Big shots get Apple products early, that's just how it is. Early
iPhone 3G reviews have been filed with the likes of the Wall Street
Journal, the NY Times, and that rag of rags, USA Today. So what do the
most well known tech writers in the land think of the new Apple cell
phone? And beyond Walt and Dave, what does that guy you've never heard of from USA
Today think?
On par, here's what I gleamed:
- David Pogue is awesome, but he didn't exactly write a review. ... Apple has posted a handy dandy "Where to buy iPhone" guide to make it easier for you to fork over more of your cash to them. Sorry, I'm a little miffed that my MacBook broke again. What I meant to say is that they've got a guide to help you find your nearest Apple and/or AT&T store in case you want to buy an iPhone 3G. Speaking of which, it's been confirmed that the device will go on sale at 8AM this Friday, July 11 - both Apple and AT&T outlets will be opening at... Q. Do you know about any of the features the iPhone 3g will have? Do yout think it will be better then the 1st iPhone, b/c i heard the iphone 3G is a cheaper version and its not better then the first. A lot of people told me the 1st iPhone freezes and isn't that good either. So please help b/c I dont know which phone is better.
A. At this point you can't buy the first version unless you get it used or off ebay or something - Apple has stopped making and selling it, and... Kyle Livingston from San Francisco won Week #4 of the Phonedog Days of Summer Giveaway. He won a brand new Samsung Ace courtesy from our friends at Samsung.
How does it feel to win Kyle...?
“Shock, actually. I never even thought I would win anything. But nice because my old Sprint phone needs to be upgraded and, being a student, funds are hard to come by”
Thank you to Samsung!
Been hankering for a VZW flip phone with a 3.5mm headphone jack, integrated FM transmitter, and cool baby blue finish? Thought so. Your wait is almost over, at least according to those crazy guys at PhoneArena. They're claiming the LG Chocolate 3 will be hitting Verizon Wireless next Monday the 14th for $129 after rebate on two-year contract.Chocolate 3 eschews the slider form factor of its predecessor in favor of a compact flip with 2.2" internal and 1.76" external... An increase in overall economic uncertainty has created pullbacks across all business, but especially in the SMB market. Almost all are reviewing their budgets to figure out what can be trimmed and where in order to continue operating in the black.
Businesses today are often dispersed throughout satellite and remote offices across the country or even around the world. And due to rising fuel and general operation costs the need for an affordable, bread-and-butter communication system to... The Moto Rokr E8 is now available online directly from T-Mobile for $249.99 before a $50 mail-in rebate.
The MOTOROKR E8 uses "ModeShift" technology that allows for a smooth transition from phone to music player to imaging device all with a touch of a button. The E8 also features a touch sensitive scroll wheel / pad with vibration feedback along with a 2.0 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, expandable memory card slot (microSD up to 4GB) and support for a full HTML... Rumor is that the Chocolate 3 will be available July 14th via Verizon.
The LG Chocolate 3 sports a new sleak clamshell design. Key features include media player, stereo Bluetooth, expandable memory card slot, Email, GPS, external music controls and streaming media.

On the one hand, this is a China-only release for now. On the other hand, the MING series has always been one of MOTO's most interesting lines, and there have been rumors lately about a US-bound MING later this year. So I think it's worth a mention: Motorola unleashed the MING A1600 and A1800 along with the MOTO A810 today. Excerpt from the press release:BEIJING, China – 8 July 2008 – Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a global leader in mobile communications, today launched... T-Mobile's been quietly, slowly rolling out their 3G network following its debut in New York City earlier this Spring. When I say quietly, I mean it: While T-Mo currently sells a few 3G (AWS) capable handsets, they're not even marketing them as such in stores or online.
Yesterday, TmoNews posted a "take this with a bucket of salt" rumor regarding a possible nationwide launch of T-Mo's 3G services this October. Beyond the obvious, this bears mentioning for a few reasons:-... Buckle Up ... The touchscreen media phone Battle Royale is set to rage on. BlackBerrySync has posted some shots of the upcoming BlackBerry "Thunder" 9500, including a few looks at its media player and camera interface. Between the slick look of BlackBerry OS 4.7 and the rumors that the 360 x 480 touch display will be covered in glass a la iPhone, it looks like RIM's goin' for the gold with their first-ever touchscreen handheld.
Sorry for the bad Olympic pun there ... I was just... Q. Which device do you like better Noah, the Samsung Glyde or the LG Voyager?
A. Voyager is bigger to carry around but much easier to use. If you want a small, cool phone that you'll use mainly only for calls and texting, Glyde will work and I love how small it is. But if you plan to also use the Web and the VCAST music and video features, you might find Glyde frustrating - I know I did. Check 'em out in person, as I personally think Voyager is really too big to... I walked by the AT&T store in downtown Berkeley this morning and noticed a giant poster advertising the new iPhone 3G as, "Twice as Fast ... Half the Price." Looks like those posters are going to be joined by in store demo units of the new iPhone as soon as tomorrow, July 8th ... but the demos may not be on display for public use until launch day (Friday the 11th).According to a leaked sales memo purportedly obtained by Macrumors: Beginning July 8th you will receive the new iPhone... CNET UK's tech blog, "Crave," posted a hands-on with Motorola's new "Best in the World!" cameraphone, the ZN5. While the Nokia N82 might have something to say about that Best in the World title, Crave seems to really be liking their time with this first by-product of Moto's collaboration with imaging giant Kodak.
While Crave didn't go so far as to actually download and view any of the 5MP photos they took with ZN5 (seems this was a restricted hands-on, and not a full review... ROKR you like a Hurricane. Moto's new ROKR E8 features a morphing keypad, touch sensitive nav wheel, and 2MP camera. It's a T-Mobile exclusive. LG's Dare for Verizon might well be the best camera phone currently available through a US carrier. And oh yeah, it's got a full touchscreen and 3.5mm headphone jack. Dare is hot. The PhoneDog Days of Summer just got hotter thanks to our friends over at LG. Word is a VX-10000 Voyager is on its way to the PhoneDog offices and will soon be added to our summer-long giveaway. Can't beat that, huh? Voyager may be a few months old now, but it's still Verizon Wireless' flagship VCAST messaging phone, with its external touchscreen, internal QWERTY pad, full HTML browser and support for VCAST Mobile TV.
Keep your eye out for this one, as it's sure to attract... MarketingWeek has an article dated June 25 claiming that Sony is working on a Playstation-branded mobile phone. This isn't news, or isn't new news anyway, but beyond the strange use of the word "mooting" in the first sentence, the article is notable for claiming that the new device won't be a Sony Ericsson phone, but rather will bear only the Sony moniker.
The launch of the SE F305 gaming phone drew a few, "Hmm ... I thought a PSP phone was coming," comments from the media, but it... A new version of Google Talk is now available for the iPhone and iPod Touch browsers to let users not only communicate via Gmail but also keep in touch with quick bits via Talk.
Users need to use Safari on iPhone to get to Google Talk. When you navigate away from the page on your web browser, status is set to unavailable, and the session restarts when you return. So, it’s not as integrated as a downloadable app, but it’ll do for a quick fix.
You can select from a list of the people you... The Google Maps for mobile team announced that you can now speak your query instead of typing it on a certain BlackBerry devices (Pearl 8110, 8120, and 8130, US only). Using the same speech recognition engine as GOOG-411, the free directory assistance service, Voice Search for Google Maps is great in situations when you can text…like while driving in California as of this week.
