Adriana Lee's profile
About meAdriana Lee, a journalist and admitted gadget freak, has covered everything from business and tech trends to fashion and pop culture. Published in consumer and trade titles, she’s been showing people how to get stuff done for more than 10 years. And she’ll argue with anyone who sees mobile tech as just an accessory. To her, it’s a lifestyle choice. We’re on the cusp of D-day (DROID day), and the Droid PR machine hasn’t let up. This is the recent commercial touting the device. Which one do you like better: This movie preview–style Stealth commercial or that now classic “iDon’t” ad? As a tot watching The Last Starfighter, I thought that the language translation contraption in the movie was way cool. When I was studying abroad in Latin America (and schlogging my way through Spanish), I really could’ve used something like that. Too bad Jibbigo didn’t exist back then. But it does today. The iPhone app costs a whopping $25, but judging from this demo, it looks like money well spent. Jibbigo translates English to... I had a visceral reaction to this video, which might as well be called “chicks ‘n clicks.” (Granted, my reaction is probably different from the male contingent’s in our viewing audience. Yes, the ladies are super sexy. Can we talk about the phone now?) This slick, fashion-forward promo shows off a device that we here in the U.S. can only dream about: The BL40, the fourth handset of LG’s Black Label series. It... T-mobile has unveiled its latest Android offering to the ad-watching masses, via video for the Moto Cliq. Why it chose to use a render instead of the actual handset is a little baffling to me, but otherwise, it’s a decent intro to the handset for the average consumer. (If you’re an existing customer and interested in picking this up, the Cliq’s still available for pre-order. New customers, however, will have to wait until Nov... This is what you get when you stock a wall with 1,000 handsets and orchestrate a symphonic ode to mobile phones. European carrier Vodafone NZ’s grab at viral video is almost too clever for its own good. (Way to highlight the limited audio on cell phones, guys.) Still, I admire its ambition and the sheer brain power required to make this happen. And, given the 100,000+ views, maybe it’s working. But the question is: Would it make you... More videos »Imagine hanging out somewhere, minding your own business, maybe checking email or texts on your iPhone, when suddenly this message pops up on screen. If you have a pristine, fully sanctioned iPhone, you can breath easy. Those with jailbroken phones may want to pay attention to this, though: A Dutch hacker has figured out how to tunnel into jailbroken iPhones, via SSH, and remotely turn on the message, "Your iPhone's been hacked because it's... Mobile Content Today posted an interesting breakdown today. Writer Todd Ogasawara ponders, not whether to get the Moto DROID, but how to get it: At the discount price (with two-year contract), partial discount (for a one-year contract) or full price (no contract at all). I know some of you guys might be wondering the same thing, so here’s a summary of what Mr. Ogasawara came up with:The choices:
$200 price (after a $100 mail-in rebate)... Our pal John Walton has a post up on Droiddog with a video that offers a look at the Samsung Behold2's interface. If you’ve been itching to see the Android phone “Cube”-style, check it out by clicking here. (And say hi to John for us.) Actually, the vid itself came courtesy of David over at TmoNews. In addition to the glimpse of the UI, he also offers a short preview vid of the Behold2, which is on view at the same Droiddog... Take a look at this. What is wrong with this picture? (If it’s not hitting you, take another look. Do you see it?)
That phone better be encased in solid gold and rubies to justify that Buy Now price. More likely, a horrendous (and hilarious) typo was made. Either way, it’s not surprising that there haven’t even been any feeble attempts at bids, much less any takers. Talk about overvaluing your handset.... In case you missed the “R word” in the title, this is strictly rumor category: BoyGenius Report says there are no less than two sources claiming that AT&T and Apple are mulling over the possibility of offering a cheaper, lower-end iPhone to compete with all the Droid hoopla. If the rumor’s to be believed, it might happen in time for Christmas. I know, I know — iPhone: You either love it or hate the bejeebers out of... More articles »Hey there. It's hard to tell you what to get, since everyone's tastes are different. All I can tell you is what my preferences are. I like the slim form factor of the Vu, since it seems more "pocketable." It would stink to have to dig it out a big phone everytime I want to launch some tunes. But I am a sucker for a full hardware QWERTY keyboard. (I'm on an iPhone now, and as much as I love it, I've gotta say that I curse the thing everytime I... I agree with John. I may be an iPhone girl, but I've got enormous respect for Android. I also think the OS will just keep getting better and better. i do think the XpressMusic is a decent enough phone, but in a year or so, you might find yourself feeling stuck with an out-of-date dud and longing for a new handset. At least with the G1, while it's not perfect, you are nearly guaranteed updates and enhancements over time (making it almost seem... According to this post from Noah, the HTC Touch Pro2 should be coming to T-mobile in July.Hope that helps,Adriana First, it looked like it was heading to AT&T, but now Gadgetell say it's hitting T-Mo first this summer. That lines up with Noah's post about the T-Mo road map, which says HTC Touch Pro2 is coming to T-Mobile in July. Hope that helps!Adriana I hear good things about Tweetie, Twittelator and Twittelator Pro, but they aren't all free. Tweetie's 2.99, and there's a free version and paid version of Twittelator (Pro is 4.99). Actually, this would make a good blog post. I'll take a look, and see how they compare mano-a-mano with Twitterfon. Thanks for the great idea, katsman06. Let me know if there's any other iPhone app or accessory you're interested in knowing more about.Adriana Re: Re: To have and Behold(2): Unofficial pics of Sammy’s Tmo Android phone leakedHi. Thanks for filling us in on your call with Tmo. I wrote "expected to be $249.99" because that's basically what the gossip is right now (at least according to TmoNews). Can't be sure, since they haven't announced it yet, so you might be right.
But there's a media event for the Behold2 next week, and PhoneDog will be there, so we'll get the official pricing for you guys, straight from the source. Hopefully, it will be less than this predicted inflated price tag. Re: Re: BillShrink cost of ownership analysis: Pre, MyTouch beat out iPhone 3GS, Moto DroidHey, spkf79: Given that I covered this on the same night that Tmo had a huge outage (and not long after the data troubles), it seemed appropriate to call them out on it. I would've done the same for any carrier plagued by similar issues within a short period. (I was the one who called out AT&T in the article you mentioned.) But I do see your point, and I apologize if it seems like I'm picking on them. Believe it or not, I actually like T-Mobile, generally speaking. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify. Re: Scientists drive vehicle remotely with iPhoneThat is hysterical. LOVE the ending!Re: Re: iPhone + VZW: Will they or won’t they?
