Heads up, U.S. Cellular customers, because you've got a pair of new Motorola Android devices headed your way. The first handset is the Motorola Electrify 2, which is available online starting today and will be hitting U.S. Cellular stores on August 2. The follow-up to the Photon-esque Electrify, the new Electrify 2 packs a 4.3-inch qHD (540x960) ColorBoost display, 8-megapixel rear camera, VGA front-facing shooter and a body featuring Kevlar and splashguard protection. Buried inside that 8.4mm body is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and a 1,780mAh battery. The Electrify 2 also includes Motorola's SmartActions software and Android 4.0. U.S. Cellular's site says that pricing for the Electrify 2 can vary by location, but for me it's showing up at $179.99 with a two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate.
The second new U.S. Cellular-bound smartphone is the Motorola Defy XT. This device features a 3.7-inch display and a VGA camera on its front, as well as a 5-megapixel camera on its backside. Also included is a 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 1GB storage, 1,650mAh battery and Android 2.3. The body of the Defy XT itself is billed as being both water-resistant and dust-proof. Expect the Defy XT to be available from U.S. Cellular both online and in stores on August 3 for an undisclosed price.
While the Defy XT may not be quite as high-end as its new U.S. Cellular brother, it could be a good option for folks that like to get a little rough with their smartphones, especially if its price is right. Meanwhile, the Electrify 2 appears to be a suitable replacement to the aging Electrify. There's no kickstand on this new model, but in exchange the Electrify 2 has a slimmed down body and comes with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. So, any of you U.S. Cellular folk interested? If you'd like to read up on this new pair of phones further, the full release is below.
