Spring is adding Monthly Rolling Data to its prepaid plans. The feature will be available on all three prepaid offerings, which include unlimited talk and text as well as 1GB for $35 per month, 3GB for $45 per month, or 6GB for $55 per month. With Sprint Prepaid’s Rolling Data, customers can keep up to 30GB of data with no expiration date. To compare, AT&T’s rollover data lets customers carry data for one month, while T-Mobile lets its users keep data for 12 months.
Sprint Prepaid’s Rolling Data is available at Best Buy starting today, June 2. Sprint notes that if you’re a prepaid customer that activated your service at Best Buy before May 31, you won’t automatically gain Rolling Data. To get the feature, you’ll need to actively migrate to the new plan.
The increase in smartphone adoption, the death of unlimited data plans, and a decrease in phone calls have all contributed to consumer demands for rollover data. It’s nice to see the feature finally rolling out among the major U.S. carriers, and with a 30GB limit and no expiration, Sprint’s Rolling Data looks like a nice addition for prepaid consumers.
Sprint today also announced another Best Buy-exclusive feature for its prepaid folk. After making nine on-time payments, Sprint Prepaid customers can bring their device into a Best Buy and be pre-qualified to sign up for a Sprint postpaid smartphone lease.
