OPEX Value Plus 2.7 User Review![]() Unacceptable customer serviceOverall Rating: By: Annette Chalk on Thursday, October 04, 2007From: Fort Wayne, IN (United States) Experience: 60 Days Pros: To be determined, but signed up due to lowest rates.Cons: Horrible customer serviceSummary: It was easy to sign up, but took me a good month to get service actually activated. Opex told me via phone they were waiting on my local carrier to make the switch, I had to make the call. Now that under a new owner, have not been able to reach anyone, either too long of wait time or disconnected. E-mail was returned and waiting to see if another e-mail sent 3 days ago will be answered or returned. Also pessimistic my switching fee will be reimbursed. 20 out of 36 people found this review helpful
VERY BAD EXPERIENCEOverall Rating: By: Jodi Jodi on Monday, September 17, 2007From: Fall River, WI (United States) Experience: 1 Years Pros: low costCons: Very poor customer service and billing mix up that has cost me much more than the little I save using their service.Summary: There was a problem with their online billing system this month and they ended up charging me over $900.00 for an $80.00 phone bill. I have now spent over 9 hours on the phone or waiting for them to call me back to resolve the problem, but still do not have my money back. The problem originated 4 days ago, and I was told again today that my money would not be returned until tomorrow. In the mean time I have had to have overdraft protection on my checking account to cover my other expenses that were paid while my $900.00 sits in limbo. Through this process I have talked with 4 different people, been disconnected 4 times, and have had to have the same conversation with the same person twice because he did not keep proper notes. And to top things off I am getting daily recorded messages from them saying that my phone bill has not been paid and is over due! If the problem is not resolved tomorrow I will be contacting my lawyer. I highly recommend not using this company no matter how much it may save you. I figure that my total investment (not including the $900.00) is over $350.00 with my time spent, and the interest on my overdraft coverage. That would cover a lot of charges with a different company that knows how to provide good service. 26 out of 38 people found this review helpful
opex hidden chargesOverall Rating: By: Hiram anonymous on Monday, September 17, 2007From: Los Angeles, CA (United States) Experience: 4 Months Pros: instate and state-to-state charges ok. Reimbursed switching chargesCons: hidden charges, switching problemsSummary: Charges a .74 fee each month callilng it a USF (Fed. Universal Service Fund fee), even if you make no calls, which is never mentioned in their ads, which enriches Opex because the feds charge a percentage of your charge, not a fixed fee. Went through all the hoops, including voice confirmation, to switch. Months later found out I had never been switched. Customer service couldn't understand it, the order was placed but never carried out. Elected e-payment, to avoid montly charges. After two months, began getting $2 monthly charge for printed bill anyway. Another call to customer service to fix this (hopefully has). Ordered calling card twice. Never received it. Charges more than the 2.7/min. claimed. Actually .03/ minute for both in and out state. I have some credit coming. Will switch after it is used up. 19 out of 38 people found this review helpful

Opex Value Plus 2.7Overall Rating: By: Pam Bachman on Tuesday, September 04, 2007From: Mishawaka, IN (United States) Experience: 60 Days Pros: Inexpensive, good serviceCons: Did not add my local toll calls when I signed upSummary: I am pleased with this service. I do not use long distance or local toll service very often so I needed an inexpensive but reliable service and I did not want to use AT&T which was my option for local calls. My only problem is that I switched to email bill and still received a paper bil this month. 10 out of 28 people found this review helpful

OPEX Long Distance ServiceOverall Rating: By: LA Wauters on Tuesday, August 14, 2007From: Albuquerque, NM (United States) Experience: 3 Months Pros: Economical and easy to sign-up Web based billingCons: Service itself Customer ServiceSummary: My service never worked. I kept getting the message "Managed Long Distance, calls of this nature cannot be made at this time." Called Customer Service the end of June and it was supposedly fixed in 8-10 hours. Tried making an International call again a few weeks later and still received this recording. Called Customer Service again who had no record of the first call/issue. Provisioning dept. was apparently not working weekends. Service was never functional and each customer service rep made no notes or even valid attempts at fixing the issue promptly. My only choice was to switch carriers for service that I could actually use. 21 out of 38 people found this review helpful
AVOID AVOID AVOIDOverall Rating: By: Mike W on Saturday, August 04, 2007From: Boston, MA (United States) Experience: 2 Years Pros: NothingCons: EverythingSummary: Opex used to be a great company and then they sold it to Total Call International from CA. Customer service is in the tank, billing has new fee's (hidden), on line billing is broken, caller id on calls is missing on instate calls... should I go on ?? 20 out of 33 people found this review helpful
Great plan and price, but the billing process is horribleOverall Rating: By: J Sanders on Monday, July 30, 2007From: Lutherville, MD (United States) Experience: 4 Years Pros: Great plan. Great price. Great customer service reps.Cons: Customer service reps often say they're doing something, and then the same problem crops up the next month. I also save $2.99 by not having them send me a paper copy of my bill, but I never receive the e-mail letting me know my bill is ready.Summary: I've been with OPEX for 4 years through various plans. If you're looking to save money, and you don't have VOIP, this is the best plan. But you're going to spend a bit of time tracking down problems with the billing. I was being overcharged $1 each month for a minimum usage fee, and every month they would credit me back a $1 and say it had been fixed. And every month I had to call back and have them credit me another $1 and "fix it" again. 16 out of 30 people found this review helpful
Deceptive Practices, Sub-Par Customer ServiceOverall Rating: By: Christina McLeod on Tuesday, July 24, 2007From: Southern, MD (United States) Experience: 2 Months Pros: NoneCons: Minimum usage fee Deceptive rate advertising Unknowledgable and unhelpful customer serviceSummary: I have been with OPEX for approximately two months and have had nothing but problems. First, I am being billed a $1.99 paper billing fee when the only way the company bills is via paper. I was told by customer "un"service that they are having issues with their systems and can't sign anyone up for electronic billing at this time and that I would have to pay the fee. Second, every time I call with billing issues, the representatives don't seem to know anything about this company, proper customer service procedures, what actions to take to solve an issue, etc. I'm doubtful all of them even have a working knowledge of the English language. I am in the process of switching to another long distance company due to the deceptive billing practices and the inability of anyone at this company to fix a problem. Rates are ok, but there are other companies that provide the same rates that I'm sure are more reliable and professional. Sign up for OPEX at your own risk! 14 out of 21 people found this review helpful
