Google is planning to release a new 7-inch tablet before the end of 2016, says prominent leaker Evan Blass. The tablet will reportedly be built by Huawei and come equipped with 4GB of RAM.
No other details of the device are known, including its other specs or what its final name might be. Google is reportedly planning to hold an event on October 4, so perhaps we’ll get to officially meet this Huawei-made tablet along with the new Pixel phones, Daydream VR headset, and 4K Chromecast.
The two Nexus 7 tablets, built by ASUS, were affordable and portable. The Nexus 9, Nexus 10, and Pixel C don’t seem to have achieved the same level of adoration, but this new 7-inch tablet from Google and Huawei could do well. Its 7-inch screen would let it be more portable than past Nexus and Pixel tablets, and it’d also be small enough to work alright with apps that aren’t optimized for tablets. Plus, Huawei has been churning out respectable hardware lately, like the Nexus 6P.
