Samsung has sold one million Z1 smartphones to date, with availability in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. At launch, the phone cost INR 5,700 ($89 USD).
The Samsung Z1 is definitely an entry-level phone, offering a 4-inch 800x480 display, 3.1-megapixel camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of storage, 768MB of RAM, and a 1500mAh battery. The goal with the Z1 isn’t to blow our hair back with raw performance, though. Instead, Samsung wants to use the Z1 to attack the affordable smartphone market and use it to build up a user base for Tizen.
Today’s report also suggests that Samsung’s got more Tizen phones on the way. A source tells Reuters that Samsung is planning to launch “several” Tizen phones with differing price points later this year. Samsung declined to comment on the rumor.
