Remember Benson Leung, the Google employee that is waging a war on bad USB Type-C cables? He’s still reviewing cables, and now he’s cast his verdict on OnePlus’s USB Type-C cable and adapter.
Leung urges us all to avoid both OnePlus USB Type-C accessories, saying that the products are out of spec. The USB Type-C cable itself uses a 3A identifier resistor rather than the “Default USB Power” one, Leung says, explaining that that could result in damage to your charger or USB port if you use the cable with the Chromebook Pixel, Nexus 6P, or Nexus 5X.
At a price of $5.49 for a reversible cable with a flat, tangle-free design, the OnePlus USB Type-C cable is an attractive option for folks that want to grab a spare cable or two for their USB Type-C device. Unfortunately, it might be a good idea to skip OnePlus’s cable and pick up a different Type-C cable in order to keep your device safe. The good news is that Leung has an extensive list of USB Type-C cable reviews on Amazon, and there are several highly-rated cables to choose from.
