AT&T and Pantech are taking "mid-range" to a whole new level with the Pantech Burst.  Available on January 22nd for $49.99, the Burst is a 4G LTE smartphone that packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, a front-facing camera, 1,650 mAh battery, and Android 2.3.5 with Pantech's UI.

For the price, you can't beat the features, but it goes up against some other well-spec'd mid-range phones like the HTC Radar 4G and Nokia Lumia 710.  Is it the must-have device?  Part 1 of 2.

Jared Augerot I'm sorry, I have a pantech crux, and it ruined my thoughts on pantech. It is TERRIBLE. I could list a hundred things wrong with it. but that would be a waste of my time. this "Burst" phone may be better, but I really don't care.
Josh Lazenby Its made, priced, and marketed as mid range. That is why its midrange. They also haven't said what chipset the processor is. Even if its the 1.2ghz dual core... if its built off an ARM 11 architecture its obviously going to be "midrange". It does, at least look, to have high end specs, but that's not what it's intended to sell as obviously. I also think the build quality, materials, and other specs need to be considered when they are available.
Jose Angel Santiago Dual core 1.2 ghz super amoled for 50.00? Not bad at all but its a pantech!!!
Breanna Cherry Cherry Burress its an affordable high end
Demeko Thomas Ummmmmm no its low highend to be exact the best mid rang is ether the infuse of evo design get ur fax strait
Jose Angel Santiago Its a pantech im surprised its a range at all lol.
??? I would say this is a bit higher than Mid-Range phones, not just mid-range. But I have to admit though, this is a good handset.
Dounutz Sesar Super display ??? Isnt that samsungs screens??? well it looks alright
Danny Nease I consider it a mid-range phone because it starts out priced low, is not a well known brand, and is just now introducing specs thy have been out for several months now. Main thing is brand.
Sean Watson what if they took a crappy phone and made it 299 to upgrade, does that change it to a high end device? that logic makes no sense...
Sean Watson oh is it allan? so if they took the htc rezound and said OH, it's now 20 bucks at upgrade time, that would change it to a midrange device? REALLY??
Christopher Manic Johnson It's price point, based in materials and chips inside the device. Number of cores really have nothing to do with it....it kinda never did.
Joel Rivera Huh? Wth is happening.
Allan De León Morales Its because of the price not the cores idiots.... thats the reason is a midrange device
Kealan Mcelhiney Zach cline your a fucking dumb ass nuff said
Sean Watson ya i was gonna say, when did dual core become mid range? My Thunderbolt is a single core, and I still feel like it's a high end phone.... I LOVE it...
Zach Cline It's not high range idiot
Kevin Loughrey This is high range fools!
Richard Ameen Dual core is midrange?
Myles J. Patterson if dual cores are mid range now then God help us all
Daniel Kallini Midrange? Those specs are high end
Robert Centennial Why is it mid ranged?
