders about my bill.

Cons: Does not provide local service, so I could not get a package for local and long distance service.

Summary: I did not think that a product like the Unique long distance package existed. I am very happy with the service because I know if I decide not to use it, then I will not be charged. I was also excited when I discovered that you can call from anywhere (cell, another state) and use the travel card access number and get the same low rate...just like you were at home. That is a feature that will keep me a 3U telecom customer for life! Thanks 3U!

3U Telecom 4.8 (Unique) Long Distance Provider

Overall Rating:
4 out of 5
By: Kathleen Wickett on Thursday, March 09, 2006
From: Gulfport, FL (United States)
Experience: 35 Days
Pros: Their international rates are phenomenal. I'm only paying 4.8 cents to Dublin and to Singapore and about 25 cents to Bahrain. This is important to me since I make many international business calls from my home office.

Cons: The local circuit was out for over 6 hours once so far. So I had no long distance access at all.

Customer Service is only available weekdays from 10-5 PST. Since I'm on the East Coast, when my service was out at 8 am, I had to wait until 1 pm to contact them. Then the lines was busy. Sent an email, response received by 5 pm

Summary: So, I've only been using them for one month, but I love the rates. Will not criticize the long outage yet...unless it continues to recur. Also, don't like the customer service hours.

Seriously? Riots?: NYers line up, wait, and get angry over BlackBerry Storm

    Storm Riots in NYC

What ever happened to try before you buy?  Hordes of CrackBerry addicts in New York City braved sub-freezing temperatures to line up before 6am this morning at Verizon stores in hopes of landing a BlackBerry Storm.  Lots of 'em apparently went home (or to the office) cold and angry, as VZW didn't have enough stock to meet the demand. So much for reading reviews and carefully considering new purchases in this time of economic...

Southeast Asia: is mobile web use surpassing wired access?

SE Asia: mobile vs. wired web

The Norwegian creators of the Opera browsers said today that mobile Internet use seems to be surpassing wired access in much of Southeast Asia. And that in some areas, it's the standard means of access, rather than the alternative. You can check out their monthly State of the Mobile Web report here. Storm: Verdict? Disappointing

I really, really want to like Verizon's new BlackBerry Storm.  I want to love it.  Why?  Well, competition is good, and in the year and a half since the original iPhone launched, no other phone has been able to match the performance of its touchscreen or Web browser.  HTC's Touch Pro and G1, and Samsung's Epix and Eternity have impressed me as of late, but none of these devices offers the fingers-on touchscreen experience of...
