As expected, the Galaxy View is an Android tablet with an 18.4-inch 1920x1080 display, making it one of the largest Android-powered slates around. Samsung says that huge screen is “optimized for media consumption” with software that includes a “video-centric interface.” The Galaxy View also boasts stereo speakers and a stand to prop the device up while you’re using it.
The Galaxy View’s feature set also includes a 1.6GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 5700mAh battery that Samsung says will last for 8 hours of video playback. There’s 32/64GB of internal storage and a microSD slot, too, as well as a 2.1-megapixel front camera and Android 5.1 Lollipop. And just in case you’re wondering exactly how huge this device with an 18.4-inch screen is, Samsung says that the Galaxy View measures 451.8 x 275.8 x 11.9mm.
One other detail that’s worth noting is that Samsung has built a handle into the back of the Galaxy View. That ought to help you move the Galaxy View around, but I’m guessing that even with the handle, you’re probably not going to want to carry this thing around outside of the house much.
With its ginormous 18.4-inch screen, the Galaxy View could be useful as a secondary screen that you can watch content on while someone else is watching TV, or as a device that can act like a small TV anywhere in your house. You could also use it as a recipe viewer in the kitchen. And while it might be kind of awkward to use outside of the house, you could even use the Galaxy View as a small TV or mobile workstation outside of the house, so long as you’re not afraid of folks doing a double take at the sight of your big tablet.
