The challenge has begun. For the past few years, I've used Android and Windows Phone. Now I'll be switching to BlackBerry OS with the BlackBerry Torch 9810 from T-Mobile. Why did I pick BlackBerry and why did I go with the Torch 9810? Well, while I have experience with BlackBerry OS because of my job, I've never used a BlackBerry for an extended period of time as my personal device. I figured now was as good a time as any to put BlackBerry to the challenge and see if it can compete in today's market. The Torch fits me because I need a large(ish) display and it's gotta be a touchscreen. Along with the larger display, the Torch still packs the famous BlackBerry physical keyboard. It's an all-around BlackBerry device that suits my tastes.

I'll be using the Torch 9810 for 30 days, starting today, and I'm excited. Regardless of all the bad press RIM has been getting lately, I've always felt that the company still had a shot. Not only that, but the smartphone market needs BlackBerry. Not everyone wants or likes iOS and Android, and Windows Phone hasn't gained much recognition. There's still a chance for BlackBerry. The question is, Can these latest BlackBerrys compete? We'll find out in this challenge.

In this video, I give you some insight into what kind of user I am and what I use my phone for the most. When I think about it, I'm really the perfect candidate for a BlackBerry challenge because I mostly use my phone for e-mail, messaging, and reading news. I also give my first impressions of the OS and the phone after using it for a day. Check out the video and keep it on PhoneDog to follow my experience with switching to BlackBerry for 30 days!

