The product pages for Amazon’s Fire phone — both the AT&T and unlocked models — say that the device is “Currently unavailable” and that Amazon doesn’t know when or if it’ll be restocked. The retailer told Geekwire that it sold out of its inventory of Fire phones at the end of August.
The Amazon Fire phone has had a bit of a rough go ever since its debut in June 2014. While the device offered a smallish size and decent specs, it was priced to compete with flagship phones from Apple and Samsung without any killer features to make folks want Amazon’s device instead of an iPhone or Galaxy phone. And while the Fire phone had gotten pretty cheap in recent months, the rise of affordable flagship phones like the OnePlus One and Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 have made it difficult for Amazon’s device to live on as a cheap smartphone option.
The good news is that Amazon appears to still be supporting the Fire phone for folks that already bought one. It recently updated the device to Android 4.4, and it’s now working on an Android Lollipop-based Fire OS 5 update.
