The Motorola DROID Turbo has been leaking out quite a bit over the past couple of weeks, but today we’re getting our first official peek at the next entry in Verizon’s DROID family.
Verizon’s official @DroidLanding Twitter account just shared the image you see above, which shows a Motorola, Verizon and DROID-branded smartphone with a large camera housing and red backside. There was no caption included with the image, but the device looks fairly similar to the DROID Turbo backside that leaked out in late September.
This DROID Turbo looks a bit like a mix between Verizon’s previous DROID phones and the new Motorola Moto X, sporting the Kevlar-clad backside of previous DROID models and adding in Motorola’s well-known dimple and round camera housing. The device is also rumored to feature a 5.2-inch QHD display, 21-megapixel rear camera, 4G LTE, a 3900mAh battery and support for Motorola’s Turbo Charger.
Neither Motorola nor Verizon have made any hints as to when we might see the DROID Turbo officially unveiled, but reports have suggested that the phone could be announced this month. Until then, we’ve got leaks like this one and the recent Turbo user guide to give us a pretty good idea of what the new DROID will be all about.
So what do you think? Is this new Motorola DROID Turbo piquing your interest?
UPDATE: And the @DroidLanding tweet that this image is from has been deleted, suggesting that maybe it wasn’t actually supposed to go up today.
