Mediocre Blackberry

Posted on: October 11th, 2006 by Dave Baugh

The good: Very easy to navigate using scroll wheel/button. Display very bright and clear. Fairly long battery life. Good email function. The bad: Phone dialing difficult to navigate. Phone funtion hard to hear, and weak micropohone portion. Included software incompatible with my calendaring.Summary: Overall I am fairly neutral on the Blackberry. The scroll wheel allows for easy navigation, and the variety of available applications is fantastic. I was especially pleased with the email function. Worked seemlessly even without the benefit of a Blackberry Enterprise server at my work. Simply used the web version of the blackberry client. The phone function on the other hand left something to be desired. Phone book is difficult to navigate and somewhat counterintuitive in the buttons used to dial and/or save a number. I also found the small keys very difficult to use, especially in regards to the shift fuunction. It is also sometimes difficult to reboot the system if the battery dies, even after recharging. It sometimes requires removal and reseating of the battery. Overall again, I am fairly neutral, but would not recommend.

The good: Great keyboardGreat securityOperating system is easy to useClear screen when viewing in all types of lightingFast functions with lots of shortcutsBattery LifeThe bad: Speakerphone and camera missing, but not the end of the world. I have a great digital camera, and hate when other people put me on speakerphone!Summary: The PDA functions offered in a BlackBerry, truely allow for you to have a mobile office. I love having everything right at my fingertips at all times!
