Updated Voice Over IP section

As the leading telecom comparison website, we found it was important to update our VoIP section to give consumers a more descriptive analysis of the service. The updates to the section include an explanation on how VoIP works, pricing and plan descriptions for the most popular providers, and user reviews.

It's hard to turn on the television, open a magazine or even surf the web without seeing an advertisement from a VoIP provider.  To help potential buyers of the product decide if the service is right for them, we break down numerous advantages and disadvantages of VoIP.  VoIP is not the right home telephone service for all consumers, but there are some out there who could benefit.

Advantages: 

• Substantial savings compared to traditional phone service
• Regular local phone service is not need for VoIP
• Move anywhere in the World and keep your same U.S. phone number

• Unique phone features that are not offered by traditional phone providers
• Video conferencing is offered by several providers with select plans

Disadvantages:

• Depending on your internet connection, voice calling may not be as clear as traditional phone service
• The loss of phone service if you experience power outages or internet service interruptions
• A high speed internet connection is needed (DSL, Cable Modem, T1, etc)
