Global Saver, used to call Thailand

Overall Rating:
3.5 out of 5
By: R Oliver on Monday, February 11, 2008
From: unnamed, WI (United States)
Experience: 4 Months
Pros: Everything as promised. No hidden charges, extremely reasonable price. Pay by check option.

Cons: Would be nice if we could pay by setting up electronic one time payments from our checking account.

Summary: We waited for our first bill to see if there where any surprises. But everything was fine. No hidden fees, the price was what we expected. We are very happy with the service. Have not needed to call customer service yet so I can not comment on that.

Total Call Int´l

Overall Rating:
3 out of 5
By: Garrett Prefernottouse on Sunday, January 13, 2008
From: Quincy , CA (United States)
Experience: 4 Months
Pros: It´s cheap! Including overseas rates.

Cons: It took over 2 months to finally get a calling card from them. Each time I called they had a different excuse. In making overseas calls, we´ve gotten the busy signal frequently.

Summary: The fact that it´s cheap probably outweighs the negatives.

Total Call International Review

Overall Rating:
1.8 out of 5
By: Max D on Wednesday, December 05, 2007
From: Flushing, NY (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: Rates are as advertised

Cons: Call connection fails one third of the time.
Rude customer service reps.
Setting up re-occurring billing is chaos.

Summary: The first problem I noticed since I switched, is that I dial a number and NOTHING happens! I get better changes connectining with a phone card.

I also signed up for re-occurring billing, and it failed because they had a very strange expiration date. We fixed that and charged my card for that month. But then, they kept sending me letters even though my credit card had already been used once. In the short time that I have this long distance service provider; I had have to call customer service 3 times. They are laconic, thus not a pleasant experience.

TC1 3.9 Global Saver

Overall Rating:
4.5 out of 5
By: tomatozilla tomatozilla on Friday, November 23, 2007
From: Los Angeles, CA (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: Great rate, no problem changing, no problem with service so far, no unpleasant surprises on bill.

Cons: None we know of yet.

Summary: I've switched our previous three lines many times over the last 10 years and had problems with every switch and with previous companies eventually charging services undisclosed at offering, and terrible customer service in many cases resolving difficulties. We haven't made any international calls nor many long distance calls yet to really evaluate, nor have we had occassion to use customer service, but so far NO PROBLEMS or FUNKY BILLING. Only reason I can't endorse voice quality as excellent is because we haven't made enough calls to be sure it never drops out.

Pros: Good rate

Cons: Horrible customer service and response. Inablitity to resolve billing issues in a timely fashion.

Summary: I was looking forward to switching from AT&t for long distance, but after two months with Total Call and dealing with such inadequacy and language barriers in the customer service department, I am running back to AT&T.

Phone Wars: Why do (some) people hate the iPhone?

Why do people hate the iPhone?

I got this question today via Facebook and thought it warranted some thought ... and all that thought warranted a blog post.  So I ask you, as you read on, what do YOU think?  Why do some people just seem to hate the iPhone (and Apple) so much?  Noah, maybe you can answer this for me: Why is it when people praise the iPhone, they're viewed as either blind fanboys, or on the Cupertino payroll, and when people praise 'any' other...

Krave: VZW to sell Moto ZN4 touchscreen smartphone for $149

    Moto Z54 to VZW

Motorla's MING series of Linux-based, touchscreen smartphones have been pretty popular overseas but never really seen the light of day here in the US.  Sure, you could pick up an unlocked GSM MING via CompUSA or an importer, but without carrier backing most Americans had no idea that MING was a phone and not *just* a dynasty from their history books.
