Pioneer Telephone

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Terry Richards on Monday, May 12, 2008
From: Pinckney, MI (United States)
Experience: 1 Days
Pros: ?

Cons: it was hard to understand the person who answered our calls; we had to "mediate" between Pioneer and our present phone company

Summary: We actually never got hooked up to Pioneer. First, they told us that the other company (PNG) had a lock on our line, and said that I needed to call PNG. I did so, and PNG claimed that they didn't have a lock on our line. A few days later, PNG left a curious message on our answering machine - "send an LLR" - and of course, not knowing what it was, I called PNG aqain. I discovered what it was, and called Pioneer, who told me that they didn't know what an LLR was, could I call PNG again and ask them to release the line. I actually called PNG one last time. All they could tell me was that Pioneer needed to send an LLR.
After that point, I was very frustrated, and did not pursue the matter further. Our credit card "hold" finally ran out at Pioneer, and we will not seek to strike up a relationship with them.
I wish that we could write a more positive review, but that has been our experience. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to express our dissatisfaction.

Pioneer 2.7 Rate Buster

Overall Rating:
3.7 out of 5
By: Roy McKnight on Friday, May 09, 2008
From: Brookfield, WI (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: No monthly fee or minimum usage, very good per minute rate, provides 1 + long-distance access

Cons: Be aware of the $10 initial charge

Summary: This service provides good value with no monthly fees or minimum usage requirements. It is excellent for those who do not make a lot of long-distance calls. The initial $10 fee is credited to your account to pay for the first few calls you make. Voice Quality is as good as the MCI service we had before. Highly recommend.

Cons: None

Summary: No monthly plan fees. No monthly convenience fees. No fees of any kind. You only pay one low rate for the calls you make, plus appropriate taxes. My monthly land-line long distance has gone from $8 a month to under $1 with Pioneer's 2.7 Rate. No problems with connections or quality, domestic or international.

Pros: Easy to use. If not used there is no monthly charge. The rates are reasonable.

Cons: I don't know of any.

Summary: We don't make very many long distance phone calls and this service seems to suit us just fine. I have made a call to our grandson in Australia and calls to Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia and was well pleased with the quality.

Pioneer 2.7

Overall Rating:
2 out of 5
By: Joanna R. on Wednesday, May 07, 2008
From: Jacksonville, FL (United States)
Experience: 90 Days
Pros: Cheap rates

Cons: Substandard voice quality, fades in and out

Summary: Have had a problem with voice quality fading in and out. Also, I tried to enter the access code for a conference call and the conference call service could not detect the digits entered. No one else on the call had a problem, and I had to use my cellphone to participate in the call.

Pioneer 2.7 Rate Buster Review

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5
By: Robin Welsh on Wednesday, May 07, 2008
From: Alexandria, VA (United States)
Experience: 9 Months
Pros: Low rate. Easy to setup. I receive an email each month that notifies me of my charges.

Cons: Have to go to site to pull up call details.

Summary: The main reason I decided to look for a new carrier was cost. Pioneer offered me a great rate for the calls I make. I usually don't make many, so I was looking for a carrier that would not charge me an arm and a leg for those calls or a monthly flat fee. The whole process was very easy to do online. I would recommend Pioneer to anyone.

Pioneer Long Distance

Overall Rating:
4 out of 5
By: Shannon Brogan on Wednesday, May 07, 2008
From: River Falls, WI (United States)
Experience: 8 Weeks
Pros: Inexpensive, no monthly charge, just what you use

Cons: A slight lag time in connecting and when I move I will probably not be able to keep the service with a small local carrier.

Summary: I have had the service only two months, but I have yet to receive a debit bill, since the initial charge of $10.00 is still not used up the credit applied. I like the convenience of low costs and no long numbers to input with the credit card I was using.

Pros: Simple, inexpensive plan. Great rates to Canada, UK and very competitive to Central America. Easy to use web-site for account management. Unexpected bonus: even cheaper rates when you call another Pioneer customer. We put my mom on the same Pioneer plan and we practically talk for free!

Cons: Now my mom calls all the time!

Seriously, no drawbacks.

Summary: Easy to switch, easy to keep.
