Apple CEO Tim Cook wasn't quite ready to talk iPad sales numbers during the company's conference call this morning, but the Cupertino firm is finally ready to offer some insight into how well its new tablet sold over launch weekend. Apple just announced that it sold three million new iPads since the device launched on Friday, March 16th. Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, called it "the strongest iPad launch yet."
During Apple's aforementioned conference call earlier today, Tim Cook said that the iPad had had a "record weekend," and it looks like he wasn't kidding. To compare, it took the original iPad nearly two months to make it to two million units sold. Apple adds that the new iPad will be making its way to 24 more countries this Friday, so I'm sure the company is expecting that three million figure to get a nice bump this coming weekend. As usual, we've got the full press release ready and waiting for you down below. How many of you contributed to the three million iPads sold over the weekend?
