Snapdragon Smart Protect is a new anti-malware feature that’ll alert you if an application that you’re about to install could be malicious. The software offers machine learning for accurate detection of threats so that it can alert you before signature updates for other anti-malware apps. When combined with other anti-malware solutions, Qualcomm says that Smart Protect will offer improved privacy and security.
The way Snapdragon Smart Protect works is that it will give you a notification when it thinks that the software you’re about to run is malware. It’ll give reasons why it thinks this way and then give you buttons to easily uninstall the app or add it to a trusted apps list.
Qualcomm says that it’s working with device makers and mobile security companies like Avast, AVG, and Lookout in order to make Snapdragon Smart Protect available within anti-malware apps.
Snapdragon Smart Protect will launch on consumer devices in 2016 alongside the Snapdragon 820. If you’re concerned about how the feature might impact performance, Qualcomm says that Snapdragon Smart Protect has a “minimal impact on device performance [and] battery life.”
