operating system. First was an article in the latest issue of Wired
(my subscription to which I think I'm going to let run out). Second,
third, and fourth were a handful of articles online stemming from this
Wall Street Journal post that got some folks' knickers in a collective
twist.The Wired article actually
wasn't a bad read, as it told the backstory of... Phone Magazine by way of Android Community has posted video and a ton of pictures of the latest build of Google's Android mobile phone OS as demoed at the Google I/O conference today in San Francisco. Thanks to the magic of YouTube, you don't even have to click away to watch the first vid - check it out after the jump. One quick note before the vid. Engadget Mobile's Joshua Topolsky claims the device in the demo video is, in fact, the... Check out the photo below that surfaced in the forum over on mobile-review. On the top you've got four of HTC's current smartphones. On the bottom you've got one known HTC device (second from left) sandwiched by a few unknowns. It may be that all three of the unknown handsets in the bottom row are actually the same phone, just in slightly different orientations, or it could be that these are three different mystery phones just... With HTC planning a big media event for May 6th and Summer just around the corner after that, you'd have to think we'll being seeing the first Android phone before too long, right? For those who can't wait here's a video clip to tide you over: Boy Genius Report found (via WM Experts) this semi-watchable video of Android running on an HTC TyTN II smartphone.
What makes this extra-interesting is that the android install isn't replacing... AOL recently announced they want to throw their hat in the mix by getting into the open source mobile arena with the rest of the big boys. AOL plans on having the platform ready for developers to start tinkering with new apps by this summer. The platform is an XML-based markup language, a mobile device and an application server. Developers will be able to monetize their applications through a number of different advertising methods; clickable... Now that the rest of the world is gearing up for WiMAX, LTE, and other 4G solutions, good ol' T-Mobile is ready to roll out their long awaited 3G network here in the USA. CNET's Kent German reported that he tracked down T-Mobile CEO Hamid Akhavan in Barcelona this week and asked him when the magic switch will finally be flipped. Akhavan "didn't give an exact date but he did promise it would happen by this summer," wrote German.... CrunchGear picked up on a Marketing Week story pointing towards a possible Google-Dell joint announcement at 3GSM in Barcelona next month. I blogged last month about a possible Dell smartphone being in the works, and Google has of course announced their Android mobile operating system, so this alleged partnership is worth keeping an eye out for, at the least.
Dell could, of course, simply be readying an Android-powered device that's... Google's Software Development Kit for Anrdoid - their Linux-based phone operating system - has been in developers' hands for more than a month now. So what's the word on the street? According to Ars Technica's Ryan Paul, it's not all that great. Apparently, developers are pretty hamstrung not only by bugs - which is to be expected - but by the lack of a QA system good enough to aid bug-tracking and other critical elements of... Japanese cellular operator Willcom has successfully demonstrated the Google-backed Android mobile OS running on a reference board (a circuit board mimicking handset functionality). Willcom's demo shows Android's multi-tasking functionality by receiving a call while browsing Google Maps, and gives hungry geeks just a bit more to drool over while pondering the future impact of Google's Open Handset Alliance and the Android platform.

Think you may be talking out out of your hat. Everything points to the contrary. Hey Mike did you read the NY times article? It clearly states Googles main focus will be initially the OS and not the GPhone.