Jose Angel Santiago I wouldnt trade my galaxy s2 epic 4g touch for a blackberry....nooooooooo waaaaaaaaaay!!!!
Amanda GamesOnly I'd give up my phone for a iPhone.. Blackberry should be called Crapberry cuz well it's crap
Edward Gonse To be honest I would rather use a Windows phone before a Blackberry. I owned a BB a while ago and I felt its a very stable OS. It was just so plain and boring to use. I admit that android may not run as smooth as BB OS or even IOS but I'll trade in some stability issues and not as great battery life for fun factor and customization any day. GO ANDROID!!! You smecksy little green robot you.
Anonymous Look, I have experience with all the systems except WebOS. You BB haters really need to give BB OS 7 a try before you slam it. My friend has an Evo and wishes he had my battery life, which is ironic considering the newer BBs have bad battery life compared to older models. My iphone friend couldn't believe that my torch was faster (it is) and that my call quality iand signal strength is so much better (again,it is). BB isn't for everyone, but it isn't as bad as you people think it is.
Susan Phillips Well, I kinda had to try an Atrix 2 instead of Samsung At&t, I love it, and am not changing for a while. Some of these newer phones will still be in use even when new ones are coming. They are just that nice.
Konner Shea I feel bad for you
Josh Alvarez You're so lucky I want that phone can you put that blackberry torch in the one pawed bandit game because I want to be the first one to sign up
Zulfan Efendi You should review Monza instead 9810. It's the latest torch device.
Mike Richards I switched from storm 2 to the iPhone, I'm very upset with battery life. Could use my blackberry all day with wifi on and still have hours on it left. Apple needs to improve this one big time !
Magaly Ramirez Yess! Blackberry is the best!
Mathew Vasquez Fuck to the NO!
Howie Eastin Hello no, and definitely not for a blackberry lol
Justin Cartier Why this challenge ? BB is a dead O.S. You might as well do a challenge with a palm pre plus, or an HP Veer. At least you can do more than just email with web os. But Android its really where it's at.
Trever Pitts I love when people say it sucks n u say did u use a bberry they say no it just sucks its like me saying windows phone suck an I never used one. So people let her do her thing
Trever Pitts I have blackbeery it never crashes or any thing it runs well
Kendrick Crisostomo oh gawd....good luck!
Ryan DeClue I got to use the Torch on Sprint for a few days. Wonderful, polished device
Anonymous Like I said, you haters never used BB OS 7. It isn't like any previous BB OS (OS 6 is good, too). and to answer Cory's question. They are high because they are well built and have security features others would do well to emulate.
Jeff Hammond Blackberries are great. Well in 2007 they were ...
Orlando Maravilla How many people work at phonedog?
Paul Davis Ouch.. there has to be something else out there than that, try the pantech link or samsung blackjack II.
Jorge Hugo Galindo So, I wonder how much PhoneDog paid Sydney to use a blackberry.
Larry Hanks switch *to* a blackberry? not bloody likely, that's more of a thing you switch *from*
Timothy Parry Jr. RIM/Blackberry is a dying breed, so no, I have had blackberry phones and the battery was pathetic. iPhone all the way
Cory Wilson Why are the prices so high on bb phones
Cheo Cardona Good luck with your challenge and yes I do think your the good or fair candidate for a blackberry. Don't be ashamed if you switch back to another OS.
Frank Porter I could switch from my current phone only if I were being paid to. Otherwise no. I have zero interest in selling off or trading in my phone for a blackberry.
Dennis Heggenstaller I bet after a days use, you will regret going with that one...lol
Joe Zazueta Not to a black berry hellz no
Zach Cline Blackberry sucks
Alexandria Pryor I would only give up my current android phone for a newer android phone.
Teresa Rogerson Good luck BlackBerry sucks. Had 1 worst phone ever.
Engin Uzunoglu Real challenge :(
Facebook user Since we buy used cell phones, we try a lot. I still can't give up the BB keyboard but ditched my Torch for the new Bold 9900. If you want a BB for the keyboard you will find it's a bit too small on the Torch. It's great on the 9900 and the internet experience is much better on the 9900 with the new OS and 4G.
Marti Ruiz dios te bendiga con eso
Anonymous Have any of you BB haters even tried BB OS 7? They are fast and functional and their email and security are second to no one. But you are all right about the Apps. There isn't a lot compared to Android and ios. But man, it seemed like every free app on Android had tons of ads, which got to be very annoying. Android is the best looking. Ios is the easiest to use. But if you need to get things done and security is a priority, get a Blackberry.
Norman Chan love 'Sydney'where my boy noah?
Ben Kramer Only thing I miss about my old BB curve 8330 I think is the physical keyboard and the battery life. The on screen keyboard of the galaxy nexus is not too bad though but the battery life isnt too great.
Linda Sotelo I WOULD... I currently own a retarded LG Rumor touch.. UGH!!! I recently bought a blackberry 9670.. It a whole better. I heard that blackberry web sucks nuts.. BUT I BET ITS A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN WHAT I HAVE.. Including the blackberry torch..
Ryan Gardner Absolutely not. My Epic 4G Touch destroys any Blackberry.
Christopher Ferrell Dbe I went from curve to torch to iPhone and I'm never touching those shitberries again
Jonathan Mallett Considering I have a (close to) 2 year old desire yes :P but not to a blackberry hehe.
Anonymous I was using an Android and went back to my Torch so that should say something.
Daniel Schmitt Ya there is just so much more that the other os's do that blackberry cant so its hats for anyone to go back once u switch, unless u like a phone with good functions but limited customization but pretty east to use. U decide.
Charles D. Comier Yea . The new Sony's are looking pretty amazing . Sadly, I'm mot eligible for an early upgrade until October .
William Young I have one now its A curve 8350 and I hate it to death the app store haS nonethIng worth and about everything in there YoU have to pay foR. I'm on it now because if you hold tHe key down just a litttle to long it makes. It a capatial and it can't be turn off but it a week I'm geting the samSung note :)
Harshit Gupta hell no black berry sux!!!!! cant leave android
Cary Mompoint Jr Seriously G/L! I had a BB Bold 9900 for 3 months and ended up selling it, and using the money to get my Galaxy Nexus for T-Mo! As beautiful as the 9900 was, it just could not replace my Android phone!
Marti Ruiz a blackberry? no thanks
Jeremy Stewart I tried the bold 9930 for a week then I couldn't take it another minute longer..... Had to go back to ios
John Zanatta I could switch from my current phone but not to a BB.
Arturo Cifuentes No way in hell I went from blackberry to android I will will never switch to blackberry again maybe another OS but not blackberry and I said maybe
